Have you held down the power button for a few seconds?

So does Lair kind of.

The Gametrailers video review for Lair is up. They gave it a 6.0 overall. One scene in that video showed some absolutely horrendous clipping issues.

Tried both of these. There's just no response at all. It just keeps blinking. It's been well-ventilated for 2 days now, so I'm pretty positive its not overheated =/. I wish the button would have been more tactile, I can't even tell if I'm pushing it correctly, if at all. Tried using different outlets as well.

Amazon's great with returns. Let them know and have them send you another.

...now you have me nervous about the unit I just got in the mail today from Amazon, though.

BTW : I don't know if this is just me or everyone who bought this from Amazon, but I'm finding that after buying the PS3, all BR discs and HD-DVDs are getting me a 10% discount at Amazon (even the freebies saved me $7 on my purchase). I know they had that promotion last year and ended it on New Year's Eve. I'm wondering if it's a glitch or not; but just to be safe I'm preordering several high-def discs for the rest of the year.

I got the latest Edge mag a few days back but only got round to it today. So the latest Edge reviews are in and there's a couple of PS3 heavy hitters reviewed:

Heavenly Sword - 6/10
Warhawk - 8/10
Stuntman: Ignition (multiplatform) - 6/10

For anyone wondering, Edge usually marks pretty hard, tougher than EGM usually I would say. So need to say, they enjoyed Warhawk a hell of a lot. Also, the UK downloadable pricing is not too offensive (20 pounds download, 40 pounds retail).

Can someone tell me if Rub-a-Dub is a good predictor of how the motion-sensing controls work? I thought they were pretty rubbish but I'm not ready to write them off: it might just be that Rub-a-Dub is a bad game.

Are PS2 memory cards compatible with PS3s? I have a couple 8mb Sony ones, and it seems Gamestop will give you $7 in trade-in value for each. Seemed like a lot (for Gamestop, considering they'll give you about $2 for great PS2 games) and thought maybe it was because they could be used w/a PS3.

They can be if you get the adapter for them. Costs $15 I think and lets you transfer saves to and from the memory card. You can't load games off of them though. You have to copy them to the PS3 HDD.

Sony is a wikipedia troll

Last month, the Vatican and CIA made it into the headlines when the Wikipedia Scanner revealed that computers from these two organizations were used to edit certain entries in the online encyclopedia. Now, Sony has joined the infamous list with a pathetic attempt to trash Halo 3. The Wikipedia Scanner has revealed that a computer with the ip address 217.18.23.2 edited the entry of Halo 3 back in April, adding the following line:

Halo 3, the third game in the best-selling Xbox game franchise Halo, is a highly anticipated first-person shooter video game under development by Bungie Studios for the Xbox 360 and is expected to "set a new high water mark" for next-generation games, although it wont look any better than Halo 2.

A query on the IP address shows it belongs to the scee.com domain name, which is the official site for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

Oh Sony, what a shame!
Wow. Sony has done some stupid shit before, that that is just pathetic.

I think it's a combination of both. The controls are pretty weak (IMO) and Rub-a-Dub is a crappy game. I've been pretty disappointed with the controls in other games, such as flOw. The motion sensing was average in Motorstorm.

I have yet to encounter a game with motion control capability where the motion controls were actually effective. In fact, in almost every instance, the motion controls detracted from the experience instead of enhancing it.

If it wasn't for flOw, I'd agree. I do think the motion sensing in that game works beautifully and actually got me excited about the motion sensing capabilities of the Sixaxis. Sadly, nothing since then has lived up to that promise.

Noob question. How do I update a game? I've read there is an update for Lair but for the life of me can't figure out how to find it.

As I understand it, usually an update will be made available on PSN. Are you sure there's an actual update for Lair? I remember reading some rumor about the latest PS3 update is supposed to enhance the Sixaxis controls...not sure if there's any truth to it.

Also, is anybody else seriously obsessed with Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix? Best $10 I spent in a while...

That must be what I read about. I did update the FW, so I guess I'm good. Can't tell a difference in the controls.

Did anyone see this? Lair 101: How to Play the Game Guide sent out to reviewers that gave it a poor score... so everyone.

Hysterical.

I just got to the Hoth level in Lair. Wow. They don't have an original idea in 'em do they?

The Lair Reviewer's Guide

"Lair doesn't suck. The reviewers do."

IGN says the guide is 21 pages long. 21 pages on how to properly review the game. I wish it was publicly available. I would like to read it... just for a good laugh.

First, Factor 5 says games need more sex, and now this. No wonder Factor 5 left Nintendo and went to Sony. Factor 5 and Sony are a good match for coming up with completely stupid shit.

Instead of spending money on that stupid guide, they should have worked on a patch to let you play without motion controls. I've no interest in this game anymore...

It sounds like it's an expanded instruction manual, not literally a "here's what score you should give our game" reviewers guide. I'm doubting there is much more humor to it past the idea of them even sending it out as damage control.
