The only two games on that EGM list that I wanted to play were Lair and Strikers and I'll still probably pick both up. I really liked the Star Wars Gamecube games and I'm a big fan of soccer games too. EGM reviews don't usually match up with my opinions very well.

I always worried that Lair would turn out the same, ie amazingly beautiful graphics but dull as hell gameplay. Looks like with that EGM score, I was right. I am surprised it scored that low though since the Rogue Squadron games scored in the 7 to 8 range. I guess it is because Lair doesn't have the Star Wars license to fall back on. |
That is too bad about Lair. I was really looking forward to it. I wait to see some other reviews, but this has somewhat killed my buzz for the game.

Anyone know of a decent guide of hooking up a PC to a PS3 for streaming media?
|
Check the PS3 as a Blu-ray player thread on AVS. That's how I figured it out. You do need WMP11 or better though.

Not sure if this is the right place, but i plan on buying a PS3 either this week or next week, is there any good bundles(extra game/controller) out there (in stores only, no online)? and a side question how many of you recommend to get the extended warranty!
What i know so far PS3 60GB - $499.99 5 Free Movies By Mail http://www.bluraysavings.com/ |
Nah, not at the moment. you missed the boat by a week... there were two deals a week ago, Amazon got the PS3 60gb for $499.99 with free remote and a BD (Momento or RE:A). The other deal is from CC, instead of movie and remote, you get another controller ($40 value). Exteneded warranty is not needed, save the extra cash for games or BDs.

i just learned that the PS3 can rip music cds... sweet to know, but the thing is, i probably never gonna use that feature...
|
i just brought a HD camcorder, HDR SR5 (Sony). Man, that's a sweet toy for the PS3 (not exactly, but the PS3 make it more worthwhile)... The video quality is unbelievable!

But considering that the PS3 can play my playlists straight from my computer, I don't see any need to store music on the PS3 itself. |

PlayStation 3 to get DVR functions in early 2008 Matt Martin 09:33 (BST) 01/08/2007 TV tuner due in Q1, says Sony New Zealand exec Sony is to launch a digital tuner for the Playstation 3 in early 2008, offering programmable TV recording functions to users of the next-gen console. Warwick Light, sales and marketing manager for Computer Entertainment New Zealand, revealed the details to local website The Press, promising to "transform the PS3 capabilities so as to meet people's changing entertainment needs." "We're also hoping next year – about the same time that Freeview launches its terrestrial broadcasting service – to release a digital tuner for the PS3, turning it into a programmable TV recorder," said Light. Freeview services are expected to launch in New Zealand next March. Although some industry watchers expect an announcement regarding the service to be made at this year's Leipzig Games convention, Sony has previously refused to comment on the speculation. Chris |

Pictures stream fine, but I noticed at times not ALL of them show up. As for music, nothing comes across, but it's on an external HDD on my PC. I think the PS3 has limits on what it reads. The odd thing is, my playlists on my PC will work, then the PS3 will play music. Just weird. Not sure if it is just TOO many files or what. I guess I can always try to make playlists for EVERY album, but that is just crazy work. |
Could someone tell me what type of video files the PS3 will play if transfered on to the HDD?

The DVR function sounds kinda cool, but will probably need an add-on of some type, and if it's a non HD tuner, what's the point?

I have one of those USB HD Tuners too, and it greatly taxes my system (not that I have a state of the art system, mind you). So does this mean a DVR that gets interrupted whenever you play a game or Bluray? Not to mention leaving the PS3 on 24/7.
On a side note, I tried the "resume" function using the triangle button for DVD playback, and it seems like the PS3 doesn't keep your spot on the DVD if you turn it off... |
It looks like Lair has been delayed until September 4. :( It now comes out the same day as Hevenly Sword. I guess I'll be waiting awhile for this one.
