I did at least try out the cheap Radio Shack USB to PS2 adaptor and that seems to work fairly well on the PS3 and makes GH and GHII playable. The only thing that doesn't work is the whammy bar so I'm not going to set any scoring records on the PS3, but I can at least play them with the PS2 guitar and goof around with the PC Guitar Zero.

But the GHIII guitar doesn't work at all with the previous games. So those of us new to the game can't play them without picking up an older guitar and an adapter.

At least on the 360 you can play GHII.

^^^That does really stink. I don't have a 360, so I was hoping that by getting GH3 I would be able to play 1 and 2 as well. At least the GH3 guitar is supossed to work with Rock Band.

Are you corded or wireless? I am surprised how well the adaptor works, but I have to make sure I stay in the line of sight since I am using a wireless. I assume a wired would be better.

Corded PS2. It works really well with the PC also. Guitar Zero is far from perfect, but you can find some pretty cool song packs online.

This is total BS. Sony should have gotten with Red Octane to make sure their most popular games in recent years would be compatible with the PS3 guitar. However, Sony doesn't seem to care much about backwards compatibility with their recent hardware decisions so I hope this costs them lots of PS3 GH3 sales.

Got a chance today to play this at a show (only got to watch Rock Band and get a feel for the guitar). I have to say, only playing the limited demo, I'm even more excited. The guitar is just awesome as they've fixed just about everything that I've had issues with, and the game itself definitely feels like Guitar Hero.

I was chomping at the bit before, but now I just need to have this thing yesterday. And the same is true of Rock Band. It's an expensive year without a doubt.

How heavy are the guitars? How did the Rock Band guitar feel?

They both have some weight to them, but the RB Strat was lighter than the GH Les Paul if I'm not mistaken. Both thankfully quite a bit heavier than the SG, and neither felt like a toy.

Also, the strum bar and fret buttons felt a little tighter on the Les Paul.

The weird thing, and I actually like it, it the little "lip" at the tip of the strum bar on the RB guitar, which would seem to prevent your fingers slipping off during a fast alt strum song.

Overall, both guitars felt great, and pretty sturdy. But remember that I'm judging the Strat without having actually played a song.

I just preordered GH3 at Best Buy and I have to say I am impressed at the quality of the guitar strap. Huge improvement of the strap that was included with GH2.

edit: Okay, maybe not so impressed after all. I hope the little nub that the strap attaches to is bigger on the Guitar Hero 3 guitar, because the strap pretty much pops right off of the Xplorer. It also is a little short.

I just found out that a Best Buy near here (Waterford Lakes for you Orlando folks) is doing a midnight release with free swag and shirts and whatnot. I'm definitely going to go pre-order it over there soon. Also, a GameStop around here is having a tournament on the day it comes out, so hopefully getting the demo from OXM and having the game 12 hours before GS opens will give me an edge.

I spent the $5 for the strap and like it. I like the Cheap Trick and Fastway kind of look to it and it fits fine on the PS2 guitar.

Apparently those "Co-op Exclusive" songs can't even be played in Quick Play unless you unlock them in Co-op career mode. That is pretty fucking weak.

And, IIRC, you can't play co-op career mode online? Nice.

Hopefully the Unlock cheat will unlock those for all modes. Otherwise, that is just ridiculous.

really? It was bad enough before, but that's about as weak as it gets.

From IGN: "The face off, pro face off, battle, and co-op modes all exist online, though you can't play through the co-op career mode with an online friend."

Pretty transparent way of screwing those who don't want to buy multiple guitars.

If you unlock a song in the easy career will it unlock all difficulties in Quick Play? I thought that is the case. If so, you could probably play some of the easier tiers in co-op and only use a single controller and pass a song as long as you hit almost all the notes. Just a guess, and still a pain in the ass and a stupid decision by them.

Good thinking. Although, weren't the encore songs on GHII only unlockable on Normal+?

You're right, you couldn't unlock those encore tracks on easy, and I bet it will be the same way in GH3. Hmm playing Medium difficulty co-op with only one player might be impossible to pass a song.

I forget, will the Rock Band guitar work with Guitar hero 3? If so, I'll just wait until RB comes out to attempt the co-op stuff.

I don't think it's been confirmed yet either way. GH guitar with RB or RB guitar with GH. They're both playing coy.
