I'm more interested in GHIII than RB. That set list is awesome.

Well, it says Charlie Daniels Band. That version doesn't have a lot of guitar in it. If it's some remake, that is a different story. I like the song, I just don't think it fits the "Guitar" hero genre well.

And I totally disagree. For me, at least half the GH2 songs rock. And almost that many GH1 songs. I don't KNOW at least half the GH3 songs. Out of the other half, only about 12 are like "wow, I can't wait to play that". So it's just a disappointing setlist for me.

Having said that, I will still likely end up buying it.

Actually, it says "Made famous by the Charlie Daniels Band", so that means it's a cover, which means that they could have shifted some parts to different instruments. For example, in Killer Queen in GH1, the piano part was played by a guitar so that it didn't sound too weird for the player to be playing it (although they kept the sax part in Frankenstein as-is).

As for the song lists, I've found that personally, I don't have to actually have heard of a song in order to enjoy playing it. In fact, some of my favorite songs from both games have been ones I've never heard before playing them, and my least favorite ones have been ones that I've known going in.

"as made famous by...", meaning it's going to be a cover.

Here, check out Keith Urban, playing it on his guitar:

I agree. Steely Dan would be the only reason I would have on passing up GH3.

When I saw the setlist of GH2 I was like "eh, big deal...only a few good songs". Like many others here have said, just about every song is extremely fun to play, and some of the ones I was looking forward to are my least played. GH3 looks even more impressive than GH2, and my mouth is still watering over the GH: Encore setlist. I will buy a PS2 & GH: E if the controller isn't backwards compatible.

Not sure if you have to snap the wiimote..but it is 10$ cheaper

Yes, you do, and the "broken note" sound comes from the wiimote speaker as well.

So can you play this game if you are left handed? Does the guitar "work" when holding it left handed?

Yes, it works exactly the same. The only change is that you've got to change an option to turn "Lefty Flip" on, which will switch the order of the notes on-screen so that they match up with the fact that you're holding the guitar the other way (Green on the right, Orange on the left).

I don't know how the GH3 guitar is designed, but the other guitars have had some ergonomic issues when it comes to playing left handed. The whammy bar ends up in a vastly different place (above the strum bar instead of below), and I imagine that the strap is a bit uncomfortable compared to playing righty.

I've got no qualms with the strap playing lefty, and actually the Explorer feels better lefty, as there is no weird angular piece jutting up (as I'm holding the guitar "upside down"). However, whammy placement has always been awkward, and unfortunately, I will never be able to eek out as much star power as righties, as I have to completely take my hand off the strum and move it over to the whammy bar. Most righties have the whammy right under the strum where they can just move their fingers down and whammy. Other than that, I'm fine.

I agree about that. The Xplorer has minimum problems, namely what you mentioned with the Whammy Bar. Overall it's not that bad, other than the fact that when I watch most people play I feel like everything is backwards.

Thats the main thing I was wondering about - the whammy bar and how it played into the game.

I assume that a version without a guitar will be available? While I would rather have a wireless controller, I'm content with my two wired ones.

I preordered at RedOctane the 360 version (I have the Wii also but the online battles and co-op are going to be GREAT!).

It sounds like the best Guitar Hero yet. Who's gonna battle me online? The more friends the merrier, feel free to add me now in preparation for the utter humiliation (*). Gamertag: GatorDeb07 (zero seven).

* that I'll suffer after losing badly.

Question. Does anyone know if Best Buy is still taking pre-orders for GUitar Hero III? I've read that many are putting down their 5$ deposit on GHIII, but also picking up a pretty nifty strap. And then just canceling the pre-order and getting it from Red Octane.

As long as they haven't sold all the pre-order boxes your store has (which I seriously doubt they would) then they are still taking them.

Yes, there will be. I believe it will either be $50 or $60 for the game alone. If its only $40 more for a wireless guitar, i would say you should do it, and sell your wired one on ebay or something

I see a bunch of people pre-ordering directly from Red Octane. Is there any particular reason or benefit for this?

Somewhere on the site it says you will get the game before release. At least, that's what I've read.

That and people were picking up the limited Elite bundles that came with some extra goodies.

Didn't some people who preordered Guitar Hero 2 from Red Octane have problems with late shipments?

I pre-prdered GH2 from RO and it ended up arriving the day after release. I ended up picking it up at Circuit City a couple days before release (due to their order online/instore pickup snafu), then selling the one sent by RO at cost when it arrived. I guess if you live in California you might get it before the release date (which is Sunday this time around), but I don't want to risk it again just to save tax dollars.

All preorders come with a guitar bag, keychain, and 2" strap. The elite bundles came with an extra faceplate and a t-shirt.
