True that, but if you co-op through legendary it's not so bad at all! (Thanks to JustinRT, Ronin, and Steelgear!)

Bungie says that there will never ever be a custom match-making lobby option:

There is not and will not be any game browser for custom games. We had this conversation when Halo 2 was new - matchmaking is how you find games. For custom games, you will have to rely on your friends list, your recent players list, and the "party up" feature.

This is not something that can be "patched in" either, even if we wanted to do so.

I won't lock this thread yet, but this discussion topic is pretty much closed.
God, what a condescending prick.

I'm sure they have their reasons, but who the hell has 16 friends willing to play a custom match, all at the same time? This decision pretty much kills Halo's multi-player for me, as I'm already tired of Slayer.

I don't see it as condescending at all. It is pretty much the basis for of their entire outlook on matchmaking and has been (as he said) from Halo 2 on.

With a title as popular as Halo 3 it isn't uncommon for me at all to have that number of people on. On a Friday night i normally have 30-40 friends online and more than 3/4 of them will be in Halo 3.

Did you play Halo 2 much online? They added playlists like Action Sack that had absolutely absurd gametypes - not just the normal slayer. I'm sure the same thing will happen again.

I also have the opposite problem you are. My friends are so frequently playing customs that i get bored and want to do some matchmaking. Build your friends list up a little more and it will make all the difference.

Or perhaps, Halo may not be for you.

Probably - I mean, none of my (real) friends play video games (well, just one does, and he hates FPSs). So building up a list of people to play with might be more work than it would be worth.

The thing is, in interviews leading up to Halo3, the devs promised a custom lobby, in answer to all the complaint about Halo2, and now this.

slop101, I just got my 360 and am slowly building up my friends list since I gave up my Xbox many moons ago. I will send you a friend request as I am always on the lookout for some more Halo players.

I am also having trouble catching people on Halo right now due to my meager friends list but it will just takes a couple of months to get into some games with a friend who has more friends, which usually translates to me getting those friends. Soon you may have too many like xmiyux has.

heh - I actually sent you a friend request a couple weeks ago, and you accepted - my tag's in my sig.

I do have to say that my time playing is very inconsistent - I'll go a week playing a lot, then I'll go weeks not playing at all. But with all the games coming out now I should be playing more and more. I'm really looking forward to CoD4!

Like Spiderbite said, get in some games with a few friends and then start sending out FR to the people you liked. That is how my list slowly got built up with good people.

Did I accept? I'm sure I did. I get so many FR's that I'm not sure who's in my list especially if their Gamertag is different.

Same here. I often can't play during the most popular hours when most are on due to my work/sleep schedule but I try when i can. Either way, if you see me online then hit me up.

Amen to that, my playlist of choice is Ranked Team Slayer, but the only time you can really join in with your friends (easily) is on Custom matches. I like them once in a while, but a lot of them are ridiculous "let's make everyone invincible and have rocket launchers!" Umm ok. So ya, I noticed that everyone is playing that custom stuff as well.

I definitely feel the same way. Custom matches are okay but they just don't have the same competitive fun (for me) of playing with your friends in a goal oriented team battle. Working together in Team Slayer, CTF, Territories, and games like that is what really floats my boat (unless my team sucks ).

We had some great team battles last night and kicked some serious booty several times.

[Rainman]Steelgear and Strange are excellent drivers.[/Rainman]

I must have logged before Steelgear showed up. We did though, in fact, kick a good deal of ass last night. We controlled Zanzibar ridiculously well.

I had a blast last night with the RACE games....those were interesting. We had 8 "friends" in the room and that was a good time.

The Rocket Race is fun for about the first time you play it...after that, it gets very repetitive.

I haven't had a chance to play that one yet. If you have it saved let's give it a try next time we're on.

Thanks for the compliments, Spider. I love driving that damn warthog.

Sounds good. We'll need at least four people. Trust me...it's cool as hell at first, but gets boring quickly, especially when you're in a room like I was the first night of release, where the guys there do it over and over and over and over and over and over...

Anyway, I should be on for quite a bit tonight, starting in about 30-45 min.

Cool. Unfortunately I'm stuck at work tonight, so I won't be on until after midnight. Can you send gametypes to other people? If so you're gonna have to hook me up with that tonight.

I have no clue how to get this thing up that high. Do you mean the Prowler (with the turret) or the Chopper? I can't get either one up onto the rocks and then over.

the gold skull on the arc. We did that on Legendary co-op. I got a Ghost up there and blasted off the edge while someone jumped from the hood onto the ledge for the skull. No idea how to get there otherwise... I suck with grenade jumping!
