They're insinuating that they'll be making Final Fantasy XIII games for ten years.

Remember the days where all we had to do was keep straight the fact that 1 in Japan was 4 here, 2 was 3, etc.?

...good times.

They've been doing it with FFVII games

I and II are just now coming out for the PSP. I expect III-VI will come out eventually.

Much larger installed base with the DS than the PSP, especially in Japan where the games are most popular.

Yeah.. but that took seven or eight (?) years to start and it was basically an afterthought after it exploded in popularity.. this is being planned from the beginning. Also, I think there's more XIII games already announced than what they've done for VII up to now.

Well, it has officially been announced today at E3 - Final Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360 on the same date as the PS3. I'll post a link when it becomes available.

EDIT: And here we are:

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/fi...g-to-xbox-360/

Sorry, Sony. The Xbox 360 is finally going to get a blockbuster RPG. Square has announced at the Microsoft press conference that Final Fantasy XIII is going to be released on Xbox 360 the same day as PS3 in North America and Europe. What a huge coup for Microsoft, and what a great piece of news for Xbox 360 owners who also happen to be great console RPG lovers.

Ouch Sony, ouch. Another game to cross off that 'reason to buy a PS3' list. OUCH.

Yeah, tough loss for Sony but good for gamers. Doesn't matter to me as long as it comes out on both so I don't need a 360 to play it.

PS3 fanboys are knocking stockbrokers out of the way so they can be the first out the window.

I'll admit I'm pretty shocked by this announcement and a little sad. Not because I don't think 360 owners shouldn't be allowed to play, just that I think the PS3 is a great console* and I hate that it's not doing as well as it deserves. FFXIII would have definitely boosted sales.

* It's become a great console thanks to Sony's neverending firmware updates and new features, which in my opinion has made up for the badly botched launch.

I have one and it's a great Blu-ray player but an average console with an outdated controller. They put games second and a year and a half later gamers are still feeling it. The never ending updates are nice, but they're just playing catch up to features that should have been there from day one. Arrogance played a big role in how things have turned out thus far. Makes you wonder if Sony knew about FF ahead of time and have something planned for tomorrow.

FFXIII is good for 360 gamers who don't want to drop another $400 on hardware.

Since I already have a PS3, and have many good memories of playing FF on Sony consoles, I may still get this for the PS3. My Metal Gear Solid 4 needs something to keep it company on the shelf.

When is this game coming out? I haven't played a FF game since the Super Nintendo. I'd much rather have Diable 3 than this game on the 360 though.

I'll most likely stick with the single Blu-ray. MS's packaging for multi-disk games has been pretty blah (Lost Odyssey in particular).

Do you mean another $400 instead of buying a PS3 or another $400 on top of the RROD(s) they've already been hit with?

Anyway, this could be Sony's worst year yet if/when Kingdom Hearts III goes Wii. They really need to get the stuff they've shown off at past E3's out the door, LittleBig and Home especially.

Disney/square/Wii? Sounds like a gold mine.

FFXIII is still exclusive to Sony in Japan. No word on what happens to Versus though.

Fucking sweet. I'll get back into a FF game now that it's not Sony exclusive.

Awesome news but fuck I read 2 pages and thought this was late breaking news, until I seen the date that said 04/24/07.

I was thinking get PS3 to playFFXIII but now i'll let $60 go to MS. No reason for me to buy PS3 now. Only 8 PS3 games i really want to play but still not worth $500 plus softwares.

You'll be able to get a PS3 for much less than $500 by the time FFXIII actually comes out in the United States.

Versus XIII apparently still stays PS3 exclusive, but exclusives for any console now seem to change with the weather, so who knows how long that lasts.

Oh yeah, KHIII is years away, but it would be Sony fans luck right now if Nintendo were to announce exclusivity on that at one of the conferences this year.

I'm glad to see more games being cross platform like this. I'm so past the days where I want to own 3 and 4 consoles just to be able to play all the cool games. However, I don't really care about Final Fantasy, but this gives me hope for Kingdom Hearts being a cross platform game(on the 360).

I can dream.

I guess I can live with the fact that my PS3 lost another exclusive game, but what will really upset me is if I find out that this is the reason that it's taking Square so long to finish it. Surely, if this was still a PS3 exclusive, they would be further along in development.

I also wonder how much MS spent for this. How much was the GTA IV downloadable content, 40 or 50 million? Is this worth at least that much to them?
