The wiimote is only shaky for me if I'm far away (9-10 feet) and near the 'edge' of the sensor zone.

That's very good news. I remember that I had to stop at the very end of the first Dino Crisis because I simply had no ammo to do anything. Never want to have that problem in a game again.

You were supposed to conserve your ammo.

The point of "survival horror" is that you have very little tools (ie weapons, ammo, and health kits) to "survive" with. In survival horror, you are deliberately underpowered so you should only fight when absolutely necessary and run away when there is chance to do so.

In RE4, you had more weapons and ammo than Rambo, so it abandoned "survival horror" and became an action game. That was my, as well as many other's, biggest complaint against RE4.

Is everyone really playing that close to their screens? It seems like the effective range is really small - you can't be within five feet of the screen to prevent you from smashing the remote into it and you can't be more than nine feet away?

I have a fairly small living room and if I'm playing a sensor bar game from the couch I sometimes have to lean forward to get it to work well. I'd like to see that range extended a bit.

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but has anyone gotten any accessories for the Wii? Just wondering if ppl have gotten the air-fan or the Nyko charger for the Wiimotes? Any input would be great, thanks.

I believe the manual says 4-8'. 4' is plenty far away. My reach is certainly not 4' -- so i don't see how i'd be in danger of smashing the tv.

When trying to check out, I get:

"Wii Console Kmart Item #9990000021996211P has only 0 quantity available".

Looks like OOS.

Most accessories are wastes of money. An air fan? Huh? The charger seems like it could be useful, but you could buy a charger and many more rechargeable batteries for less.. and the batteries will work in more than just the Wii remotes.

I generally play probably about eight/nine feet away, directly in front of the sensor bar, which is on the top of the tv. I did have issues at that distance with Rayman RR, it kept saying I was out of range, but I haven't had problems with SPM or Godfather or Zelda or Excitetruck.
If I sit on the sofa a certain way, not only am I 9 feet away, but I'm on the outskirts of the sensor bar viewing zone pattern thing, so it's a little spotty there.

Air fan--unless you absolutely have to have the Wii in a tight hot cabinet with other tech, if a fan is required so the system doesn't burn out/break down, it's shoddy engineering. The charger thing, I guess the convenience is attractive. I don't think I've got any 'optional' accessories for any console, ever; they've all been controller/memory card type things which are pretty much essentials, except for one set of wireless controllers for the Genesis.

I don't know. It looks better then I thought but definately not a main RE game.

I like the dynamic camera and the (even cheesier) dialogue. But I don't like how it is just a spin off. I really want RE 5.

Ya don't say.

I was careful in most of the Resident Evil games and I enjoyed them.....but the video looked shaky and using the Wiimote to aim and shoot looks like it might cause you to use more ammo because of the difficulty aiming. I only brought up Dino Crisis because I was really enjoying the game till I couldn't go any farther in it. My wastefulness still haunts me.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of either style. I didn't like the earlier RE games as I just don't like that survival horror crap much. I just don't think it's much fun running from stuff as you're worried about using up your ammo to early. Just not my cup of tea.

Now RE4 gets away from that, but fails as an action game compared to something like Gears of War as the movement and aiming controls are still too 'tank" like to make for a good action game. I like it more than the past games and will probably finish it (on chapter 5-1 currently), but would give it at best a 7.5-8.0/10 right now.

Kind of a tough comparison there between RE4 and GoW since GoW was released almost two years later.

I know. I just played GoW first so it pretty much ruined RE4 for me.

Though there were third person shooters prior to RE4 with better control schemes (even back to the N64 with Jet Force Gemini).

I picked up the Nyko charger last night. I don't burn through the batteries so quicky that I really needed it badly, but I like not having to worry about the batteries, and I really liked that it organizes two controllers while they charge, I had no good spot for them. The rubberized grip on the back of the replacement battery cover also feels nice when you're holding the controller. Now I just need to get one more charger so I have all 4 controllers taken care of.

I also picked up the Nyko wireless sensor bar as I have a front projection setup and right now I have to have my Wii halfway across the room and not in my entertainment center under the projector with all my other equipment because of the cable going to the current sensor bar. I haven't had a chance to hook up the new sensor bar yet to try it out, but it got good reviews.

I was thinking about picking up Paper Mario or Cooking Mama for the Wii. My girls loved the DS version of Cooking Mama, is the Wii version pretty much the same game? Can anyone recommend one over the other?

The DS version is better is only because it's cheaper and it's portable. The Wii version has more recipes and a good multi-player mode and a lot of uses of the Wii remote over simply the stylus/touch screen. I'd say pick up the DS version and if she's REALLY into it.. check out the Wii version.

I have both and I would certainly recommend Paper Mario over Cooking Mama. I've had a considerable amount of fun with both but the gameplay in Paper Mario is just far too creative and great to be missed. Cooking Mama can be a short rental for a day when you both have some the time to check it out.

Well, they already have the DS version, I was just curious if the Wii version was any better. Seems they're pretty much the same except they might enjoy the multi-player mode the Wii offers.

I still don't understand why Cooking Mama wasn't a budget title. I guess the lack of games allows it to sell at that price but why not release it at $30? I would have bought it then.

Hmm.. it IS better, but the question should be: Is it $50 better?

I will say it was a BIG hit (the multi-player) at the party at my place last weekend.. so the multi-player seem hot (I did not partake in that) but I was much more amused that my friend's girlfriend and I were in the kitchen doing mad preparation and cooking while everyone else was pretending in the other room.

That's exactly right.. there are still not many games coming out so they can get away with it. I wouldn't expect that to change until the end of the year at the least.. maybe a littler longer (after this holiday season?).

I'm anywhere from 4'-12' away on my screen and it has no issues.

And I think RE:UC looks awesome! I'm all about it.

I rented Cooking Mama for the Wii, and it was enjoyable but not worth $50 in my opinion. It would be worth $30, as long as you had people willing to play multiplayer with you. My wife tried it with me but wasn't a big fan. Excite Truck is still the only Wii game she's been able to get into. She has been enjoying Super Paper Mario as a spectator, though.
