Here is a question I got for gamers. I just bought a Wii and have not owned a system since the Genesis. If you have never owned a Mario Party is the MP8 a good game to own. I have an 11 year old and every kid in the neighborhood is over playing the Wii. I bought Super Paper Mario and I love playing that. I guess what I am asking is "Is it a good game to enjoy, not is it an acceptable upgrade over the previous Mario Parties? Did kids around my sons age enjoy the previous MP?"

I'd say it is a safe purchase in your case. The game is designed for that exact intent.

Yep would be right up your (and your son and his friends alley). A lot of the complaints are from reviewers/gamers who've played many games in the series and thus are frustrated by the lack of innovation.

Since you and your son have never played it, that issue won't matter and the series is great for multiplayer--especially among the younger crowd.

I just picked up Mario Party 8 at Circuit City for $39.99. But it looks like they no longer have the second promotion where you buy 2 Wii games and get $20 off. I was hoping to also get the Godfather game, but I guess I'll have to wait.

I think the person was just asking whether they should get multiple cards.

My CC had about two dozen behind the counter, so I gladly got my copy of MP8... and to make things better, the TV I bought from them last week was on sale this week so I got the price difference back and only paid $13 for the game.

The lack of widescreen is a concern, there's really no excuse for that nowadays.
I'm always wary of "more of the same" comments in reviews. Sometimes "more of the same" is a good thing (the first three Ratchet and Clanks). And of course if someone has never played the series (such as myself with MP), "more of the same" means nothing to them.

You should post this as a "Hot Deal".

I like the comments as they are informative.

If its a series I love and don't mind more of the same, then I know I'll like it.

If it's a series I'm burned out on I know to stay away.

If I've never played it, I ignore and figure the review is a couple points lower than what I'd give it since the issue doesn't apply to me.

Quick question, my Wii just developed a ton of dots and artifacts all over the screen. I'm getting pixelation everywhere. I've attempted to connect it to another TV, I even used another set of component cables. I also formatted the memory, and nothing works.

Is this a common problem with the Wii, and is there any way to correct this?

I thought I remember reading about this before. Some claimed it was the graphics card overheating. Either way, I'd call Nintendo... You have at least a 1 year warranty and potentially a 15 month warranty (if you registered online).

Give Nintendo a call. From what I've read about that on other forums, such visual problems are usually a sign that the video card has overheated and went bad.

Nintendo has excellent customer service though so you shouldn't have any problem's getting it replaced quickly.

Did you try ringing it up? I got the $20 discount today, 2 copies of MP8 for $60 total (one is for my nephew).

How much is it trading for now at GS or EB. I might pick it up if it comes out to be about $25 for one copy.

Should be able to dump it on ebay for $35-40 profit.

No, I asked the guy working in the video game department and he told me that the $20 off promotion ended last week. I wonder if they'll still give me the discount if I take my receipt in tomorrow, or if I'm out of luck.

The promotion probably did end last week, but CC has been plagued lately with these kinds of deal oversights (like the HD-DVD matrix set misprice online, the doubled up giftcards when buying Pirates of the Caribbean on BluRay, etc.) The promotion is still in the system, for whatever reason (note that it is no longer available online).

Ubisoft apoligizes for bad Wii games:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/792/792772p1.html

"We made mistakes," they told the magazine. According to Spiegel, Ubisoft wanted to be first to capitalize on Wii and in its haste to release product it sacrificed the quality of the titles. Ubisoft has reportedly learned from its mistakes, though, and is promising that the quality of its forthcoming Wii projects will be significantly better.

To repeat what I posted about this on CAG:

It's a nice way for Ubisoft to basically say: "We got your $$$ suckers! Sorry the games sucked, promise our next games won't be so bad so we can get your $$$ again!"

I learned my lesson with Ubisoft when I pre-ordered Lunar: Dragon Song. I thought, how badly could they screw up such a great series? I played a few hours of it. I haven't played such a horribly designed RPG since the NES era.

Ubisoft was the publisher for Lunar DS, they did not develop it.

Nintendo hands out development jobs to other companies too and is technically 'only' the publisher. But If Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga had sucked, I'd sure be blaming Nintendo as well as their 2nd party developer AlphaDream.
