At any rate, thanks for the heads up.

Oh well, I'll just hold off as I won't have time to play SPM until July anyway and will just buy it for $50 then if I don't find a deal in the mean time.

I think the main advantages are
a. using coupons or gift cards if you have them and
b. getting reward zone points if you buy from BB.
I would think sales tax would counter point b. however. I've always just bought mine on the Wii, since unless you have a coupon/gc (I didn't) or find a deal (I didn't) it's cheaper (no tax) and more convenient, plus you can buy as little as 10.00 worth on the Wii, and there's no savings for buying in mass.
If there are other advantages to buying the actual cards, please share.

I buy my cards at Best Buy and use the '$5 dollar off' coupon from the gamer gift cards. So far I have saved $15 on the three cards I've bought. Also there is no tax added when I buy Wii points cards at the store.

On thinking about it, the points cards are probably treated like gift cards, so it makes sense there's no tax added.
I haven't found a GGC with coupon since middle of last year

I buy both Wii points and 360 Microsoft points at Best Buy, for both the $5.00 dollars off and the Reward Zone credit. I have purchased Wii Points off the channel when Best Buy was in a card drought. Just filled all my Wii channels today. All 48. Nintendo direly needs to release a mass-media update or there own external HD. Also, a folder option would be nice (NES folder, SNES folder).

So Gamestop has 2gb cards on sale for 20. I picked one up. Is 2gb cool or should I get another one. Right now I have no sports games. Have the following on the way: Super Paper Mario, Marvel UA & Wario.

Cool about the memory
The more I'm reading about the Wii the more I'm liking it
I had no intention of buying any systems as I was happy with my DS/PSP combo. Then my son started bugging me about it, so I admit I have no clue as to what kind of addiction I have just purchased
I'll have to go to ign and read up on this system.
Well, it comes Thursday so I'll have more to report after the weekend.

I don't think the Wii will be at a disadvantage 2 years down the road. It's all about games, games, games and Nintendo has the legacy and unique type of games that appeal to people of all ages. I'm excited about MP8 coming out today / tomorrow. That will be a great party game.
And look at the PS2, it outsells everyone except the Wii and the reason is because it has an incredible library of games and is reasonably priced. Most consumers don't care about graphics and eye candy, they want games that are fun to play and have great replay value.
And I don't doubt that the Wii will still be hard to find this Christmas. Their sales would be even higher if they had more units in the pipeline.

Wii shortages could continue for second Christmas - analyst
Matt Martin 09:57 (BST) 29/05/2007
As industry experts question long-term appeal in casual market
Shortages of the Wii are set to continue throughout 2007 according to analysts at Lazard Capital Markets, with Nintendo potentially missing key sales during the Christmas season for a second year running.
And while the company increases production of the console to 1.5 million units a month, some analysts have begun to question the long-term appeal of the Wii amongst the casual gaming audience.
"Demand still appears to exceed supply, and we believe that shortages could persist through the remainder of the year, including the key holiday period," commented Lazard's Colin Sebastian.
For some analysts, the Wii may begin to lose favour with the casual consumer, and in the face of next-generation gaming it could also look out of date as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 continue to push the envelope with graphical and technological advances.
"Its appeal is primarily to casual gamers, and there's a serious question about how long casual gamers will stay engaged with the platform," commented Van Baker, technology analyst at Gartner Inc, reports the LA Times.
"It wouldn't be surprising to see them lose interest after a relatively short amount of time," he said.
"The Wii in a couple of years is going to look like old technology with low resolution [and] slow performance. People may not be accepting of that," he added.
However, the Wii is still receiving praise from consumers themselves, with a recent poll by Frank N. Magid Associates revealing that 31 per cent of Wii owners expect to still be playing the console a year from now, compared to 21 per cent of Xbox 360 owners.
And the most recent US sales figures from NPD revealed that the console is trouncing its competitors at retail, with 360,000 units sold in April, compared to 82,000 PlayStation 3's and 174,000 Xbox 360's.

What do they mean by "slow performance"? I haven't noticed long load times or other issues with the console, except that the Wii Shop channel always takes forever to come up.
