Since I pre-ordered it from them (the 25 dollar bundle preorder) will it GUARANTEE me RB on opening day? I hate to hear them say: They only gave us xxx amount and it didnt cover all of our preorders so we'll put you on the waiting list. Id be pissed. Ill be getting there at opening though so that might help.

Would it be possible for you to cover your bases and pre-order somewhere else as well? Worst case you get 2 bundles and you can either return one or, if the supply really is that limited, put the other up on eBay or something.

Since this is such a niche product, and so expensive with so many parts to it, I have a feeling that if you pre-ordered at one of the game stores, you'll more than likely get it for sure. Most stores, and all of the stores anywhere close to me, were only able to offer 3 to 8 pre-orders period, per system. They were very strict about that, at least in my area. If other parts of the country are anything like my area, we're not going to see many, if any, cases of EB/GS having sold more pre-orders than the number of games that they receive on release day.

A guy on GAF just posted the following in response to being asked if anyone had any special plans for the release:

They have a demo of this at my local BB. Let me just say that it is more than fun, especially the drums.

I would love to get one. In fact, I am trying to get a copy of GHIII, because the GHIII guitar will work with Rockband.

Is that confirmed somewhere?

That would be great, because if I can't get the box set, I may just get the game only to hold me over and use the PS3 GHIII controller I have.

Also, I wonder if the Rock Band guitar controller will work in GHIII...

aktick 11-15-07 04:10 PM

It's basically 99% confirmed that the GH guitars (I think both the Xplorer and Les Paul on 360) will work with Rock Band, but the Rock Band guitar will NOT work with GH. Sounds like the blame isn't on Harmonix for that, but the maker of GH (Activision?) for not making their software able to work with 3rd party guitars?

So yeah, anybody wanting to play who can't find or doesn't want the entire bundle can just buy the game and still play all the guitar and bass parts.

bunkaroo 11-15-07 04:14 PM

I found a compatibility chart at Wiki that suggests the PS3 compatibility is not yet confirmed.

freshticles 11-15-07 04:18 PM

Yay for Canada. We get to wait a whole extra month for the game! This will be fun.....I'm so depressed:(

Here's an article on IGN where they tested all the various guitars on the different games.

-eek- Never knew that the Stratocaster wasn't going to work with GH II either. That sucks. Still for me the most interesting thing is that this turns out to be the fault of the GH developers, not the RB ones, as I had always thought.

"Harmonix develops and bases all of our games, guitars and other peripherals on open standards established by platform manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony. Rock Band is no exception and supports an open controller standard. Guitar controllers are like any other standard game controllers--the controller sends a signal back to the game depending on the buttons you push. If a third party game controller is based on open standards, then it should work with Rock Band as well. If certain controllers do not work with Rock Band, questions about those controllers should be directed to the peripheral manufacturer. In addition, we welcome any 3rd party software that wishes to support Rock Band guitars. If a 3rd party guitar / music game does not support the Rock Band guitar controller, questions regarding this should be directed to the game manufacturer

Couldn't you still order the game only from the US?

Just an IGN article about the DLC, basically the same info as stated before, but they say full albums (Who's Next being the first) won't happen until 2008. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/835/835522p1.html

Yeah, I've been considering all sorts of ways to get myself a copy in November, but Calgary isn't that close to the US border, and there isn't much on the Montana side for a couple hours too...

As for ordering from the US, I haven't been able to find anywhere that was taking preorders that would ship to Canada. If you have better luck, I'd be happy to hear about it.

aktick 11-15-07 05:22 PM

Well if you ARE just looking for the game, how much would it cost to ship from the midwest to Canada? I'd be happy to pick up a couple copies of just the game for you Canucks, as long as it's not going to cost a ton to ship (unless you're willing to pay a ton). :p

If I understand the USPS shipping stuff it looks like it would be a flat rate of about $23 to ship to Canada for the 6-10 day shipping. I'd happily take you up on that offer if you could get an extra copy. I've been hearing nothing but how difficult it will be to even get one though.

invisiblegt 11-16-07 09:33 AM

Well, I just pre-ordered from Wal-Mart... One of the only places online I could still find a bundle for the 360. Unfortunately, it states that it won't ship out until the 23rd, with a delivery date between the 3rd and 5th of December.

I still plan on going to my local Wal-Mart at midnight in the hopes of picking up a copy that day and, then, either cancelling my pre-order or simply returning it once it arrives.

Pre-order = insurance I suppose...

GamesRadar Comparison (video in the link)

"After extensive playing and an expert consultation with our friends at Official Xbox Magazine, we've made the following conclusion:

Guitar Hero III hard = Guitar Hero II expert
Rock Band Expert = Guitar Hero II hard

Basically, Guitar Hero is a bitch. Not in a bad way mind you, just a lot more difficult to jump into. On the other hand, Rock Band tends to be a bit too easy for hardened vets."

We're talking just the game (not all the peripherals), right? I haven't really heard (seen) anybody say the game itself will be very difficult to find...but that might just be the way I read it.

If I can get a handful of game-only copies, I'll grab them and if people want them, I'll send 'em, if not, I'll just return them or eBay them.

Which is fine by me, since I can do pretty good on medium in GH, but terrible on hard and won't even try expert.

Michael Corvin 11-16-07 09:41 AM

I'm with you but wouldn't that equate to:

Rock Band Expert = GHIII Medium

pinata242 11-16-07 09:42 AM

Keep your transitive property to yourself, nerd.

Not necessarily. It could be harder than GH3 Medium, but not as hard as GH3 Hard. (And there's a HUGE jump in difficulty there, so its possible).

RichC2 11-16-07 09:53 AM

GH3 Hard is substantially easier than GH2 Expert. (I still can't beat GH2 on Expert (damn you Psychobilly Freakout), but flew through GH3 on hard without fail).

To be perfectly honest, GH3's note placement is boring as hell. Yes, there are more notes, but they just aren't nearly as fun to play.

The guys on GAF posted a link to streaming video of people playing Rock Band in their Rock Band thread, and they posted a bunch of comments about it as they watched it all. Check it out, they mention how hard songs looked, and various other things. It starts on the following page (34) of the thread:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthre...204875&page=34

And here is the stream they were watching. I bet it works again later today or tonight:

I was looking to get the full special edition (game + peripherals). The problem with game only is I believe the peripherals will not be available on their own until January. I'd just hold out for a Canadian release over that... Thanks anyway though!
