Im pissed. I didnt preorded cuz i didnt think I had to. Now it seems I wont be able to get it when it comes out. How limited is the availabilty gonna really be? Ill have to hit up BB at the midnight launch then shop around 24 hr. stores and other stores when they open that day.

RyoHazuki 11-14-07 02:39 AM

I've got three 360 bundles on pre-order. Can't wait for the 20th.

Supermallet 11-14-07 02:44 AM

Three bundles!? What are you going to do with all of them?

Spiderbite 11-14-07 07:52 AM

Reading the OXM review, this sounds like you really only get the full experience of this game by having three friends over at the same time and playing together.

Is it as much fun as GH for us solo people out there? The couple of my friends who actually game in my city have no interest in this and it sounds like the online function is just so-so.

It's probably not going to be as challenging (guitar-wise) for the GH players who play on Expert. However, the drums should still provide a bit of a challenge for most of us. I've heard that the Metallica DLC puts to rest the rumor of all their notecharts being easy, however.

I've also heard that Harmonix is doing their best to put the WBT in as a patch, as they know not everyone has people locally they can play with. I'd say it's gonna be a blast playing this with my wife and friends and have already looked into buying a mic stand (doable), and a drum stool (kinda pricey).

Supermallet 11-14-07 10:19 AM

I noticed on Harmonix's website that their blurb about the mic says they will be selling their own mic stands.

gmal2003 11-14-07 11:30 AM

Well, I just pre-ordered mine from a Gamestop (one of the last ones in my area that still had pre orders) so Im excited again not being worried that I wouldnt be able to get it at launch. At first the guy told me to put down 5 bucks for the pre order which had me worried its was only a pre order for the game, but he then said 25 so Im all set!!! Im gonna go to the Best Buy in my area thats doin the midnight launch but if the line is too long or I dont get one Ill have my Gamestop preorder as a backup plan.

I already bought a mic stand which is on the way. I dont think Im gonna get a drum stool though. Ill just stick with a chair. 6 DAYS AWAY!!!!!!!!

Doug Heffernan 11-14-07 11:31 AM

I finally went to Best Buy last night to try this out. I am pretty new to Guitar Hero - but I can play some songs well. Next to the Rock Star setup was GH3 , I was able to 3 star the first 3 songs on hard (so I guess that's my skill level now). I didn't really like the 360 les paul, I think I'll stick with my current guitars for PS2.

I really liked the RS guitar, it felt much sturdier than the GH guitars I had played before. I noticed that there were 4 or 5 more buttons towards the body of the guitar, I guess those don't come into play until the highest level since I didn't see any indication I should use them on hard or medium.

I thought the screen was much easier to read than GH in reagrds to the notes - much cleaner and I liked it a lot. All in all I would say as good as GH.

I then tried the drums (while another 14 yr old kid who probabaly thought it was strange to be jamming with a 40 yr old guy) played guitar. Impressions of the drums were that they were much sturdier than I had imagined. The heads are about the same size as many electronic drum kits out there so it was pretty easy for me to play (I used to play drums as well).

I started on medium, and then the next song went to expert, and was able to get through. Others who had no drum experience were having a hard time on easy and medium. For the demo the kick drum was not available. There is also a time when you can "solo" and play what you want for a measure or two which was pretty cool.

All in all I think it is a great game, and will be fun to do the drums and vocals with friends, etc.

RE: Drum stool.....I think what I'm going to do is use an extra computer desk chair I have sitting here, which is adjustable, and take off the arms. Should work out pretty good I think.

I'll wait until I get the game and the mic and try to rig something up to hold it. A regular mic stand isn't really going to work if you are drumming, is it?

Supermallet 11-14-07 03:26 PM

For using the mic while drumming, I suggest a mic stand with an arm attachment. Or, if you have enough space, you could try setting the stand up next to your chair.

joystiq just posted an article about Rock Band and Harmonix:
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/14/jo...d-incidentals/

I especially liked this part:

Although Harmonix PR coordinator John Drake wouldn't give the pricing of the downloadable songs, he did say, "It'll take your breath away -- in a good way."

I think I need to pre-order after all.

"It'll take your breath away -- in a good way."
Wow. That sounds promising.

flashburn 11-14-07 04:27 PM

*crossing my fingers for a buck a song*
I'd probably buy every single song if they were that cheap.

Supermallet 11-14-07 04:37 PM

What would take my breath away would be a pack of five songs for three dollars.

Brent L 11-14-07 04:42 PM

I know eBay auctions aren't usually posted, but this isn't mine, and I think it's interesting enough to share, just for the shock of it:

Supermallet 11-14-07 04:48 PM

$400?! Gotta love extortionists.

Decker 11-14-07 05:38 PM

How stupid are people? Spending at least $425 to buy a $180 game and get it shipped 5 days before its official release. Shipped parcel post, it'll take over a week to get there. Whoever buys that deserves to be ripped off.

I wonder when I'll get my copy from Amazon...

Silkk_34 11-14-07 08:24 PM

Missed out on pre-orders. How early should I be camped out at my local Walmart or Kmart.
Wally is a 24 hr store and Kmart opens at 8am

DLC pricing and schedule. A bit of a price break from GH, and songs available individually.

Rock Band DLC priced, detailed

Bundle options and release schedule explained for the upcoming download-driven rhythm game from MTV and Harmonix.

Since Rock Band was first announced by Harmonix and MTV Games in March, the developers have made no secret of their ambitious plans for downloadable content. As the game's release has drawn closer, information about those plans has trickled out. At the E3 Media and Business Summit, Harmonix said it would be offering full downloadable albums from artists like The Who, with more tracks from Metallica, The Grateful Dead, and The Ramones among those that gamers could add on to the retail game.

With Rock Band set for release next Tuesday, Harmonix today finally took the wraps off its downloadable content model today. The studio has apparently heard complaints regarding the mandatory three-song bundles and $6.25 price point adopted by the Guitar Hero franchise's downloadable content, and is giving gamers a bit of a break.

Rock Band will still feature pre-selected three-song packs for download, but they will instead cost $5.49 (440 Microsoft points on Xbox 360). Songs will also be available individually for $1.99. Harmonix has said future songs will be sold individually for as little as $.99 (80 Microsoft points), and as much as $2.99 (240 points). However, "the vast majority" will come in at the standard $1.99 price point. The developer did not say how much full-album downloads would be, or when the first albums would be released.

Harmonix also detailed its release schedule for the first five weeks after Rock Band launches. The opening week will be highlighted by track packs from Metallica, The Police, and Queens of the Stone Age, with individual songs from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Foreigner, T-Rex, and more. Downloaded tracks will be integrated into all of the game's modes, and will be playable online only if all players have purchased the songs.

That Metallica 3 pack is the greatest thing EVER! Although it makes me wish even more that they included two kick pedals.

I gotta say, my breath certainly wasn't taken away at the pricing, especially the note that the vast majority of the songs will come in at $1.99 each. Hopefully the full albums will be at a pretty good discount.

Fandango 11-14-07 10:05 PM

How is he an extortionist, the bidding started at $150.

aktick 11-14-07 11:24 PM

Luckily I've got about 13,000+ points stockpiled, and I didn't pay full price for any of them, so actually I figured out a 3 song pack will cost me about $1.45 per song, so not too bad. But definitely not "wowed" like that earlier article made it sound like we might be.

Supermallet 11-15-07 12:41 AM

Okay, so I am getting the Metallica pack (Blackened AND ...And Justice For All?? Insane!), The Police pack, Fortunate Son, Juke Box Hero, Bang a Gong, David Bowie pack, Black Sabbath pack, Punk Rock pack, and Buddy Holly.

Clearly Rock Band will be the most expensive game I ever buy. Not only because of the price of the game, but because I'm going to keep paying and paying for new content.

By the way, I love that the DLC will now be integrated into the full game modes, instead of only being able to play them separately. That alone makes the game about a trillion times better than Guitar Hero III.

porieux 11-15-07 12:53 AM

Wow, so Metallica really do have multitracks for their pre Justice albums? If so that is great news. I heard they were lost....
But they must, unless they re-recorded Ride the Lightning (which would suck because they wouldn't be able to play it right these days LOL)
