2006-09-23 -- hard to believe it sat in inventory through the Christmas season, but there you go.

The good news -- I figured out where I put the ethernet cable and headset, so they hopefully won't give me any grief when I go to exchange it.

The fact it sat there through xmas isn't surprising really, if you walked into any Best Buy they had damn near a thousand of them.

anyone get the Lumines add-ons? I really like the skin/video that they have there .. Bring on more!

Liver&Onions 01-28-07 04:13 PM

I got the vs CPU pack and the heavenly star skin. Thank the gods that heavenly star was free. I'd be ultra pissed to have paid for that. But the additional skins that vs CPU unlocks were well worth the 100 points to me :)

So would you guys say the game is nearing worth the price now with some cheap add-ons? The whole 1200 point thing is so killing me for wanting to pick up the base game.

Has there been an official date for Castlevania on live Arcade?

IMO it was worth it for the advance pack as well. If you like puzzle games, this one is a definite purchase.

This has probably been answered somewhere else, but I can't seem to find it:

If I power off the 360, does it continue to download the demos?

Or does the system have to be on to download demos?

More importantly, a Worms date would be nice. Has anything been announced for this Wed. yet?

Yeah the 360 needs a, "Power off when download complete" option. I'm sure it'd be easy to do in an update.

maxfisher 01-29-07 07:11 AM

I've got a quick question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I'm planning on getting Apple's new AirPort Extreme in a couple weeks and setting up a wireless network. I just have a PowerBook G4 and I'm tired of having to screw with USB cables every time I have to print or access my external hard drive. For my 360, I'm just planning on running an ethernet cable from the AirPort base station to the console. I'd really like to set things up so I can access my music library on the 360 without having to 1) plug my ipod into the front of the console or 2) having to have my laptop turned on. I'm wondering, will the 360 be able to pull music from my external hard drive over the network, without my computer being turned on? If not, would it recognize my ipod if I plugged that in as a device on the network? Thanks for any and all help anyone can offer.

there's already an auto shut off feature, so I don't think this is truly necessary.

Is there a noticable quality difference between the VGA cable and the component cables?

mainly when watching DVDs. Without the VGA the system does not upconvert, with it it does.

That's what I'm looking for, since I'm thinking of getting the HD-DVD add on and using it for my DVD upconversion.

Games look as good with the VGA cable though? I've been running 1080i over component.

Edison 01-29-07 10:18 AM

From what I've seen VGA picture looks good, but the colors always seem less saturated than those coming from component. You may be able to overcome this with settings in your tv/monitor.

Yeah, the colors did seem a littler more saturated - but I only noticed that in the dashboard. Once I hit the games I couldn't tell a difference. I'm quite happy that I made the switch.

You can use the regular drive for upconversion too - not just the HD drive.

UT 2007 renamed, 360-bound

Epic Games' once-PC-and-PS3-exclusive shooter is now headed to Microsoft's new console with a slightly tweaked title, Unreal Tournament III.

LAS VEGAS--For a while, it appeared that Epic Games had appeased both Sony and Microsoft with console exclusives. One year after it had teased audiences with some unidentified footage at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo, the developer announced it was bringing Unreal Tournament 2007 to the PlayStation 3 as well as the PC. Given the legendary stature of the Unreal series, that news appeared to trump Epic's deal with Microsoft to bring an all-new game, Gears of War, exclusively to the Xbox 360.

Now, it appears Epic has had a change of heart. Thursday night at the 2007 Midway Gamers' Day at the Hard Rock Casino, Epic vice president Mark Rein swaggered onto the stage to announce two things. First, that Unreal Tournament 2007 will henceforth be known as Unreal Tournament III. "The new name is to reflect the fact that this game is the next generation of the Unreal series, based on the Unreal Engine 3," said Rein, brimming with confidence.

Then Rein dropped a bombshell, announcing that Unreal Tournament III will also arrive on the Xbox 360 when it hits stores later this year. "The 360 is a platform that we've had a little bit of success on," joked Rein, referencing Gears' record-setting sales. As of last week, Gears of War had sold 3 million units worldwide, making it the fastest-selling Xbox 360 game of all time.

Oh, so the system itself will upconvert over VGA? Cool.

Then again, I hate playing discs in a console drive. I like putting as little wear and tear on them as possible.

Midway fighting World War II on 360

Publisher is prepping Hour of Victory, a new Xbox 360-exclusive, Unreal 3-based shooter, for a summer release.

By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot

LAS VEGAS--Traditional opinion is that World War II lasted just under six years, from the German invasion of Poland in September 1939 to the Japanese surrender in August 1945. Some historians think that WWII actually started in 1937, when the Japanese invaded China and started a brutal eight-year campaign in Asia.

In the game industry, though, World War II is never-ending. Each year, Activision's Call of Duty, Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor, and Ubisoft's Brothers in Arms--among others--resurrect the epic conflict. Today, Midway announced that it, too, is getting into the WWII game with Hour of Victory, a new shooter in development exclusively for the Xbox 360. The game is not yet rated or priced but is slated to go on sale this summer.

Hour of Victory uses the Unreal Engine 3.0, the same tech framework behind Gears of War and the recently renamed Unreal Tournament III. It features a series of battles from the European and North African theaters, which saw the Americans and the British take on the Germans and the Italians. Players can play each level as one of three characters: a stealthy cover operative, an American sniper, or a British commando fond of frontal assaults. Players will also be able to seize control of and drive any vehicle on the battlefield.

Executive Producer Mark Caldwell said Hour of Victory's more-character-driven, "big sandbox" approach and emphasis on adventure set it apart from other WWII shooters. "It's an Indiana Jones approach, versus a Saving Private Ryan approach," he said.

For more information on Hour of Victory, check out GameSpot's exclusive hands-on preview from the 2007 Midway Gamers' Day.

I still haven't received my refund for having to pay to repair my original 360. Anyone else still waiting? I just called and was told that a second batch of cheques would be issued by mid to late February. The last time I called they said that it would simply go back on my credit card account.

C'mon Microsoft, just give me my damn money back!
