For now. The whole point of this discussion is the potential of the "arbitrary number" to begin to have a meaning outside of e-peen.

KurrptSenate 01-30-07 08:44 AM

i really can't see that changing in the next 6 months, though

Michael Corvin 01-30-07 08:45 AM

I would just want them to convert to marketplace points. That's the way it should have been from the beginning.

KurrptSenate 01-30-07 09:06 AM

yea, but I really can't see M$ having you pay for an arcade title on LIVE (400-800pts) and have you get even a 1/3rd of those points back from playing/beating the game.

Its a fanciful idea, sure, but I can't see it happening

Save Ferris 01-30-07 09:08 AM

They should make the achievements valuable but within the game you're playing--If you get x amount of achievement points in GOW then you can download a new map

KurrptSenate 01-30-07 09:11 AM

I really can't see games like CoD3 NOT charging points for their map packs. They know everyone who plays the game is going to get the map pack, and I really can't see them NOT charging you money for those maps

I can see them doing something like this with sponsorship (like Mt. Dew sponsored some maps for CoD2). You get the achievements and Mt. Dew buys you some maps! Would be interesting.

Save Ferris 01-30-07 09:49 AM

What I want to avoid at all costs:
Keying in Mtn Dew cap codes like 25T66-6463M4-7PD2367-26X8B69-827U673M56 one after the other to see if you've 'won' a free map.

100% positive. Play option greyed out. I must have checked 10 times. I'm not an idiot and obviously I'm not the only one who had the same experience. No streaming on HD movies, plus at the speed MS was dishing it out I'd have to wait until roughly 90% of it was done before I could start it anyways.
And last night I was getting 1.4-1.8 Megabyte/sec download speeds, my internet is blazing.

I somehow don't see the location in this thread where you were called an idiot. But you are missing the other people in this thread who said that they could in fact stream HD movies.

Liver&Onions 01-30-07 11:26 AM

New announcement on upcoming Live Arcade titles.

http://www.videogametalk.com/

Ten new ones - with new being relative and all that.

Kicker_of_Elves 01-30-07 11:34 AM

Any pricing news on Castlevania yet?

Save Ferris 01-30-07 11:37 AM

Still no more Double Dragon news :(

I somehow don't see the location in this thread where I said some one called me and idiot. It's a figure of speech. Let's keep confrontation to a minimum here.
I don't see where anyone says they can stream HD movies. They say they think they were able to. Shows, sometimes, but not HD movies. In fact upon calling support for my money back. Technician states streaming may not be avaible for 720p content.
And yes, I was credited points in full. and I am done with that nightmare of a service.

 They've butchered it. It looks like a terrible flash game now. I hope it gets canned or sent back to the drawing board. Achievements or not, I'd rather get it on the Wii now.

Quick question -- I accidentally started playing Oblivion with the wrong Gamertag. Is there any way to transfer my save over, or do I have to start from scratch?

Yeah, the "cleaned up graphics" make it look crappy. But I thought similar to other titles, you could turn off the enhances look.

There will be two display options: original and the new "smoothed" look. Source:

I like how Achievments have motivated me to try to play games at higher difficulty levels which is something that I never would've tried in the past. Hell, at $60 a pop I have to get all I can out of these games....

Rewards would be nice but MS/ Game Developers can barely keep a handle on cheating in online games so I don't know how a Rewards prgram can stay on up and up. I joke about being a Achievement Whore but I'm not such a whore that I would cheat or pay......someone to boost me up. -ohbfrank-

And i'm proud of some achievements. DOA4 was a hard game with some impossible achievements - i'm stoked i have a mark that says i unlocked all the characters, outfits, all storylines etc. The 0 point negative achievements are cool too because they show i never got an F or a D rating online. I have 750 or 760 points out of CoD2. If i got all 1000 for beating it on veteran i would also be pretty proud of that "achievement." It was a really difficult game on that level. All the secret achievements also encouraged me to explore Viva Pinata a good deal more than i probably would have otherwise.

Yeah, there are very few I'm proud of as most are easy to attain with dedication. An exception is Zuma whose achievements are a bitch to attain, I still have one left. I've probably put 30 hours into that game. Drawing a blank on others. Maybe some of them in Dead Rising.

So is anyone else excited about Catan? I've played Settlers of Catan a few times with friends of mine who live out of state. I really enjoyed it, but I don't get to see these friends too often. I'm looking forward to being able to play it more frequently thanks to Live.
