Ahh. Easy enough. I already have that set up then. Unfortunately it is associated with my junk email box that I check every 2-3 months.

Canis Firebrand 02-07-07 09:48 AM

I think you can change it, I am just not sure how.

I did it at one point. I think you can find the steps in the help area on xbox.com

I think what I had to do was unlink my gamertag with the email address. Make a new windows live id and then link the gamertag with the new email address.

I'll jump into the leaderboard fray, if there is room:

Gametag = Rahooligan

About this rewards thing...

Guess it's time to go rent a few sports games and King Kong. Gotta bump myself up to the 10,000 point level before this thing starts, which means getting just over 1,000 points before Monday. Then on Monday night I'll sit down and blow through the easy achievements. :D

There are a few games with some easy achievements for people to go for it. 1,000 over the weekend? Kong is a good one. 6-7 hour game, unfortunately it is terribly repetitive and gets old after an hour or so.

Tomb Raider's were pretty easy, another 8 hour game.

I was making my assumptions based on this Gamespot article . I figured I'd get King Kong first, since I should have 6-7 hours between now and Monday. Then I'll do NBA 2K6 and College Hoops 2K6 on Monday since the achievements sound mind-numbingly easy and pretty quick too. What would be funny is if they ban certain games in the terms of the contest, but I don't expect that to happen.

Canis Firebrand 02-07-07 11:23 AM

Get the first Madden game.. I swear you get the points handed to you..

Score a touchdown.. here, have 250 points..

Edited to add.

The  is for the ease at which some of the games just handed out points like they were water.

There are some games where you beat the entire game and get 10-20 points. You get a touchdown and get 250. It may not be 250, but I know it was pretty high and I believe it was just for scoring a touchdown.

Schloob1 02-07-07 11:29 AM

Alright the following statement concerns me from the contest page:

"Rewards Levels are based on how many Gamerscore you gain each calendar year."

From what period of time are they going with for this contest? I know within the last year I have gained over 10,000 points, but I know some of them I got before I even got on Live and those points do not reflect a date earned
since although you have a time stamp on the 360 it does not list when an achievement is earned unless you are loggen into Live.

I can understand if going forward for future contests they say for a specific year, but I would assume calander year should mean within last year of contest start date. Thoughts or if anyone knows exactly what this means or if I should be concerned that a lot of my achievement points at the moment are not date stamped because I have only been on Live since I belive September.

slop101 02-07-07 11:33 AM

Anyone know when Castlevania:SOTN is going to be available on Live?

Added.

For anyone that need a bit of help racking up that gamerscore, just ask. Hell with the right games, you could race from zero to nearly 10,000 before the 12th. This would be the easiest grouping:

1000 - NBA Live 06 - 2 Hours
1000 - Madden NFL 06 - 3 hours
1000 - King Kong (On Easy) - 4 Hours
1000 - NBA 2K6 - 30 minutes
1000 - College Hoop 2K6 - 30 minutes
1000 - NHL 2K6 - 1 hour
1000 - Major League 2K6 - 1 hour
1000 - Fifa road to world cup - 3 hours
1000 - Fight Night - 3 hours
790 - Amped 3 - 3 hours

9790 for about 21 hours of actual gametime there. There are plenty of others as well.

The way they describe this aspect of the contest seems intentionally vague. Like you mentioned, they say "Rewards Levels are based on how many Gamerscore you gain each calendar year." But they also say "After registering, you will automatically be placed into one of three Rewards Levels based on your current gamerscore." Do they mean your current overall score, or your score from 2/12/06 to 2/12/07? I could see them basing this first contest on total score and then using annual points as the basis for future promotions, but it could really go either way. They will be posting more detailed rules on Monday, but I think I'll shoot for 10,000 total points before then just in case.

Schloob1 02-07-07 12:34 PM

You are thinking the same way I am Gramps. I would think it will be for this time around whatever your score is right now. I wish I could do something like get a few more thousand to pad just in case but I already played 7 of the 10 that Flay has listed. More importantly I intend to save the 2 games I have coming in the mail probably today or tomorrow now for this contest to ensure I get it right away say by Tuesday night for sure.

I was able to get 4/5 achievements easily. It was the Penalty shot achievement that gave me a hard time, and I could never get the computer to check me on a breakaway.

Yes, 2 players is very quick. But it is very possible in single player, which is how I finally got mine.

After messing with the appropriate sliders, the trick is to put 2 of your guys in the penalty box first. The opposing team will usually crash the net with 4 guys, which makes breakaways incredibly simple. Took about 5 minutes after I set everything up correctly.

Schloob1 02-07-07 01:31 PM

The other way to do it is to place the sliders on the computer to as aggresive as possible. You want to then give your goalie the puck to force a face-off by your net. Win the face-off and go behind your net. Wait for a moment for the defenders to start coming after you and then turbo your way up the middle and you should cross right between 2 defenders at about center ice on their side and this is when you let off turbo but continue to push forward so they catch up to you and make sure you are in the act of shooting. I had tried for about 1.5 hours the 2 controller method by myself as people said they did it that way. I then found this method and did it in only 3 tries. Flay, your method sounds simillar but I did not have to mess with anyone in my penalty box at all.

DVDChris 02-07-07 01:43 PM

I tried doing some of these, but I couldn't figure out how to switch to the goalie with the second player and move him out of the way. The manual says hold the B button, but it never worked.

Big explanation of the Rewards program: http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Sto...726.htm?Page=1

We recently sat down with Kim Janzik, Director of Global Marketing for Xbox to find out more about the Old Spice Challenge and the potential future of the Xbox Live Rewards program.

Game Informer: I guess first off, let’s talk about the Old Spice Challenge. When is it kicking off, and what can gamers on Xbox Live win?

Kim Janzik: We’re kicking off the program on Feb.12, and overall what we’re doing is creating a challenge where our gamers can go and be acknowledged and be rewarded for their accomplishments with various opportunities and prizes. It’s a two-month challenge, and it is a trial program. In that time, there are basically two things. One: Everyone that completes the challenge is eligible to win some digital awards, which include a dash theme, gamer picture—those are things they can kind of use to show their place in the community and their accomplishments. There are limited rewards—roughly 70,000 of them across the community, which include things like a Live Arcade game, a limited number of Microsoft Points, a retail Xbox 360 game and a promotional T-shirt. Depending on where you are within your gaming performance and if you’re one of the first to complete the challenge, you’ll be eligible for those prizes.

GI: Looking at the levels and how everything breaks down, say hypothetically I already have 10,000 Gamerscore points. I still have to get another 1,500 points within that 60-day period to qualify for the prizes, right?

Janzik: That’s correct.

GI: You’re not guaranteed to get prizes if you get the 1,500 points? It’s going to be the first people to get those 1,500 points?

Janzik: That’s correct. So, you are guaranteed to win a dash theme and a gamer picture. What you are not guaranteed to win—unless you’re one of the first roughly 70,000 to complete the challenge—in those cases, that’s when you’re eligible for the Live Arcade game, the Microsoft points, the retail game and the shirt, depending on where you are with your experience.

GI: Do you take the Gamerscore where you start in the 60 days or when you finish after you’ve gotten the 1,500 points.

Janzik: It is where you start in the 60 days.

GI: So why do you think achievements and the Gamerscore are so popular?

Janzik: I think gamers like to show their rank within the community. I think they like to be acknowledged, frankly just within the community, and it is something where they can feel good about what they’ve done. That is gaming at its best, right? All the way back to the original 2D games, people were working to be on the arcade game high-score list. Achievements and Gamerscore are almost an evergreen score list across all the games on the platform. It’s just bringing that passion and that rank within the community to this platform and to this generation.

GI: The Old Spice Experience Challenge is a test bed for the Xbox Live Rewards program. If this works, will all these be sponsor driven, or could these originate from Microsoft.

Janzik: Depending on the results of the program, it could go either way. We’ll see how the results go. I do have a lot of interest in seeing this become successful. We could see this as something which is a challenge along the lines of charity, or a cause that would drive the community in that direction. We could see something that is more game specific, where we would partner with publishers to do rewards along those lines.

We’re just going out there—we’ve done some research and analysis and asked gamers how important it is to be recognized and rewarded beyond just the scores and gamers came back almost unanimously—it was 80-90% saying they wanted to dial up recognition and rewards. They wanted to show not just their gaming friends—which are what achievements and Gamerscore do—but also their extended family, their neighbors—they wanted to have even more to show for their accomplishments in gaming. This program is a trial to see if what they’re telling us can really come to life and extend that gaming accomplishment to the broader community.

GI: Hypothetically, how would this work in the case of charity? Would you spend your Gamerscore points, or have some sort of account, I guess?

Janzik: You could imagine, again, the theme of get these types of achievements or increase your Gamerscore in this time period and a certain amount of money will be sent to one of these three charities of your choice. I’m just hypothetically making something up. Or it could be, you and your friends together grow your Gamerscore, get this many achievements, and we’ll send something to certain charities in support of your gaming accomplishments.

GI: Are you thinking about fund-raising drives for schools?

Janzik: We’re thinking about a lot of different things, be it schools or various causes during certain times of the year, right? There are certain awareness months where we might tie into those. There’s a fair amount of flexibility there, and we would like to see this grow over time. The Old Spice Experience Challenge is the first trial to see how that goes, and depending on the success and what we learn from this program we’d like to go from there.

GI: Will the levels carry over to the next contest, and how well you did on this challenge be posted anywhere on your Gamer Card?

Janzik: The levels will carry over to the next contest, assuming we do have subsequent challenges. In fact, one of the rewards per se that you can earn out of the Old Spice Experience Challenge is if you do complete the challenge, and do complete the 1,500 Gamerscore achievement points in the two months, you’re automatically given a level bump to the next level, should there be a future challenge. So if you were in level 1 and you complete the challenge and we have another challenge after this, you’ll start at level 2 automatically just because you completed the first challenge.

GI: Now, if all of the prizes are gone, you’ll still retain your level?

Janzik: Yes, you will still retain your level. In regards to your question about the Gamer Card, your level will not appear on your Gamer Card initially.

GI: So, hypothetically, you said that you might work with specific publishers or just specific games, for that matter. Microsoft is releasing a potentially big hit later this year called Halo 3. What could you potentially envision basing this around Halo 3?

Janzik: (Laughs) Very good question. We’re not privy to certain achievements that might be built into that game, for example, but we would work with the studio to create a challenge around the appropriate achievement where certain gamers did get that achievement—whether it’s an early achievement or a later achievement, I don’t know, but they get a certain reward.

The great thing about this program is it does allow for a fair amount of flexibility to make it fun for the community and give gamers the ability to show off those accomplishments and build a lot of excitement around the games.

GI: Is this for gold members only?

Janzik: This is actually for any member. In this case, we wanted to open it up to the broader community and make it as inclusive as possible.

GI: Now that Vista has shipped, Microsoft is going to be doing Live for Vista and you’ll have one gamer tag across 360 and PC. Are you thinking about bringing this over to Vista as well if it’s successful?

Janzik: I think anything is possible. Assuming its successful, I’d love to see it grow into that Vista gaming arena.

Canis Firebrand 02-07-07 02:14 PM

Ahh.. so the free games are only going to the first people to complete the challenge. Hmm.. I'll have to get in some early sports games I never played to get my 1,500 after I register. I want a free game. :)

Michael Corvin 02-07-07 02:28 PM

I think this should be a perk for Gold members.

Flay 02-07-07 02:52 PM

All I know is that the 70,000 prizes are not going to last long, especially the portion of those alloted for Level 3 gamers. I'm guessing a few days, a week tops. Heck, there are over 44,000 gamers with at least 10K gamerscore according to mygamercard.

edstein 02-07-07 03:12 PM

Are these prizes really worth the cost of renting these crappy sports games and the time evolved? :hscratch:

Schloob1 02-07-07 03:14 PM

I am hopefully assuming we will be able to sign up for this at hopefully 12:01 EST perhaps? If so, I will hopefully be done with my 1500 points by Tuesday morning which SHOULD be soon enough. If I had not already played the 2K6 games I of course would be done an hour after signing up :) Like you said Flay, I doubt the main prize in Level 3 will last past a week for sure.

Schloob1 02-07-07 03:16 PM

Level 3 prizes have a retail value of roughly $70, not too shabby and if you already have a gamefly/gameznflix account it is a no-brainer. Would I have gone out to rent games at say a local video store, maybe not since that
would cost me about $10 assuming they have the quick 1000 point games in.

DJ_Longfellow 02-07-07 03:26 PM

I already played the 2K6 games, so I would be a bit screwed in this. Although, I don't have many achievements, I think it was 8455 gamerscore....I don't really care though. I'm sure I ca get some 2K7 ones though.

Probably not, but I'll do it anyway.

I have some "rent 1, get 1 free" coupons, so it won't cost much at all, but I'll agree that it's pretty silly.
