That all being said. I may still pick up the State in spite of myself because i miss that show so much.

Yes Halo 3 is very hyped right now. Did you miss that orchestration of info during Nov. & Dec. during the PS3 launch?
Look at EGM, during the month both the Wii & PS3 launched, the cover story was Halo 3. Explain that one. That was a brilliant move. And ever since there has been little tidbits here and there, online teasers, and the big commercial a few weeks back. Not to mention the frenzy to get in on the Halo 3 beta. Hell you are going to have TONS of people buying Crackdown just to get the beta code contained within. As well as trying the other 3 ways to get in.
The hype is definitely there.

I really dont like Halo but it did sell systems back then for the xbox and it was popular and widely played online. Even though I am not into the hype I may end up buying it on release if there is some kind of deal available.

well, i can understand the "hype" from halo 2. If you compared it to other console shooters, there really wasn't much to compare it too. Now-a-days, thats a completely different story

I don't think the hype is purely because it is a shooter.. It has a lot going for it that people like. The online aspect of playing against other people. The story through 3 games, multiple books, etc. It is much more then a game to many.
I'm not as fanatical about the whole Halo universe as some, but I definetly am hyped and looking forward to the 3rd game.

With all the CES fracas going on, I think this story fell through the cracks:
My guess is that the 2 million will be divided into tons of people, but who knows? BTW, that's $25,000 of marketplace points.
Discovery Channel giving away 2 million MS points

Two million points is quite a haul, and would just about allow you to pay for the horse armor in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. We keed, we keed! Seriously though, that's a lotta points just waiting to find their way home underneath your gamertag.
In conjunction with the new content they are sponsoring for Gears of War, the Discovery Channel is giving away the points through www.readyaimfire.com, and the site will only be up on January 13th and 14th, so you'd better be quick on your browser and sign in to find out how to qualify for the points.
While the Discovery Channel isn't the first company to give away points on Xbox Live, they are the first network/cable channel to do so. It's probably no coincidence that they're airing their Gamer Generation series while this contest is going on. Gamers, you all are a demographic that everyone wants a slice of, so brace yourselves.

I buy them for single player first and foremost. Multiplayer is a bonus.

i never felt the need to beat Halo 1 or 2. I thought it was pretty lack luster tbh. If you like it, thats cool and all. I tend to have a lot of friends over on a regular basis, and thats where the majority of game playing goes down in at my place.

I'm probabaly one of the few who's interested in finding out how this Halo arc will turn out. I want to find out why things that happened are happening. Who's this Flood Leader? I was also fascinated by the rebellion that occured in the Covenant, the Brute Takeover, and the alliance forged towards the end of the game between The Chief and the Heretic. I'll admit that I'm NOT looking forward to fighting The Brutes in Halo III and frankly, I've had assfull of The Flood. But since the "Flood Leader" is apparently up to something it looks like I'll have to deal with them too.

I never owned an Xbox, so when I got a 360, I picked up Halo and Halo 2. I started Halo but couldn't really get into it, so I traded it away. I still haven't tried Halo 2 other than a quick MP session. I suppose I'll try to play through it before #3 comes out. Hopefully I'll enjoy it more than the first game.

i honestly don't know a single person that bought Halo based on its "compelling story"
everyone i know how plays the game, bought it specifically for multiplayer applications

The Halo campaigns are fantastic fun in co-op.

I prefer my online games more like GOW, Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon.

I personally rate Halo and Halo2 as a 7 or 8 out of 10. They were just above average: Lots of repetition, fancy glowing projectile weapons, and the aliens were a lot less interesting than the Flood, but by then it became a kind of zombie game (but still a little flat as one).

Also, count me in as one who played Halo for the story first and got hooked into the mp due to these fellows on the board right here (well, particularly at 8BB but we started here). I have read all the books, the graphic novel, and followed the ilovebees ARG. I even have a friend trying to get me the autograph of one of the cloudmakers from the ARG - i'm that big of a nerd on the storyline.
Due to all of this i most likely will buy Crackdown for the beta invite even though i have no desire at all to play Crackdown. I'm just holding out hope it is at least a little amusing to play.
edit: clarified an awkward sentence

another forum i frequent talks a lot about the game that really has my interest. Im sure it will fall short of most peoples expectations, but I can actually get my girl to play GTA-esque games

$4.80/$3.60 for HD movie rentals is too expensive. $2.40 for TV episode purchase is too expensive. Especially considering that you are limited to playback on only the 360, and cannot be transferred for mobile playback.
