Official Xbox 360 thread 3.1

I just got a 360 for Christmas, so this dissapoints me a tad but isn't too big of a deal since it won't really affect my gaming. The only thing is the bigger hard drive, which i'm sure will be available seperately.
Wonder when it will be released? If it's not until 2008, I don't care that much.

Is there any chance MS will ever add a web browser to the XBOX360? That's all I'm looking for. My games look and sound awesome over component cable and digital audio so HDMI doesn't really do it for me. I don't download movies or tv shows...so the 120GB HD is nice...plus I'm already connected to my PC with 720GB of free space...so I don't need more space. What I really want is the ability to just sit back and pull up a webpage. I don't want to have to buy a seperate media center PC when the XBOX360 does everything I need a media center to do except surf the web. When MS releases that..then I'll think about an upgrade.

This was my reasoning for picking up an extended warranty on my Xbox 360 last month at Microcenter because the warranty for a "dead" unit simply gives you back money to buy another unit, and I would then just buy the latest Zephyr model. Also, since I'm a year away from replacing my older component video input-only HDTV set, I can live without the HDMI output from the new Zephyr model for the time being.

I've had my 360 for a year now, if they manage to release a new model with a price drop, I'd gladly sell it and pay a little extra for a new one.
I'm sure it's a ways off though.

Oh, that's a good point Patman. I too bought the Microcenter extended warranty but not for that reason. Mainly because I wanted to get a new unit back if something ever happened to the original rather than getting a refurb back from MS.
Hrmmm.... how does one put some stress on the console to *cough* break it *cough* without voiding the warranty?
I'm a little upset if this rumor turns out to be true and they don't offer a HDMI solution for the original units. I first bought my Sony SXRD 50" 1080p HDTV and then ran out and bought my 360 in Dec06. When that fall update came out I got all excited that I could take full advantage of 1080p until I realized my TV only supports 1080p via HDMI... doh!! So an HDMI solution is my only option.
I could care less about the expanded HDD since I don't download movies or TV shows and any demos I do download are usually deleted after a couple of weeks.
Only time will tell....

It is a space sci-fi RPG that looks very reminiscent of KOTOR. Release date is sometime this spring/summer.

According to industry sources, plans to produce CPUs for the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console on 65nm at Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing will be pushed back until the middle of 2007, at least one quarter behind the original schedule.
Microsoft Taiwan declined to comment on the news, while Chartered also declined to comment, stating it did not comment on the production schedule of any of its customers.
In April 2006, Chartered announced that it had signed an agreement with Microsoft to manufacture CPUs for the Xbox 360 console on 65nm Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) technology starting in the first quarter of 2007.
Chartered is already a major foundry partner for producing Microsoft's Xbox 360 CPUs on 90nm technology.

You can keep TV shows forever. Why offer all this shit in HD with no way to keep it. It takes me 4 hours to download a 50 min episode in HD.

There may be a 360 in my future as well. Unfortunately, FPS games don't do a thing for me, and they seem to be in abundance. Are any of the new crop as user friendly as...say...Goldeneye was. Gears of War looks amazing, but if the controls aren't intuitive, I'll just have to pass.
I was also interested in hearing Treasure's take on the Wii. I'd like to see them do a 2D top-down shmup using the Wiimote as a pointer and your ship as the cursor. I'm not sure how effective it would be in practice, but in principle, I like the possibility.

Treasure + Achievement Points = Badass.
I actually felt it was one of the more intuitive shooters to come out in sometime, it's basically three buttons (A (Action), Left Trigger (Aim), Right Trigger (Fire)) for most of the game. The A Button just happens to be really durable heh.
That said, it's tough to say, going back to Goldeneye for me is a chore, as the controls don't really make that much sense to me anymore.
I'm also getting a bit tired of FPS, so few offer anything new these days. When the hell are we getting some epic adventure games, like Crystalis 360.

Anyways, I already have a kickass PC so it's like why should go out and get a 360 when a majority of it's titles are available on PC? This why I've only really been a Nintendo/Sony supporter -- you don't see a good chunk of their games on the PC which makes owning their console worth it for me.

Eh, a new model. Boy I feel stupid, I just got done saying there would not be a hardware revision in another thread.
That said, my TV doesn't display that high nor does it have an HDMI port, so its pointless for me. One can figure that the 120 gig HD will be sold serperate.. One thing I do want is those cooler CPU's. Damn MS!

All these redesigns just make me want to hold off on buying any system when it first comes out anymore. I haven't bought any of the next gen systems yet, and I'm glad I've waited.
Seems like companies just purposely make the first model destined to be updated some time in the future.

I've been playing FEAR and the controls are pretty simple to learn. They have slo-mo which you definitely have to use defeat enemies, however, it's probably the easiest to use of any game that uses slo-mo.

I hear ya. It's like buying dvds when they come out only to hear that the "super duper deluxe 20 disc version" is being released down the line.
