Went through the first two cups last night. It's a shame that everything is already unlocked. There's nothing to strive for.

Strange about folks not liking Double Dash...I thought it was pretty much just like MK64 but without the muddy textures.
Was there something in particular about it that you guys didn't like?

Wait, I just remembered the big donut map . . . I guess they're about even, but block fortress is still the best imho.

I think Double Dash was superior in every way to MK64 except in the battle mode map level designs. The battle maps in DD were too small. But everything else, GP tracks, gameplay, weapons, etc. was better in DD.

MK64 > DD
- Tracks: I preferred the tracks in 64. The ones in DD seemed too wide and gave no sense of speed or even a challenge for competitors. You could easily slide past any competitor without fail.
- Hop: the hop is so much better than the slide in DD
- Battle mode
- Two characters was unecessary. Sure it changed things up, but it wasn't needed
- items: I didn't like the fact that only certain items could be picked up by certain characters
things I DID like in DD:
- powered up items. Nothing better than a giant banana
- overall feel. Controls were perfected, and the overall game was a lot more polished than 64.
- I liked the addition of new characters
Lastly, I know I am probably the ONLY one, but I did like the rubberband AI of 64. I loved how the last few place karts could grab a lightning bolt and make a run for it. It meant that to be number one you really have to be on your game. The lightning bolt was almost non-existent in DD.
DD is in no way a bad game, I just prefer 64. I sold DD for $30 to put towards the Wii, I might pick it back up when I can get it for under $10.

God, I can't wait for Goldeneye to become downloadable - and I hope, like MK64, everything is unlocked from the get-go, just because I remember what a pain in the ass it was to unlock everything on the cart.

I tried to play Goldeneye again recently, I actually hate the controls.
It made sense back then, not so much these days.

Goldeneye had different control schemes - the default scheme was pretty bad, so I never really used it, instead I used the one where you move with the "C" buttons, and look/aim with the analog stick (which you could also reverse) - which is pretty much the same exact controls used for FPS these days.

I mopped my buddies with this style until they decided to learn it. It was so much easier aiming at the head.

I prefer double dash as well. I don't get any of the complaints people make about it. MK
D > MKDS > MK64 > SNES MK
I pulled down MK64 though. The one thing they continue to screw up in the newer Mario Karts is the battle mode. MK64 had the best battle mode.

Its a toss up for me. I like both Mk64 and Double Dash. The jumping and all the glitches and shortcuts in MK64 are what make me love that game, jumping off the rainbow road and barely missing the track, or jumping over the wall in Wario Stadium right at the beginning cutting the lap by 3/4, what an experience. But I like the items, speed, and more characters in DD, and the mayhem all the items on the track involve. Luckily i have have them both on Wii now

yep. Hop over, backtrack just a bit so that you jump over before the finish line, drive through it and hop back. Repeat.
It is a LOT harder getting back but if you can, you will blow your friends mind. This was also about the time my friends wanted to stop playing MK64 with me.

I always preferred the one where you use two controllers, one in each hand, so you could use analog sticks for both movement and aiming. Good times...
