Ya, that's how I got Mario (and there was tax).

I got the 2000 pts for $13.30ish shipped with another DVD and the $20 off $50.

I've heard most European/non-US gamers aren't that happy with their version of the VC, most games are the bordered, slow PAL releases. However, Mario 64 in Europe will be the US version (I guess the only difference is the speed and full screen).

I'm really shocked that so many are buying the VC games. When I get a Wii I just can't see spending $5-$10 for straight ROM dumps. These things are just too easily available already and with the changes to the DMCA I'm not sure its still 100% clear to call PC, Xbox, PSP, etc emulators illegal (well I guess those are not, but having the ROMs is).

Hopefully, Nintendo will start adding some things to make the purchase worthwhile or digging deeper in the catalog for many games never released to the US before. Brand new VC content would be excellent as well.

I hope the emulators are not illegal. I hope having backup ROMs is not illegal.

But don't kid yourself. Downloading ROMs for games you don't have is illegal.

I feel more motivated to play and beat a game if I drop money on it.

This I agree on. I have bought several of those classic comp disc and that is a motivating factor. However, I also like the bonus stuff they include on ones like the Capcom Collection or the Mega Man Collection. Not to mention you get a bunch of games for $20.

I would love a subscription service similar to Gametap on one of the game consoles. Rotational games, so you have to buy the ones you want to keep, but with a solid all around selection.

That would be excellent. I have a year subscription to GameTap and its mainly because of the NeoGeo games and Sam and Max.

A $10 a month VC game service would be excellent.

So far I've gotten:
  • Solomon's Key
  • Zelda
  • Sim City
  • Bomberman '93
  • Bonk's Adventure
  • Ristar

Except for Zelda, I don't own any of these on their original systems. I remember playing Solomon's Key back in the day and enjoying it. Same with Bonk. I bought Sim City and Ristar because of positive reviews, and Bomberman '93 since I've enjoyed other Bomberman games and never played '93. Zelda was just a convenience thing - I own the game and a NES, but it's not in the living room. If I had to pick one game to recommend, it would be Ristar. Having a great time with that one.

I'm also looking forward to Toe Jam and Earl and Alien Crush.

Definitely getting Alien Crush, maybe Mean Bean Machine too. I've got Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis already, so I think I'll pass on that, even though it's a classic.

Alien Crush is a damn fine game.. but it's like Super Star Solider in that there was a MUCH improved sequel released on the system. Still, it's one of the best video pinball games ever. And Gunstar Heroes, what more can be said.. THE best game on Sega Genesis. I already have it for PS2 (and Genesis) though.

I was dead set against this idea when it was thrown around months ago, but with the prices they have chosen I think I may change my mind. The pricing doesn't scream out "buy me" to games you know nothing about or on the fence about.

Also, considering the library of games it would be much nicer to try out a handful a month because it will be highly unlikely that I would play any of these all the way to the end anyway.

It is something to be proud of. It is a really nice re-design of the VGTalk site.

I have not made any VC purchases yet, but I do plan on getting:

Gunstar Heroes - gotta love co-op gameplay
Bomberman '93 - 5 players!

Gunstar Heroes is exactly how I remembered it.

It's funny, I'm not really a fan of shooting games but the excellent boss stage design, weapon combos (I prefer double homing laser myself), and two-player gameplay won be over back then, at 12. My right thumb was almost permanently pressing the fire B button. Why? Because it feels GOOD!

I wasn't too thrilled about paying 14% tax on my Wii Points though.

Wait, so they charge tax when you buy the points online?

I think they only can charge tax in places where they have a physical presence. For example, where they have a store or wherehouse.

There are also some states that require tax on online purchases now.

I had no tax on mine, and I tend to get taxed when I order stuff online (Maryland).

I was surprised because I'm in Toronto, Canada. I didn't know Nintendo of America had a physical presence in Ontario. I thought it was on the west coast, in BC for some reason.
