I'm not all that impressed. The price of the system doesn't bother me so much (You do get a next-gen DVD player, multiple-os supporting system, free online play, etc; ) but it just doesn't seem polished, and I think having a 360 for the last year has stolen a lot of the visual luster of the system.
That and I have a 30" HDTV, and the Bluray player really isn't a big improvement on it (From where i'm sitting at least.)
I mean, if I had skipped the 360 all together, I would be ecstatic with the system and the scarse though present upcoming titles. But as of right now, I think I'm just gonna sell the thing and stick it out with the other guys for another year.

I could own say a Wii and a 360, but not a PS3 and a 360. I will probably end up buying whatever system I get rid of down the line. The 360 will probably have a price drop faster then the PS3.

Also, 360 definitely has more good games now and for the foreseeable future, but the PS3 isn't so bad, especially Resistance. Fight Night Round 3 comes out next week and looks amazing. By March or so when the European launch is scheduled, there should be plenty of awesome games. So it depends on how patient you are. There aren't going to be as many exclusive titles for this generation of consoles, but there are a few. The 360 has Halo and GOW, among others, while the PS3 will have Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy, among others. Check out some of the upcoming titles and see which ones interest you.
Finally, does HD-DVD or Blu-Ray interest you? I know a lot of people downplay the BR capability of the PS3, but after you watch a couple of movies with it, it is a pretty awesome format. Of course, the 360 has the HD-DVD player available separately, if you decide you want to try it out. HD-DVD has better movies right now, but now that more BR players are hitting the market, that should even out.
Don't know if this was much help, I think it really comes down to what kind of games do you like to play, and which console will have more of those type of games. I'm not much of a shooter kind of guy, and it seems that the 360's best games are shooters, so that's why I went with the PS3. Plus, I had a PS2 instead of an XBox, so the backwards compatibility helped sway me.

It reminded me of the old days when I had webtv. That, and the Blu-Ray looks good. The controller was nice and responsive in the demos. I only have five 360 games, three of which I haven't played in over a month, so maybe it's time for change.

People are already getting premium 360's for about $300 Thats probably the best deal for awhile.
honestly it seems like a no brainer--Why would you want a PS3 now? Theres not many games and the price will go down by the time better games come out. As it is, you've paid $600 to watch blu ray and play perhaps 2 games. (the games that are already out for xbox will be cheaper too). If you need HD, HD-DVDs are just as good if not better than the current Blu Ray anyway. But if you're pinching pennies, you probably dont want to start collecting HD movies of any sort yet.

The most titles were Xbox 360 exclusives. After that, it was titles that the PS3 and the Xbox 360 shared. Then it was PS3 exclusives. After that, it was Wii titles. And last were titles out on each system.
According to this chart, if you limit yourself to two systems, you get the most games with a 360 and a PS3, then with a 360 and a Wii, and the least with a PS3 and a Wii.
I still think the best next-gen console this season is a 360. It's a no brainer. Next year, once you have a 360, it's probably worthwhile to get a PS3 and/or a Wii. The big plus is that more software will be adequately priced.
Right now a lot of great 360 games (Condemned, Amped 3, Gun, Test Drive Unlimited, PGR3) are $40 or less. Only 1 Wii game is under $40. No PS3 games are under $40. Play the 360 now, then jump in once a lot of "Greatest Hit" games come out for the other consoles.
We may see a small price drop in the 360 next year (or a bundle or a 360 with a built-in HD DVD). But that won't be the case for the PS3. Sony's price drop will be in Spring of 2008, like it's done every year.

Use something like this: Netgear WGE111
It's what I have and works great. Seems to get a better signal than a USB adapter. DLink and Linksys sell something similar. Actually, any wireless bridge should do. Just make sure to search around online for the best price.

Gran Turismo HD will be a free download on Christmas Eve, the 24th.
They are scrapping the game in favor of GT5, so it looks like they are releasing a tech demo. There is no online play integrated into the demo.

Here's an article I never thought I'd see (was reserved for nintendo in the past).
Sony going the way of Sega?
I think it's just as much doom and gloom bullshit as the Nintendo stuff was in the past, but interesting to see the tables turned.

It also reminds me of the doomsayers that have been claiming that PC gaming is going to die for the last 10 years.
The only way there will not be a PS4 is if the PS3 just completely and utterly bombs, and that is very unlikely to happen. Sure it is going to sell way less than the PS2 did, but it isn't going to be a failure.
Even still, it took Sega a whole string of console failures to get out of the hardware market (SegaCD to 32X to Saturn to Dreamcast). Even if the PS3 does bomb, one console failure probably won't mean death to Sony. Hell, even Nintendo has had a couple failures; the N64 is considered a failure and the Virtual Boy was a gigantic failure, and Nintendo is still alive and kicking.

I dont think playstation will go away until Sony does. What is more likely is that they cut their losses on the PS3 skip a generation and come back in 7 years or so in the middle of an Xbox cycle with a stronger product (called something different).

I passed on a chance to buy a 20g ps3 today at Wal-Mart. apparently a lot of Wal-Marts got stock today but they aren't putting them out. You have to ask the clerk.

I finally got a 60G version!!! Hazza!!! And I get it home and open the bag (I know, shoulda, woulda, coulda) and there is a major rip/hole in the box on the bottom!!!! And when you feel inside, I think there might be damage to the PS3. EBG obviously is sold out, and the only thing I could do there is return it. I don't want to RETURN it, I want to exchange it! So I am on the phone with Sony, hoping against hope they can help me. Some pics of the travesty.

Can you not take it to EB Games, and make them open it up and test it out. They return it and give you your money back if it is damaged, you keep it if it works?
Or are you planning on Ebaying it in which case that isn't an option?

(side question: how many things can you sell on Ebay before they start making you pay more? Some one I know also got a 20G, and now want to flip it on Ebay. The only problem they have is they don't have an Ebay acount. So they said they would split what ever is made on Ebay with me. They have delusions of riches, and I tried to impress on them they aren't going to get much after fees and shipping, but they are insistent. Will they allow me to sell another PS3?)
Anyway, I want to keep the 60G now, but even if it works right off the bat, it must of taken a hell of a fall/hit for this to happen (you can feel the indentation that this caused on the PS3 itself. At the very least there is major cosmetic damage) and if I am going to drop $600 on something, I want it in the best condition I can get. Sony said that they have to 'review' this incident and have advanced tech support call me back (I guess the lower tech support isn't familiar with cardboard boxes) with an answer on if they are going to help me out.

If you can feel cosmetic damage to the unit dont even try to ebay it without stating all the details and then you'll take a hit on how much youll make in profit--perhaps a loss even.
I wouldnt feel comfortable using a device that took such a shock.
