I nabbed a bare-bones 20GB for only a $50 premium which will arrive on Monday, but if you dont mind going bundle, Gamestop has them back on preorder for shipment in early January.

Wow, that was a mess with the backwards compatible issue. I was thinking of getting some PS2 games I never played...like God of War and Bully. Oh well...I'll pass.

You know what I thought of.. could this be more of a 4x3 to 16x9 issue? The "jaggies" kind of look like they're just horizontally distorted. Either way, it'll be interesting to see where this goes. Of course, I'll probably still have to keep a PS2 regardless and I'm sure firmware will make a modchip or any kind of region free solution (swap discs, etc.) a bitch.

Some better info about it on the playstation forums...

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...cending&page=1

Seems to only affect some games or some TV's? Weird. That or people just aren't noticing it.

Read most of that thread. It seems to affect some games (non progressive scan games) and all TVs, but it's much less noticeable on lower resolution screens.

As I've been playing FFXII on my PS3, I'm curious to try it out at home. I did notice some vertical lines while playing, but I attributed it to using an HDMI cable with the PS3... now I'll have to make sure. When you see side by side comparison shots, it really becomes clear...

If that is in fact actual gameplay then I would say Wow!

However I don't see speedometers or timers on the screens, and if they are actual shots from a TV then we should see those right?

Holy shit that looks good!! Does the game have a replay mode like GT/PGR and other racers? If so my guess would be the screenshots came from that, it would answer the question of why no timer or speedometer.

Some things to look forward to on the playstation 3 from Phil Harrison. Including a lot of news about Europe's Launch.

http://z7.invisionfree.com/PS3_Gamin...topic=59&st=30

Right where do I start.
ok.
Not all these questions were answered by Phil himself nor are they written in stone.

PS3 is well into production for thr UK launch.

The price is not set yet but £329-£349 20 Gig and £379-£399 have been mooted. (nothing is confirmed yet or if we'll even see the 20 Gig at launch)

A firmware update is being worked on to let us muti task while downloading and chat while multi tasking.

We will be able to buy music and video very soon from the store.

The Store. (I liked this bit) So people don't get bogged down with loads of stuff in the store that they don't want, each game will have it's own store that supports DL Content.
So in other words, you pop in F1 or Warhawk and click on the store and the store opens up like normal but full of Warhawk, F1, Singstar etc stuff to choose from. This is a great idea. Yeah it's been shoen before but now it's more clear how it will work.

A "gift" will be included with the Euro PS3. (this is "Top Secret Agent" and the time is 007. ) If it comes out in time. Something else if not. But a gift of some sort is on the cards.

ALL the developers are finishing off there games for a target 1st Q March launch.

Motorstorm WILL be the star at launch, you can take that to the bank. We played new stuff on it, new tracks, and the mud, wow.

Sleeping arcade game giant??? Calling All Cars. What a laugh. Like Micro Machines crossed with Twisted Metal. Online modes included.

I-Pods will conect direct. We saw a demo of this.

They also showed us new stuff for the music and films but they are nice little touches that we'll let you mess about with when you get your PS3's.

F1 will have the option to use the PSP as a wing mirror.(it went very quiet after E3)

Phil was asked what he thought was the best game outside of the Sony Playstation world. He looked at the floor for a few seconds and then said.................Nintendogs. (my bro will be made up with that. )

He also confirmed that the GTHD Download that goes Live in the store on Christmas Eve (nice touch) will be 100% FREE and we will have free updates over 12 months until GT5 comes out.

When I think of other stuff I'll post up.

I will point out again that NOTHING, unless we saw it, is written in stone.

Pre Order Motorstorm now.

Oh and RFOM will be sorted very soon for all us HK PS3 owners. (online)

Thanks Again lads.

Sony's Phil Harrison hints at future PS3 Firmware Features

Big Phil of Sony recently hinted at some new PS3 firmware features in the pipeline. New XMB options are on the menu with Tivo like features being prepared for next year.

According to the attendee, XMB multi-tasking (to what extent, however, is unknown -- can we browse the Internet while downloading a demo?), new XMB display options (a fix for the scaling issues?), new animations for audio playback, new photo album options, PlayStation Store auto-resume and a PSP Remote Access option to access PS3 content via any Internet connection are all on the table.

Sony also plans to incorporate Tivo-like features into the machine sometime in the late summer/early fall of next year.

There were also hints about the impending European launch, which may occur on March 3rd, 2007, if the attendee interpreted Harrison's suggestions correctly. Additionally, gamers shouldn't expect to see many (if any) 20GB models available overseas, a decision we'd speculate is due to the desire to take advantage of a slow production line by maximizing profits.

So to sum it up...

Things to look forward too.
1. Possible price drop for the European launch.
2. Europe gets James Bond we got Ricky Bobby.
3. Firmware Update to allow us to multitask while downloading/chatting.
4. We will be able to buy Music and Movies online
5. Ipod will connect directly
6. Free GTHD with updates (New cars and tracks?) over a 12 month period.
7. New XMB display options
8. New audio playback animations
9. New Photo album options
10. A Playstation store auto-resume feature when downloading
11. Tivo-like features sometime during the summer/fall

I just hope they more the online aspect more like XBOX Live. Background downloading is a necessity. No one wants to sit and wait for something to download, especially since it took me 2 hours to D/L a demo.

The FREE GTHD is nice....free is good. Motorstorm looks nice also...I may have to get that.

So, the US launch of MotorStorm is March?

I was just listing to the latest episode of Twitch Asylum podcast and they have the best ps3 launch story/discussion out of the podcasts I listen too. Great articulation and fun to listen too. I wasn't at any of the launches and was pretty cool to get a feel for being there.

I made that same point to a friend of mine. I don't doubt that this type of detail can't be done (as anyone who's played the prettier 360 games can attest), but it is odd to see the Temperature, Time, and Position only on one screen (the one that's not even impressive).

This is definitely being played on a TV. But I don't know if it's a CGI intro for the game.

I sent an email to a friend of mine with a J-PS3 asking him if he played Motorstorm yet.

so I just got my copy of Full Auto 2 and am having issues with online play. I am being told that I am behind a strict NAT which is causing me to not be able to connect to other players. I have tried many times before to get around this for torrents with no luck so I guess I am kinda screwed here.

I walked into a Walmart near me and they had two! PS3 20G in their display case. And you know what every one in that department was asking? "Did you get any Wii's in?" It is kinda nice, though. Since everyone else is asking about the Wii's where ever I go, I don't have to ask myself. Just do a little eavesdropping.

I was just at Walmart too, and they also had two core PS3s sitting in the display case. Could this be a bad sign for Sony? When the PS2 launched it was at least half a year before you could just walk into a store and see one sitting on shelves. It's been barely a month since the PS3 launched, and there are already sightings of them sitting on store shelves. It's even more worrisome when you realize we are in the busiest shopping time of the year with Christmas right around the corner.

I wouldn't be too worried... the PS3 is so much more expensive that it's not as much of an impulse buy as the PS2 was, or the Wii is (if you're not in the market for a PS3 and you happen to see it in a store, it's a pretty big deal to spend 600+ on it right then and there). I doubt these things sit on the shelf for too long...

I just got my call from Game Crzy. I was #43 on the preorder list for a PS3 and they have one for me. Unfortunately, I'm passing for now having just got a 360 instead. I'll pick up a PS3 in a year or two when the kinks have been worked out and there are deals to be had. Still I never thought that I'd be able to get one before Xmas. Wow, there must have been a lot of "pass" responses or a large shipment like Sony had promised.

So, anyone buy any of the D/L games? I tried the Gun Chaos Money one and it seems ok...a glorified Smash TV basically. Is Lemmings worth the $6?
