An Xbox attachment like that would be pretty sweet, but I doubt it will ever happen. I thought the reason they didn't include the Xbox graphics chip in the 360 (and why they stopped producing original Xboxes all together) was because they didn't want to keep paying royalties to Nvidia? If MS makes some kind of Xbox attachment, wouldn't they have to strike up a new contract with Nvidia?

It's interesting that a company owned by Microsoft would be going against the wishes of it's parent company.

'Jury is still out' on downloadable content, says Rare

Viva Piñata developer waiting for proven success before committing
Viva Pinata developer Rare has told GamesIndustry.biz it's reluctant to develop more downloadable content for the game until there's a clear demand.
Although the developer has released some content for previous titles, and has supported the release of Viva Piñata in the US with a modest amount of material, the studio is unsure of committing manpower to developing new material for its projects.
"We've got plenty of ideas for what we can do with downloadable content because Piñata is such a unique game," said Gregg Mayles, lead designer at Rare. "But the jury is still out."
"It's almost pointless doing a huge amount of work at this point because if it's not going to be successful you may as well put that effort into making a new game," he added.
Although Rare supported launch title Kameo: Elements of Power with new material, production director Simon Farmer doesn't feel the uptake of content was any indication of the potential market.
"There was a reasonable take-up on the free content, but the rest of it was reasonably limited," commented Farmer.
"That was probably because the initial purchases of the 360 were the hardcore fans who perhaps wouldn't have been drawn to Kameo, so were less likely to download that premium content."
"For Rare that wasn't a good way of gauging the market, as far as I'm concerned," he added. "From our perspective it's all relatively new to us because we've always been cartridge based. We don't know what the best possible model is for us."
However, the team does still see the potential of Xbox Live and the push for downloadable content, with Viva Piñata offering interaction between players over the service.
"That vision of sending Piñata to each other was around before Xbox Live even existed. That's why [Viva Piñata] began life on a handheld PDA device because we wanted one machine that could communicate with another," revealed Mayles.
Farmer added that the content Rare would like to create would have to be value for money from the consumers perspective, and he's willing to observe other developers to see which methods yield the best results.
"There's no way we're going to be in a position where we feel like we're ripping the consumer off. We'll have to look at it, and how it pans out with the other games on 360," he said.
Microsoft, which bought Rare back in 2002 for US $375 million, sees downloadable content as key to extending a games' shelf life, and pushes the concept as a crucial component of the Xbox 360 experience.
The full interview with Rare will be published on GamesIndustry.biz this Friday.

I think a cheap add-on is the best idea for back-compat that anyone has ever suggested. Since MS doesn't manufacture the original box anymore, I would bite for the price of a game.
As for Double Dragon, is it the original arcade game or one of the home versions of the game?

Just go and buy an Xbox. You can get them for $60-$90.

I for one don't want another addon for back compat. I just want them to keep working on the back compat list, until it's complete (think psychonauts).

Lucasarts says KOTOR franchise will continue
Could you imagine if they used the Mass Effect engine for KOTOR3? That would be fricking beautiful. When I actually saw the first Mass Effect gameplay videos, my first impressions where that it looked like KOTOR without the Star Wars license.
Not sure how I missed this one last week. All that turkey and football must have conspired with the dark side to cloud my awareness of all things Star Wars. In an interview with Next Generation's Colin Campbell, LucasArts VP Nancy MacIntyre mapped out her company's plans to continue delivering Star Wars goodness to Force-sensitive geeks like me over the next few years.
"Our fans want a logical progression of the Star Wars story line, so we are committed to only two Star Wars experiences a year," says MacIntyre. This must be a new policy moving forward because there have been no fewer than 25 Star Wars titles released in the past seven years (not counting handhelds), and at least one of those games had some serious continuity problems.
Still, the best news is the continuation of an old favorite, as MacIntyre confirms: "We've also got Star Wars franchises like Knights of the Old Republic ... that we will not leave behind. It's very important to us that we grow those franchises." It's important to us too, Nancy! The big question now is, will Obsidian return to helm the Ebon Hawk? Feargus Urquhart indicated earlier this year they would be happy to work on KoTOR 3, but whomever LucasArts selects, let's hope enough time is allocated to finish the next installment properly.

Yay!!! I was starting to lose hope of another KOTOR, now there's a New Hope....
When I was playing the beautiful Gears of War, all I could think of is how it would be neat if they used the Unreal 2k7 engine to make the new KOTOR game.

Hmmm... I was just looking on the wikipedia page for the Unreal Engine. According to this, Gears of War and Mass Effect both use the Unreal Engine 3.

It would look awesome. I would love to see a new STAR WAR: Battlefront with the same engine. That would kick all kinds of ass.

Well, just got my 360 tonight. Took me forever to set up, mostly because of the updates required to the PC to get the media center up and running. Now that it's functional and I can watch slide shows with my music playing, I'm pretty impressed. Very cool feature actually. I don't know if I'd have spent so long in the set up if I were able to actually play games, but Buy.com is nowhere near as speedy as Overstock.com. Maybe I'll fire up that BK Bumper car game. It's embarrassing, but that's the only game I have right now for the 360.
One funny thing : When I took it out of the box, my wife's first complaint "Oh, it's WHITE! It doesn't match the other components!" I never thought I'd give a rat's ass about the faceplates, but damned if I didn't order a silver one tonight.

Quick question: To play your music during a game, do you have to rip it to your hard drive or can you stream it from your computer, because I didn't see that option on my dashboard.

You can also put music on those USB thumb drives and play the music from the USB ports on the 360.

Yeah I'm shocked at how hard it is to find a plain black faceplate and black skin. Everyone has silver and all kinds of patterns.

Dashboard Update (aka the 1080p fix)
The next time you sign into Xbox Live, you’ll be prompted for a dashboard update. The update contains:
* Improved support for HD video output over VGA, including 1080p resolution
* Improved plug and play performance for wired headsets when being used with wireless controllers
* Changes made to recently played games list to improve accuracy
This update is being rolled out across the world, so you may not get it exactly at this moment, so be patient.

Thanks, was wondering what that update was about when I logged on this morning.
