So I called the local Walmart (not a 24 hour store), and they're not opening at midnight, despite the Walmart ad that came in the paper last week that said otherwise. Then I called the closest 24 hour Walmart, and the woman who answered said that they would start letting people line up in the Layaway Area at 7 AM on Saturday. They couldn't tell me how many systems they would be getting in, so I don't think I'll end up waiting there after all. Luckily I live 15 minutes from one of the few Toys R Us stores that is doing a midnight launch, so that's where I'm going to camp. They said they'd be gettin 100 systems, but I don't know when I should show up. Since it's so close by, I guess I'll start checking it out in the early afternoon and just hop in line whenever one forms. I've never done at outdoor camp-out for a game system before. The closest I came was waiting indoors at a 24 hour Walmart a few hours before midnight at the Gamecube launch. I'm prepared though - I've got a comfy folding chair, a blanket, a DS and a PSP, an iPod, a big Thermos to fill with coffee, and some sammiches. It should be a fun time - depending on your definition of "fun".
Edit: One other funny thing - when I called the 24 hour Walmart and asked about the Wii, the woman started talking about lining up on the morning of the 16th and she warned me that it costs $600. She wouldn't let me a get a word in, but I finally got her to realize that I was asking about the Nintendo Wii, not the PS3. I assume that they were just getting tons of calls about the PS3 and she just started talking about the PS3 out of force of habit.

Eh. There are like 30 launch games, expected units of 4 million hardware by years end. Thats a lot software to make.
Anyway, I'm sure there will be plenty of copies around.

Yeah that date doesn't make sense. Orders are showing up as backordered though.
One guy said "All orders past #900 or so are backordered until the 25th", so maybe some of you will get lucky. After the GC component mess, you'd think they would have figured out that the demand would be big. Ugh.

I assume they mean either 3450900 or 3451900. Either way, I'm screwed, since I'm over 3452000. The order status seems like it is probably accurate, so check that.

what kind of launch doesn't include component (or anything other than composite) with it? Nintendo should know better than this. $42 bones for a cable that should be included to begin with and now it won't be shipped any time soon? This is retarded.

Just to provide another data point for this component cable situation, my order number is 34510xx and my status is currently "Preparing Order". I can live with composite for a little while if need be, but hopefully this order will go through.

"Let's see. We sold 4,000,000 consoles and only 1,000 component cables. According to my preliminary research here, even less people are using component this generation than last. It's gone from 1% to .025%."
