I hope that most Sony fans are careful with their launch purchases and leave crud like this on the shelf where it belongs. Send a clear message to the game publishers.

I hope all these people buying PS3's for resale on ebay are remembering to claim the gain on their tax returns. I would hate to see the IRS crackdown on them.

Of course I agree, what's important is what's out now, and what will be out in the near future, not what other consoles may have had 1 year ago.

I really they would have done a part 3 with an online mode.. form your own gangs and have street battles tagging other gangs turf and such. Man.. I loved that game. I think they screwed up putting it on Xbox personally.. here's hoping that Sega sees the potential of using the Wii remote as a can of spray paint.

From the latest EBGames newsletter:
So, they don't have enough to fill pre-orders, but they've got enough to sell them online in crazy $1000 bundles? Way to fucking go, GameStop/EB!
Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, PS3
PS3 Turns out at least one of these may be real. Friday evening, we will have a limited quantity of PlayStation 3 20 Gig HD bundles available for online pre-order. Each bundle will include an extra wireless controller, six games, a one-year product replacement plan, a 12 month subscription to Game Informer and a Resistance: Fall of Man guide. The price will be $994.28 plus tax and handling. We expect these bundles to ship on or before December 1.

Yeah, i'm done with those guys. I'd rather keep my games than trade them in there to support that kind of shit. I have no problem with a game and a controller bundle, but that is ludicrous.

BTW, the Costco.com thing went down early. They put a "Sold Out" sign on the front page in less than 2 minutes.

At the Best Buy electronics store in South Austin, the launch of the long-awaited Sony PlayStation 3 video game console was over in 16 minutes Friday morning.
Thirty-four customers, many of whom had camped out at the store for two days, walked through the store doors at 8 a.m. and by 8:16 they had bought all 34 game consoles the store had in stock.
That was longer than it took at other Austin stores that had only a handful of systems for sale.
Sony Corp., beset by component shortages for the pricey game player, was expected to ship only 400,000 to the United States and Canada for the North American launch Friday.
The company promised another 700,000 or so additional boxes would be shipped to stores before Christmas.
The PS3 is estimated to have roughly 1,000 times the computing power of PlayStation 2, which was introduced six years ago. The Cell Broadband Processor, which commands the console, was designed in Austin by engineers and researchers from Sony, Toshiba Corp. and IBM Corp.
Most of the buyers were already making plans to resell their purchases on the Internet for $3,000 and up. The consoles retail for $500 for the basic model with a 20-gigabyte hard drive and $600 for the 60-gigabyte version with built-in wireless.
"The average price on e-Bay is $3,000," said 21-year-old Ian Pape. "I am probably going to take it up to $4,000. It depends. If Sony can ship out more units, I will sell it earlier. If they can't get their act together, then I will wait for the most desperate parent I can find."
Pape, who had camped out at the store since Wednesday afternoon, said he was heading home for a long shower and a nap on his couch.
At the Best Buy in Research Boulevard near the Arboretum, one enterprising man sold his place in line — he was 16th — for $1,000.

I hope these people wait too long and do not make much money off the sale. I wonder how many of the deals will close at 3000. What a waste of money.

I wonder if the person he sold it to actually wanted the system? Because if he was doing it for scalping that's insane... an extra grand in the hole before you can even start claiming profits? The risk/reward just isn't balanced there.

And this auction cracked me up...

Maybe it's unused, but the box has clearly been opened.

Up for bids is a NEW AND UNOPENED 60GB Sony Playstation 3 console, scheduled to be released 11/17/2006. Once these launch units are sold out, there is no guarantee from ANY retail store that they will be recieving anymore before MARCH. I waited at a local EB Games location about five weeks ago to be able to get a hold of a pre-order, was 1st in line, and now is your chance to purchase it!
This auction includes the NEW AND UNOPENED 60GB Sony Playstation 3 console, all of its original accessories, and a bonus copy of the BlueRay disc movie, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

The PS3 is clearly much more powerful than the PS2 for sure, but 1000 times more powerful?? Yeah right.
