Yeah, but it's still kind of fucked up.

well, since they only had pre-order sales for 1 day, it makes sense that if they bumped me off the list illegally (according to their corporate office) that really, the only person who could take my slot is someone from that store, like an employee.

I had slot 7 of 16, so there's a VERY good chance (id say about 90% or above) that if they wouldn't have messed up, it would be a done deal.

You should have asked for the assistant to the regional manager.

But your receipt should say it does NOT guarantee you a system on launch day. Mine sure does.

no, i remember laughing quite a bit...

L&O : that's what the corporate manager informed us. At this point I can't trust anymore farther than I can throw them, but it seems to be better news than leaving 6 messages for a district manager that has no desire to even return one of them

I'm pretty sure that is a picture of the line in front of the Sonystyle store in NYC, they have promised 400 PS3's for sale there. The line is way longer than that, it goes up the block and onto the next block I believe.

They're not.

Neither will the PS3 be dead when its successor comes out 2010-2012.

The Atari 2600 had a 15-year lifespan as it was supported until 1992. The Neo-Geo AES had support until 2004 (fourteen years). The NES was supported in Japan for twenty years.

Ten years doesn't seem out of the question. Sony is still going to be selling new PS2s next year.
Eh, I guess it depends on how you look at "lifespan." Sure the console might be around, and sure a few new games might trickle out for the console, but personally I think when they stop making AAA titles, the console's lifespan might as well be up.

For instance, the XBox. Sure there are a couple new games coming out that are multiplatform, but it's pretty clear the console is on its last legs.

PS2 is a little different though, with killer games still coming out this year and into next year.

Out of the top 15-20(all over about $1500) 5 or so have bidders with fewer than 5 feedback. I doubt those will go through. 2 others have bids from the same guy. Another unlikely to go through.

if you click on that first playstation 3 link on the main page, it will link you to an up-to date list of auctions. I believe they pay a little extra for the "featured items"

This thing is going to sell for $1500+ on eBay, no problem.

We all know Sony won't be able keep up with demand through Xmas, and there are a lot of gullible/desperate/rich people out there.

When I was out for lunch we could see a small Circuit City from the highway and there were at least 3 or 4 tents and a line of people out front. Insanity.

Likely filled with people planning on eBaying them, not to keep!

The more I think about this, the more I'm convinced that the eBay market is not gonna be as profitable as people think. Maybe at first, then the demand will die down a bit until we get real close to XMas.

So the 360 had 326,000 at launch in the US...what do you suppose the actual PS3 numbers are? 150,000? 200,000?

Last year:

Best Buy had 40 360's
Circuit City 26
Fred Meyer 8 (3 local stores..NW chain, think smaller Target..I only checked 1 store)

This year:

Best Buy 8 PS3s
Circuit City ?
Fred Meyer 4 (only one store is getting any)

From the sounds of it EB/GS didn't get as many PS3s as 360s either
(not to mention Gamerush not getting any PS3s)

thats half the reason they are going for that much. There's little or no hope of getting another shipment before christmas (no definite information) and many people feel if they want one, they have to get it NOW

That's funny I just sold mine for 3188.72. Hope you didn't buy mine.

No seriously that's an outragious amount. I put my first 360 on ebay to help pay for the 360 I have now and made only 200 after paying fees, extra. I was hoping to pick up a PS3 and do the same.

Which isn't so hot for those waiting in line. Even 10 hours in line drops that profit to $40 an hour, and most are going to have to wait longer than that in line, plus spend time listing it, communicating with the purchaser, shipping it out etc.

Maybe semi-worthwhile for college kids or the unemployed, but doesn't seem worth the effort for people with real jobs and income.

I was going to say it would be more worthwhile for those that preordered, but there were overnight lines for preorders as well, though not as long as these current lines.

I got this from another forum.

As an aside, we (UPS' Air Hub here in Louisville) had 172,900 PS3s come through our sort last night for delivery to Walmarts, Targets, Best Buys, TRUs, Circuit Cities, etc. this afternoon. We figured out "eBay value" for each trailer load of them at just under $4,000,000. Yep, four million dollars. A lot of precautions being taken on these.....They were transported in plain, non-UPS trailers from the logistics facility to the sort.

They've been being brought in in bulk from Asia through our Air Cargo facility here and then then transported via "plain brown wrapper" trailers to UPS logistics where they are broken out and labeled for delivery. The boxes are plain brown as well, with two in each one. Nothing on the packaging to indicate that they are PS3s other than you'll find the occasional invoice that's turned the wrong way so you can see what's inside the box.

I heard that only blind, autistic employees were allowed to package the PS3's in order to maintain the highest level of security. UPS driver's were given cyanide pills in case they were captured.

All this is INSANE for a video game consoloe - but I guess money's money...

A story in the Oregonian ...

Some guy hired 4 people to wait in line with him at a Best Buy. Said Best Buy is getting 26 PS3s...he will be getting 5 of them to eBay. 19 other people in line said they were going to do the same thing.

Out of 26 PS3s, 2 are going to people that actually want it for themselves

Honestly, what makes more sense? Waiting in a line for 1 day to get a system to play or waiting in line for 1 day to get a system to sell for triple what you paid for it.

This doesn't surprise me at all.
