Even though it would be nice to see L&O get one, I would still ebay it if I were you. If some idiot out there wants to pay $1500-2000 for one then take advantage of it. Just think, with the extra cash it would pay for your Wii, a bunch of games and extra controllers and you'd still have money left over.

I think this is going to eventually get fixed via a firmware update but even if they don't, it's only a couple hundred titles. The PS3's backward compatibility is still 100x better than that of the 360's.

Believe me, it's tempting. But there's something to be said for helping out a fellow gamer in need. It's not an easy decision, I'll say that.

Tell you what L&O, if I get my hands on another PS3, you can have it. I'll only charge you what I paid for it + shipping. I live in a pretty rural area and I know my Wal-Mart is going to get some, so I plan on going there tomorrow night and see if I can snag one.

The 360 is $200 less because it doesn't have an HD-DVD/BR drive built in. If I go out and get a 360 I'm going to spend $400 for the console + $200 for the HD-DVD add-on -- so that's $600. Even then I still don't have HDMI and I have a hard drive with 40gb less space. For what I'm going to use the PS3 for, it's the better deal.

I disagree. Sure there are a lot of good Xbox games not on the BC list yet, but there are a lot of good games other than Halo that are on the list. Ninja Gaiden, The Tom Clancy games, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Doom 3, Black, and PoP:SoT for starters. BC is not useless for anything other than Halo.

There is already a line of about 10-15 people at my local Walmart. They are being forced to wait outside, in the rain. The store is only getting ten of the systems, a combination of both versisons, and the only people who will be allowed a chace at one of them are those who are sitting in one of the chairs that Walmart has outside.

Not a war, just simply stating the reason why I'll be buying a PS3 over a 360. I currently don't have a Hi-def video player and would like to get one. Stand alone players run $1000 or more for Blue Ray and $500 or more for HD-DVD. If I go 360 or PS3 I'm going spend $600 and it seems to me you get more for your $600 with a PS3 than you do a 360. People who are just looking to buy a console just for gaming and aren't all that concerned with HD can save the $200 and get a 360 or just get a Wii, if they want. Obviously the 360 has much better selection of games right now and the PS3's selection is slim but I don't think that's going to be a problem in the future.

That should mean that 2 employees pre-ordered and are giving their systems up in order to fill all the customer's pre-orders. That's how it's working at my local EB, the 2 employees that pre-ordered gave theirs up and everyone else is getting one.

Apparently Best Buy corporate told all the stores not to let people line up until 24 hours before the launch. Two stores in LA are doing midnight sales meaning that people should only be able to line up at midnight tonight. One of them told me they already had a line of 50 people, and didn't care about the message corporate had given them. The other store last night told me they were following protocall.... until when I called them earlier today and they told me people lined up anyway last night, and the managers decided that would be the line and they also had a line of more than 50 people. ARGH!!! So, I called one of the Best Buys near by that I had heard would be getting more than most stores and they claim they are following protocall and not letting people line up until 8am tomorrow. I'm going to go over there tonight around closing just to make sure there isn't an "unofficial line", and may even sleep in my car there to make sure I get a good spot in the morning. It may seem sad, but as I didn't have work this week anyways I have nothing better to do.

Except that if you want to play HD-DVDs on the 360 you have to shell out another 200 bucks, while you can watch BluRay dvds on the PS3 right out of the box. It evens out.

You guys catch wind of the 720p/1080i problem?

Apparently the PS3 doesn't have hardware scaling built in. If you're one of those folks with one of those HDTVs that doesn't accept 720p, apparently you're stuck with 480p for 720p games. It won't internally upscale 720p to 1080i/p like the 360.

Just an FYI. I know a lot of early CRT HDTVs and some plasmas wouldn't accept 720p, and a handful of others.

If its the one I think you are talking about at the Sonystyle store there are about 300 people lined up right now, probably more. I doubt you will be able to stroll in at midnight and purchase one.

I just got "the call." Well it was on the answering machine. I was 8th on the list at Gamestop and apparently I'm now 4th on the next shipment. That means they are only getting 4? Wow.

Oh that's hilarious. I know my TV doesn't have 720p. So you get your system, and it doesn't come with any HD cables. So you go buy an HDMI cable for $60 (because I doubt most people buying a PS3 know about monoprice.com), and you get it home, and it still only does 480p. Priceless.

Yeah, that's a real fuck up which is suprising seeing as how well Sony has handled the PS3 so far. It's just one thing after the next, after the next with the these guys. Even though I have a brand new SXRD that accepts 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i, I think that the PS3 that I'm picking up Friday is going on ebay. I hate to do it, but this thing is just one bad piece of news after the next and I really hate to see what the next bomb is going to be.

you know, I don't know if my Toshiba accepts 720p or not. I seem to recall reading way back that it accepts the signal but doesn't output at 720p. maybe I should start searching.

If it accepts it, you should be OK. Your TV probably upscales it to 1080i.

It's the people who have TVs that don't accept 720p at all that have to worry. I know, however, that the retail model Panasonic plasmas used to not accept 720p, as well as a bunch of CRT HDTVs.
