Man, I am done with Final Fantasy Tactics. This was one of my favorites on the PS, but I can't stand it anymore. Talk about your memories of a game not living up to the reality. Granted I play a lot of these SRPGs, but I didn't remember FFT being this frustrating to play. You can't pick the order you use your troops, you can't undo a move if you step on a wrong square which is easy to do with the crappy camera in the game and the difficulty is pretty high so you screw up your classes early you might as well start over from scratch.

After playing Fire Emblem, Disgaea and Jean D'arc it is really hard to go back and play FFT again. It just didn't hold up for me.

I noticed a lot of stuff added for the online PSP store. A couple of demos including one for Harvey Birdman and a few videos. Hopefully they will start adding more to this. The demo for Harvey Birdman was alright, but kinda of made it clear that the game is a rental. Fun one time through, but so short and easy it isn't really worth paying $30 for.

Now if I can just get my Patapon demo I will be happy. Hurry up GameStop.

You might want to call them and ask - I did and they said they had them in for a couple days already.

I asked on Friday at the local one and they said they didn't have them in yet, but I guess it is worth checking again.

Does anyone have the PSP case below?? IF so how would a slim fit in it??

Mok 02-14-08 12:01 PM

Patapon demo will be up on the PSN today.

darkside 02-14-08 10:58 PM

I was finally able to get a demo from GameStop, but I'm glad its on PSN as well. They also put up MLB 2008. I just hope it doesn't have the frame rate problems 2007 had on the PSP. The 2006 version was excellent, but they somehow couldn't duplicate it the next year on PSP.

Wow, you're one of the few people I've seen say this. It's been a few years since I last played the PS1 game but I have a feeling this will also be the case for me. Because of that I've avoided picking up FFT PSP till now. I've played a ton of Disgaea and Jeanne D'arc also.

So I have Beats, which I play on my PSP; I tried using my memory stick with Beats in a different PSP, but I get a "you must activate the system to play this game" message. From what I've seen on the net, this stems from the game's data not matching the PSP it originally played on? So if I want to play Beats on the other PSP, I need to re-download it from my PS3 onto the memory card again, or as a separate file? Does this apply to any PSP game, or only ones that have been downloaded from the PSN store?

Just hook up the other PSP and re download it through the store online using a PC or PS3, thats what I did and it worked.

Not sure how many PSP owners here bother with UMD movies, but I like them when the price is right. GameStop sent out a coupon in the weekend email for $5 off a used UMD movie $9.99 and up.

http://a.slickdeals.net/attachment.p...7&d=1203151605

It is a really good deal if you have an Edge card as all the $9.99 titles end up $3.99 with the coupon. The selections are limited to used but it seems many of the stores turned a large number of the unsold new UMDs into used titles. I saw a dozen or so titles that were at every store I checked and from the packaging were the new display copies.

Picked up: Austin Powers, Oldboy, American Pie 1&2, Animal House, Brothers Grimm and Ghost in the Shell for $3.99 each; Princess Bride and Entourage Season 1 for $6.69 and Borat for $8.49.

GameStop.

I agree with this. I loved playing games like Tactics Ogre and FFT back in the mid-90's but there were things in both of those games that now seem primitive when trying to replay them today. There were the things you mentioned about not being able to pick the order of your troops and not being able to undo a move. I hated the way casting spells worked back when the game was first released and I still hate it. Having to wait for a charge timer to be up before your Mage actually casts the spell, which could take a while, giving time for enemy targets to move out of danger. Gameplay seems really slow, the AI moves at a snails pace and there aren't options to speed things up. Although, I had loads of fun playing this game back in 1998, I just don't get that same enjoyment now that I play it on the PSP. I wish Square would have gone back and actually re-worked the gameplay to make things less frustrating and also speed things up. This was released for a portable gaming system and FFT in it's original format doesn't work well with it, imo.

Looks like both Patapon, and the new God of War are getting some good marks. I was already planning on getting both, but it's nice to know that the games turned out well.

darkside 02-18-08 09:55 PM

Yeah, the demos for both were impressive and it seems the final games are also getting great reviews.

I really have to recommend the demo for Space Invaders Extreme. I thought the demo was outstanding. This one moved all the way to must buy after playing through the demo a few times.

Wow I am In love with my PSP again, ever since I finally got around to doing that thing that allows for "retro games" probably can't talk about it on these boards, but wow. I am lovin' me some Turtles In Time!

Yavin 02-29-08 10:01 AM

Was in the store the other day and saw Patapon on the shelf. After looking at the art style of the game and a couple of screenshots on the back of the case I knew I had to buy it soon.

Also didn't realize that Wild Arms XF and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core were coming out in a couple of weeks already.

My wallet is going to hate me ...

Liver&Onions 02-29-08 11:50 AM

Patapon simply put - RULES.

It's retardedly catchy, easy to play, tough to master, blah blah blah. Most of all - it's fun. Best $20 you'll spend on a game this year.

fujishig 02-29-08 12:52 PM

From CAG, Disgaea PSP is down to 29.99 at amazon.com right now...

darkside 02-29-08 07:24 PM

Damn, forgot about Wildarms XF. Tactical RPGs are kind of a must buy for me.

Wick 03-01-08 04:38 AM

I picked up Patapon the other day but I've been busy trying to finish rented games, so I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. It looks badass, though.

I'm really looking forward to Crisis Core and, moreso, God of War. Wild Arms sounds decent but I've never really played any strategy RPGs and I already have a backlog of about 25 RPGs to play, so I think I'm going to just forget about buying that one.

ds6161 03-02-08 04:31 PM

FEVER~~~~~~
Below is a great Patapon walkthru. Be good and ignore the walkthru till you need it.
But this guy has really good idea's and detailed info on units & items.

LOST FEVER *&^%!!!!

Joeboo835 03-04-08 01:54 PM

Has anyone tried to use the new PSP 2000 in the PSP Comfort Grips Black made by Radica? Does it fit? (i'm guessing it doesn't, but i thought i'd ask)

I pretty much have to use those grips or I can't use my PSP, but I was thinking about getting a new PSP.

Decker 03-04-08 03:49 PM

Anyone get GoW yet? Mine's shipping from Amazon so it'll be a few days. Can't wait for that one; the demo blew me away!

Still on the fence on Patapon, but it's at such a reasonable price I'll probably get it soon

UncleGramps 03-06-08 07:06 AM

An Echochrome demo has been released in Japan. Apparently it has an English language track. The demo has been mirrored at:

http://www.pspdemocenter.org/page.php?al=allzipdemos#E

Just unzip to a folder and then copy that folder to the PSP under the Game directory. Oh, and 3.90 firmware is required. I'm installing the firmware update now and then I'll be checking out the demo.

Wick 03-07-08 01:17 AM

I picked up a copy of God of War last night and was excited to play it but, when I put it in my PSP, it told me that it had to update my firmware and that it couldn't do it because the battery wasn't full, so I had to charge it. I haven't tried it yet because I've been trying to beat Army of Two and been doing a lame ass assignment. Hopefully I can play a lot of it this weekend - it looks badass.
