I dunno, the original DS versions of Lego Star Wars were so cruddy, while the PSP was basically on par with the console versions. That's why I waited till now to get it for PSP rather than touch the DS vesions.

So I wonder if this new DS version will really be that much better?

darkside 09-27-07 09:14 PM

The new DS version is being redone from the ground up, but I find it doubtful that it will be worth buying over the PSP version.

I really want the new remote, but I only need the remote and just can't pay $30. I'll have to hope for a deal somewhere down the road.

Edit: Just noticed that Amazon is selling them for $19.99 right now. Went ahead and order it along with the component out cables.

boston george 09-27-07 10:25 PM

How do i know they are the ones that will work with my Slim? Got a link?

I also wanna get the component out cables someday, even if it doesn't fill the ENTIRE screen. I'll probably use it on my 21" LCD rather than my 42" Plasma since I can sit closer to the 21". I bet it would look sweet.

Does anyone know, if i use the component out cable (RGB only) can I get my sound by just hooking head phones to my psp, without using the RED and WHITE stereo plugs for sound?

No pic, but it is labeled clearly, has the correct MSRP and is sold by Amazon so it should be a safe bet.

The cables use your headphone jack so you can't use headphones along with it btw.

That's what I'm thinking, based purely on the space available on a DS cart and the improved graphics of the PSP over the DS. I'll go ahead and get LSWII for PSP then. If I do end up getting the Complete Saga for the DS at least the LSWII PSP will have more OT levels and better graphics.

darkside 09-28-07 11:40 AM

I'm going to end up buying the complete saga, but I think I will get it on PS3. I was tempted by the Wii version, but think I would enjoy it more with a standard controller.

I'm pretty late on the scene with PSP. I bought one a couple of months ago and planned to use it primarily as a portable Mini-movie unit. I bought a lot of films for it but have started really getting into the gaming. So far I really dig all the racing games...Burnout Eliminator, WRO Rally, Wipeout and all the rest. I've started on the "shooter" themed games with Dark Mirror, KillZone and Infected. Are there any other games I should be looking at? I don't really care for the RP just the action. Thanks for your recommendations in advance.

Chris_D 09-28-07 07:09 PM

My copy of LSWII is on the way from an ebay seller, so I'll post my opinion after I play it, but I'm sure it will be pretty good.

darkside 09-28-07 09:25 PM

Finally found a copy of the MGS Digital Comic used at EB. $11.69 after discount. Still no used copies of Loco Roco to be found, but I'll run into it eventually. I also grabbed a PSP sock for $2.69 to use for my PSP until some better slim cases get released.

BTW, nearly grabbed Tokobot for $9.99 used, but wasn't sure about it. Anyone play it? Looked very Pikmin like.

boston george 09-29-07 12:33 AM

I got the Component Out cables for my PSP Slim today. It looks really good on my 21" LCD PC monitor. I haven't tried it out on my 42" Plasma yet but I will tomorrow.

I think it's going to get used mostly on the 21" monitor though. My couch is just too far away from the plasma I think for it to really be convenient to do all the time. On the 21" it just "feels" right, sitting about 3' away from the screen, it's just a really cool option to have.

Any recommendations on a good basketball and baseball games for the psp?

I loved MLB06 The Show on the PSP and would recommend that one. MLB07 has some major frame rate issues for some reason and I found it unplayable. You can download the demo to try for yourself.

For basketball I wasn't thrilled with the EA game, but did find NBA07 from Sony to be decent and actually a lot better than their console versions. They pack in a lot of minigames as well. NBA08 looks even better and has even more minigames including downloadable extra pinball tables. Not the greatest Basketball game, but probably the best you will find portable. NBA07 also has a demo so make sure to try it before you buy.

did anyone hack their slim psp with the new m33 3.71 firmware

and will this let me play games that are for downloads like the iso and cso files

GatorDeb 09-29-07 11:14 AM

Can't talk about things like custom firmware and playing iso's, cso's, and downloading games in here (if you want to keep being a member).

My Hip Gear pouch works really well for my PSP slim. I can put the PSP and DS lite in there.

Are star wars battlefront and marvel alliance good action adventure PSP games?

SW Battlefront 2 is just about completely unplayable, but the PSP-exclusive sequel is supposedly better. I loved MUA on the PSP. It's a fun brawler.

Chris_D 10-01-07 08:38 AM

Got my 4 gig memory card yesterday so finally time for some psp action. One thing I like is that there is a brightness button on the front of the system, which is a big improvement over having to do it through the menu on the DS lite (one of the few things that were worse on the lite than the fat). Screen is great of course. The analog nub thing does seem to cramp my hand a little, something about the position and the way you use it. Hopefully I can use the d-pad most of the time.

I was wondering about using videos on the psp. I have mac osx so I used ffmpegX to encode some videos for the PSP. It actually has specific PSP encoding settings in there for h264, so I thought it would be a breeze. However, after copying the files over to the Video directory via USB, they just showed up as corrupt files in the PSP browser. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

Also I quickly noted that you can't play/encode videos at the native resolution. Is there a legal work around for this yet?

Does anyone have a clue when World Series of Poker 2008 comes out on the PSP? Original date on Amazon was last Tuesday, but I guess it's been delayed.

Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow is out, did anyone pick it up?

IGN gave it a 9.5 and from what I've played that is a deserved rating. Everything you loved from the first game and more. I haven't played online yet but I'm gonna try it out later. I was addicted to the first PSP Syphon Filter's online mode for a good 6 months. This game is a good depiction of how full-featured hand-held games can be these days. Simply amazing stuff.

So is anyone else playing online? Once I create a username I'll post it and you guys should do the same.

Does anyone know when Sony is releasing a headset that will work for the Slim PSP?
I bought the headset for my old Fat PSP just to play Syphon Filter 1 online and it's kinda disappointing that for now I'm not gonna be able to communicate with other players in-game, just because I bought the new Slim.

Yavin 10-04-07 10:02 AM

I'm assuming that screen protectors made for the original PSP will still fit the new PSP slim model? There's a store near me that has some for a couple of bucks on clearance and I'm thinking of picking up one.

Decker 10-04-07 10:30 AM

The screen size is the same, so it should be fine.
I had no idea about the headset not working. Why on earth would that be the case since it just plugs into the headphone jack and doesn't have the computer chip thing on the end like the remote?

It's probably a plot by Sony to squeeze every cent out of consumers, make all the old PSP accessories incompatible with the new slim model. Incidentally, the new, white PSP slim headphones with the remote turned up at my local Wal*Mart.
