Even if they do I imagine it will be a $1 trade value from the start do to that.

If I buy it at launch and immediately open the box and trade it in, it might have some value. Obviously I'll look it up ahead of time to see what it would get. I'll let you know once we get a SKU for it.

Fair point. But how many will do that? Pay $250 to play it a not quite a month early, assuming that there is nothing else on the Wii they want in the launch window?

Seems to me that losing Metroid is big, as they lost the 1 big EXCLUSIVE game they were to have at launch.

Supermallet 09-14-06 02:40 PM

They'll have stuff like Red Steel, which has quite a bit of buzz attached to it.

PixyJunket 09-14-06 02:43 PM

Does anyone have a current launch list or did I miss that earlier in the barrage of posts?

Losing Metroid and Dragon Quest are critical blows to me. :(

Most of the buzz I've seen on that game has been negative. (board posts, magazine, website, podcast impressions etc.)

Oddly, GameSpot (who Joystiq cited as the source for their list) also include Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Rapala Tournament Fishing, and World Series of Poker on their list of launch titles, but Joystiq leaves them out.

Supermallet 09-14-06 02:59 PM

Legend of Zelda (of course) and Trauma Center are must haves for me. The Rayman game also looked like fun. Sadly, none of the rest are anything I would buy. But I can still play all my GC games on it, anyway. And Zelda will take up plenty of time.

Josh H 09-14-06 03:01 PM

Zelda is it for me. Possibly Madden if the Wii version ends up being good, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

But I too have very little time now, so Zelda will be more than enough, and any extra time can go toward the killer DS lineup.

PixyJunket 09-14-06 03:03 PM

Jesus. I hope for their sake that Zelda game is fucking awesome.

I'm still getting one at launch.. but the two games I really wanted aren't there!

Supermallet 09-14-06 03:04 PM

Agreed. I would have bought Metroid, Warioware, and DQ had they been available.

I think I'm with you on Trauma Center and Rayman. Thanks for reminding me. :D2:

Hell, we should all buy Rayman so Ancel can wheelbarrow his balls into Ubisoft's office and DEMAND that they allow him to make Beyond Good and Evil 2 (and as a Wii exclusive). Ah, wishful thinking I suppose.

I guess we can't bitch much since there hasn't been a lot of killer launch game for a while.

Probably since Mario 64. The PS2 had crap, the GCs best was Star Wars Rogue Leader. PSP and DS had crap.

The X-box did have Halo which is one exception I guess, and the Dreamcast had Soul Calibur 2 and NFL2K, but that was 7 years ago.

Brent L 09-14-06 03:10 PM

From that list, the only one that is a 100% for sure buy for me is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Other than that, I'm interested in the following, depending on reviews:

Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
RED STEEL

Other games, like Call of Duty 3 and Madden, I wouldn't buy for the Wii anyway since I have a 360. The only way I'll buy a multi-platform game for the Wii is if it flat out got better reviews, and that would mainly be because of some sort of cool and interesting use of the controller. For me, and I'm sure for many others, it's Wii exclusives for the most part.

pinata242 09-14-06 03:11 PM

I'm hoping all developers follow Nintendo's lead and stay region-free. That way I can at least play DQ Swords if it never comes here. Still, if there's one company to cockblock me, it's certainly Square-Enix...

I suppose so, maybe that's why I never buy launch consoles. :)

I think Zelda will be it though.. I've just really tepid about it, I've been nervous as hell ever since they said it was being made for the American audience. If Zelda is good and I can grab two third party titles, I'll be okay.. and just hope that Nintendo has something else out by January.

Supermallet 09-14-06 03:16 PM

DQ Swords should be coming here. I doubt Nintendo would let Squenix get away with keeping that from the US market.

The gamplay looks straight Zelda, and the adult link part of Ocarina is probably my favorite of any of the zelda games, so I can't wait.

As someone who expected a $200 price tag and an October launch, I was a bit disappointed with today's news. The lack of a second controller being packed in is puzzling given Nintendo's message of bringing the whole family together to play. The controller prices are a little higher than I'd like, but acceptable given the tech that powers them. Metroid's release date slip is sad, since it was high on my list of anticipated games. And the November 19th release date is surprising. The October rumors were in full force the last few weeks, and they seemed to have some validity. Too bad that didn't pan out. But the real surprise is that the launch is after the PS2. Odd choice there - I'd imagine they could have made the launch just a week earlier, if only for effect. I think the only explanation for the mid/late November launch is to ensure that they have plenty of consoles in the pipe to avoid quick sellouts and eBay profiteering. That's definitely a good thing, but having to wait the extra month is a real buzz kill. At least they have a decent amount of time to advertise and get some name recognition prior to launch. I'm still there on day one, but it would be hard to spin these announcements as being positive.
