Is the whole internet wrong?! Nintendo conference at *2PM* Japanese time! tizz66 submitted by tizz66 4 minutes ago (via http://translate.google.com/tr…) This press release (translated by Google) clearly says Nintendo's conference is at 2pm Japanese time - 3 hours from now!! It seems the whole internet is completely wrong. |
Oh.. well I've got about 1-2 hours of reasonable awake time left.. just put the last of my laundry in the dryer so I'm at least staying up until that's finished.. I guess I'll know another dungeon or two out in Gurumin now, I think I've cleared about five since sitting down for all this.

Could it be at 1am?
http://digg.com/videos_gaming/Live_v...ent_conference Live video feed of Nintendo Wii Special event conference manicdvln submitted by manicdvln 3 minutes ago (via http://www.irwebcasting.com/06…) Conference will start 1 AM EST. |
Haha! We've been Punk'd!

Seems like the conference has started, but the Keynote address isn't until 1 am EST.
At least that's on a couple of sites. Anyway, I'm done and will find out in the morning I guess. Too tired to stay up that late tonight. |
Give me the damn news already! I can only kill so many Lego Stormtroopers to keep from going nuts waiting. :D

In a move that may allow Nintendo of Japan to take advantage of stumbles by its main rival, the company plans to announce today that it will release its new Wii video-game console in North and South America on Nov. 19, just as the holiday shopping season begins, and that the machine will cost $250 in the United States. |
Sounds like one of the predictions from the Gamespot people. Everything I've heard from Nintendo says they want the Wii out at least a few weeks before the PS3, not two days after.
|
If Nov. 19th turns out to be the true release date, that's going to be a big disappointment and I think will take some of the wind out of Nintendo's sails.
|
Well, while we wait impatiently for info, I noticed IGN posted some screen shots of how Marvel Ultimate Alliance will look on the Wii:

Still, unless the control scheme with the remote is just AWESOME, I'll get the 360 version of this one. |

I agree, and at $250, if MS offers a 360/Gears of War bundle for $400...that may knock a little more wind of their sails as well.. |

$250 would still be palatable if they release it sometime in October. If they really launch right at the same time as the PS3, I think they will find their sales will lag behind the 360. The system needs a few weeks to build word of mouth.

Hmm...I like it.
November 17th: Buy a PS3 for $600. November 18th: Sell PS3 on Ebay for $1200. November 19th: Buy a Wii and several launch games. November 20th: Call in sick to work. |
A little revision...

A $250 price point in mid-November has definitely dropped this from a "must have on release day item" to an "I'll get it when I can" purchase.
I'll wait for official word on price and release date before I write it completely off of my anticipated 2006 expenses, though. |
So apparently the link I posted earlier is in fact the one to follow.

That link goes nowhere on my browser.
Edit: Nevermind. I got it to work. Man, I really hope that isn't true. Nintendo has been so incredibly smart about everything regarding the Wii, why screw up now? *sigh* |

Actually mildly disappointing news, considering all the hype and optimistic speculation about the price and release date. They seem to be following the Xbox Live pricing structure for retro games, which continues an annoying trend... you have collections from Namco, Midway, Capcom, etc. offering 15+ classic titles for around 20 bucks. Now we're expected to pay $5 or more for a single classic title? Nintendo is so schizophrenic on this front. One moment they're tossing NES titles onto inexpensive eReader cards, or giving away the entire Zelda back catalog as a preorder freebie, the next they're charging $20 for single NES titles for the GBA in the 'NES Classics' line.
