Yeah I was kinda holdin out for you to be able to at least have em on a memory card that's attatched to your ID somehow.

Wick 09-07-06 11:10 PM

I can't wait for Spore.

grim_tales 09-08-06 02:58 AM

I read today that there's a rumor going round that sadly Super Paper Mario might not come out on the 'Cube and be just a Wii title instead :( Its something I read on Teletext (British TV information service).
I was really looking forward to SPM, I don't know how true those rumors are :(

Michael Corvin 09-08-06 06:25 AM

^ I don't think that is a rumor. I think it is official. I read it on one of the gaming sites. Of course now I'm having a hard time finding the link.

*edit - found it in the Mailbag section:

Paper Wii-rio (That Doesn't Even Make Sense)

Hey Matt. It doesn't seem like Super Paper Mario for the GCN is coming out on October 9th (given that it hasn't been released in Japan yet, and everyone but Nintendo has the game listed as Q4 '06 or Q1 '07). I know you vaguely hinted at games for another console being moved onto Wii instead. So is there any chance Nintendo is going to move Super Paper Mario onto Wii? Or was that just a one-time deal with Zelda?

Matt responds: Hmm. How should I write this? Have to be vague, you know? Let me just say that yes, Paper Mario will be headed to Wii and not GameCube. Now read between the lines, damn you! Wait. That was a terrible hint! All right, that's it for today. Time to beat Bozon.

grim_tales 09-08-06 07:52 AM

Shame :( Still, one more reason for me to get a Wii. No point keeping the Cube if you can play all Cube games on the Wii though so may as well get rid of the actual machine.

GoVegan 09-08-06 09:15 AM

This isn't exactly big news, but Gamestop has a bunch of Wii accessories listed, with prices:

http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?c...title=&genre=2

There's a MadCatz s-video cable listed for $40 and a component cable for $60. I'd be surprised if there wasn't an official Nintendo version of both of those for less, but you never know.

There's also something listed as a Wii Controller Glove, but it's only $10, so I assume it's a protective sleeve.

pinata242 09-08-06 09:46 AM

I'd love to see a component option out of the box on the Wii. I'm sure we're just going to get composite and audio, but having s-video and component as well would sure be nice especially if they're pushing 480p support.

I'm betting the glove is something like a batters glove with rubber grips on it so you don't sling your Wiimote into the TV. That's just a guess though.

Is it still planned that you can use the Cube component cable on the Wii? With those prices, I hope so. The cube one was only $30 and that wasn't mass produced. How does the price double for something(the same thing actually) that will be flooding store shelves?

GoVegan 09-08-06 10:08 AM

Yeah, I was hoping for component out of the box, too. Or being able to use my GC component cable, but I figured that Nintendo would still be selling those if they'd also work with the Wii.

Gamestop has the cable listed as an "HD Component Cable", so maybe MadCatz will just be trying to capitalize on consumer ignorance - tricking people into thinking they'll be making their Wii hi-def with their overpriced cable.

Bingo. Not that it's concrete but when the whole $150 Cube component cable fiasco was going down I emailed Nintendo asking if it was going to work with the Wii and they replied saying that it would be using new cables for component video. Since there was actual hardware INSIDE the cables for the Cube (also the reason that no third party cables were made), I'd only assume that all the necessary gear to display component will be in the Wii itself this time.

I imagine it will use the same cables as past systems, so just keep whatever you use for your GC.

I say this because the Video cable for the SNES, N64 and GC are all interchangeable (have the same plug that hooks into the back of the console).

When I got my GC, I just unhooked the N64, and popped that S-Video cable into the GC saving the time of hooking anything up to my TV or receiver.

Drexl 09-08-06 12:12 PM

Even if they do use the same connection again, the GC's component cable plugged into the digital port on the back. So, they would at least need to produce a new component cable (unless they include the same digital port).

Josh H 09-08-06 12:53 PM

True. I forgot about that as I never used component with the GC. Don't have an HDTV, and only have one set of components on my 27" Wega and I use that for the DVD out of convenience (I can't see a difference between S-video and component on that small of an SDTV).

I'm just hoping that I can use the GCs S-video cable.

GoVegan 09-08-06 01:01 PM

I'm not really as concerned about the lack of HD now. I complained about it (probably too much) in the past, but I'm just anxious to get my hands on a system now. For some reason seeing that list of accessories I don't need got me more excited for the Wii.

It's weird - FPS games are usually ones I'd never think of getting for a console, but I'm looking forward to Red Steel. It looks like the controller will make all the difference.

Nobody can accuse publisher Ubisoft of not supporting Nintendo's new Wii console. The third party has more games planned for Wii launch than just about any other company and the lineup spans multiple genres. One previously unseen game set for release this holiday is GT Pro Series, a racer developed by MTO and updated for the Big N's new generation system. The title not only employs a unique cel-shaded visual style, but comes packaged with the first Wii-mote peripheral outside of those developed by Nintendo: a steering wheel.

...

IGN Wii: Does GT Pro Series ship with an attachment of some kind? Please explain what it is and how it works?

Tats: To enhance the user's driving experience, GT Pro Series will include a steering wheel attachment made by Thrustmaster specifically designed for this game. The Wii Remote will fit into wheel horizontally with all buttons accessible, so tilting the wheel will tilt the remote. The player will be able to steer the wheel just like an actual car!

IGN Wii: Will any other Ubisoft games be able to use the attachment?

Tats: Monster 4x4: World Circuit, another Wii launch title, is fully compatible and will bundle the steering wheel as well. Since all buttons on the remote are accessible while attached to the wheel, any racing game that uses the same style of control (horizontal and tilting Remote-only) should be able to use the wheel as well. (Ed's note: Excite Truck, Cars, and the racing portions of Sponge Bob will work with the wheel.)

Looks pretty sweet. I wonder if it is just plastic or if it has rubber type grips.

Supermallet 09-09-06 07:44 AM

Now that's a good idea.

Demontooth 09-09-06 10:09 AM

Nice

Man I am getting excited. Although I do think it will be pretty weird just holding a steering wheel in midair. That's really going to make you look ridiculous. I guess to non-gamers having the whole wheel pedal setup is probably pretty ridiculous looking as well though.

I'm not worried about its silliness, but I am worried about how tiring it looks. A mounted steering wheel, even on your lap, is no problem for an entire race. A steering wheel you have to hold in mid-air, though...

I'll pick it up based on reviews.

pinata242 09-09-06 01:13 PM

It really isn't any different that holding the Wiimote anyway. It should be the same amount of physical effort on the player. The only difference I see is aesthetics. How the player feels he is controlling the game and that's what it is all about. Ubisoft is just taking it a step further in providing an alternative to the standard controller to make it feel more real. I don't doubt eventually there'll be a more complete attachment down the line.

jiggawhat 09-09-06 03:26 PM

This is what is starting to scare me about the Wii. The fact that many games might require other attachments. They've already shown the light gun attachment and the classic controller attachment. I hope this doesn't spiral out of control into a myriad of gadgets that you have to attach to this thing.

Are they going to add a baseball bat attachment? What about a dildo attachment for a sex game? What about a hockey stick attachment?

This is something I don't and will not look forward to. I am fine with something like guitar hero but to get an attachment with other games could negatively affect the sales of the console because it will definitely add to the extra cost and definitely make it more gimmicky.

I'm definitely picking this system up but starting to have some reservations.

Absolute Zero 09-09-06 03:51 PM

Maybe I'm missing something. In the case of Excite Truck, didn't they show the controller being held button side up and paralell to the ground in order to steer? Is there a gyroscope in the remote that adjusts to anyway that you hold the remote?

lopper 09-09-06 03:58 PM

In the ign video that was posted here it showed the guy playing a baseball and golf game with the standard remote. It does not look like you'll need any peripherals for those unless you want them.

I believe there is.
