Pretty sure he was saying he wanted Zelda and Red Steel, but was worried the Toys R Us bundle would include 2 other games that he wasn't interested in. He's worried about the games in the bundle sucking, not Zelda or Red Steel.

Sorry for the confusion. I never thought to clarify myself more in my post. No, I was not referring to Zelda or Red Steel; like Maxfisher said, I was referring to the two games Toys 'R Us gives you.

I was in there today, and I asked the guy in the entertainment area. He told me that he thinks you get to pick two from their stock, which sounds very promising. I'll be at college at 8:10, so I may go during one of my breaks (as early as possible,) or get my Mom to go before the store opens. I really want to get Zelda and Red Steel.

I think that I will go down to TRU soon to find out about a bundle.

This might be a dumb question but I haven't seen the answer anywhere.

Do you have to use the wii-mote sensor thing to play games? In other words, when I'm playing the Zelda game do I have to swing the damn thing everytime to swing my sword, or can I push a button. I'm assuming I can press a button, but I haven't seen anything. I can't imagine laying in my bed at 2:00 in the morning swining that thing around.

Also, I've seen pictures of an old school looking game pad, will this be compatable with the new wii games, or is it for the downloadable retro and gamecube games?

And one last question, is there going to be a planned shortage with Wii's? If I don't preorder should I be able to get one by Christmas in stores (and not ebay)?

1. You do have to swing the wiimote to swing the sword. They had originally set it up for a button but changed it recently because it was less engaging.

2. The classic controller is compatible with some new Wii games, but not all.

3. There's no technical reason for a shortage, but anything can sell out around Xmas. It's heavily in Nintendo's best interest to have the Wii on shelves so I don't think there will be a "planned shortage".

1. You could always buy the gamecube version of Zelda:TP and play it on the Wii since that one will allow you to use the gamecube controller.

Keep in mind, the movements necessary for recognition are very tiny. In fact, I believe it can all be done with just the wrist. I don't believe there will be much craziness or strain with something so simple as the swing of the sword.

Isn't there a US Press Conference coming up? I'm getting more stoked about the Wii release each day.

There's something coming September 15th I think.

Michael Corvin 09-04-06 09:23 AM

Japan and US are Sept. 14th. Europe gets the shaft and has to wait 24 hours and has theirs on the 15th.

Simultaneous events = something big

I'm hoping for multiple announcements, instead of the same thing in each country. That way, we'll get excited on the 14th because they unveiled so-and-so, but also on the 15th when they reveal blablabla.

Or better yet, a simple "We're launching early. Come get it." That would be news unlike any other.

Euro Wii launch date and price due September 15th
Matt Martin 11:29 01/09/2006
Plus new titles to be announced at trade-only event

Nintendo has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that new details regarding its Wii console will be revealed on September 15th in Europe - with a price and launch date announcement looking highly likely.

Speaking on the subject of the trade-only event, an NoE representative said: "Wii will be playable. Nintendo will be announcing new software at the event and there will be new announcements regarding the Wii console itself."

Nintendo is holding a similar event in North America on September 14th, where it’s expected that NoA president Reggie Fils-Aime will reveal price and launch details for the territory.

The representative went on to quash rumours that have recently emerged on the net regarding possible production delays, apparently due to difficulties with manufacturing the Wii's remote controller.

"The reports are entirely rumour and speculation. I can confirm that the Wii is very much on course for a Q4 release, as Nintendo originally stated," the spokesperson said.

Next Thursday cannot come soon enough!

kajs 09-05-06 08:28 AM

Are we going to start taking bets on when the official release date will be?

Michael Corvin 09-05-06 09:14 AM

I'm still holding out for Oct. 2. Announcing on the 14th would give them two weeks to ship to retailers, and beat PS3 to the table by over a month. It would also give them time to satiate the fan base and get multiple shipments in for the average consumer to be able to pick it up for Christmas.

So what's the word on being able to play the Wii on a projector?

What's the question?

Josh H 09-05-06 12:13 PM

It shouldn't be a problem. Just place the sensor somewhere at the top or bottom of the screen/wall you are projecting on.

Problem here is, the screens are on the complete oposite wall from all the electronics. Thats how everyone i know with a projector is set up. So the cord for the sensor bars better be insanely long (15+ feet) or at least sell extensions for it. We'll see how it gets implimented.

p.s. - The idea of running a cord from one end of the room to the other just to use the controller sucks. Just a fyi.

But wasn't it like this back in the days before wireless controllers too? Somehow people made it work then.

Josh H 09-05-06 01:31 PM

Fair point.

I didn't consider that. I was thinking in regards to a buddy's set up who has a ceiling mounted projector, and the a/v equip rack is in the front corner of the room to the left of the screen.

Mazje 09-05-06 01:37 PM

That is actually a very good point. My equipment is set up to the right of my screen, so if the cords are long enough, it shouldn't be too big of a problem.

If Nintendo isn't worrying about the small penetration of HD owners, I seriously doubt they have anything in mind for the miniscule amount of people with projectors.
