Yeah, I had two of those chainsaws in my inventory (picked up a second one on a later pass through Wonderland) and I didn't even need the second one... those suckers lasted for over two days of zombie splitting while I went on my PP sticker hunt playthrough. They are especially fun in the tunnels.

On a side note, has anyone tried to get the Gourmet achievement? I know you have to eat one of everything in the mall, but does include the mixed drinks like Zombait, Quickstep, etc.?

Also, for the Clothes Horse achievement.... does that include 1) the unlockable outfits, and 2) things like haircuts/dye jobs?

Thanks.

Like I said, I'm always finding something new. This one is just hilarious....
I learned you can pick-up the survivors. I had two survivors following. I gave each one a weapon. I then used the Lift-up skill and tossed one of 'em into a crowd of zombies. After he got up he started hacking and slashing with the hunting knife I gave him. With the other survivor I used the Hammer throw skill to send him off into a crowd of zombies. When he finally came to a stop he started swinging away with the bat. I couldn't stop laughing out loud for a few seconds. Love this game!

Great tip about the books and chainsaw. Thanks!

Yeah, thanks a ton for the chainsaw tip! I loved the weapon before, but now it is absolutely badass. I went through well over 500 guys and it didn't even start flashing yet.

Need some help here with the 3rd time you face Carlito in the matientence tunnels.
Spoiler:
Okay so I am at level 24 and I'm going into this case file with 4 health items, 1 sub-machine gun and 2 regular guns. However I can't even seem to come close to beating it. For those who have beat it, how did you do it? I can get the motorcycle to 2 trucks with the bombs before Carlito shows up in his van and blows it up. Then I'm screwed because no matter how many times I shoot him, I can't get his health down to anything of significance. I also can't run away because he either runs me down, or the zombies get me. I tried using a skateboard once, but that proved utterly useless. The only other thing I have yet to try is bringing the convicts massive gun with me into the tunnels, but I doubt that it will be any help since I will be on foot the entire time and will end up running out of bullets before I even face Carlito. Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

For those that beat the game once,

If you want to try to get some of the other achivements, can you blow off all the case files and just concentrate on getting survivors, etc? Or do you have to do the case files to a point so that you can progress the game?

Here's what I did to complete this case:
Spoiler:
Hop onto the motorcycle (the car won't pass through the road blocks) then go left to the upper left quadrant on the map. That should be your first stop. Quickly deactivate the bomb then head towards the upper right quadrant on the map. At this point, Carlito may or may not be there. At any rate, quickly deactivate the bomb and hop into the truck. It's the truck that looks exactly like the ones holding the bombs however this one is parked facing outward AND is accessible for driving. From here, make your way clockwise around the map. You should constantly access your map so you know exactly where you are and where you need to make your turns. You'll be able to complete this case without ever needing to confront Carlito. The goal, afterall, is to disarm the bombs and carry them back out the way you came in to the tunnels.

Goodluck.

This is a very good question.
The answer is 'Yes', you can blow off all of the cases and focus on only rescuing survivors. However (this is why this was a good question), in order for you to have easier access to Entrance Plaza you must complete the cases up to the point where the gates becomed unlocked. I forget which case number it is, but I know it's the case where Carlito is trying to snipe you from the second floor of the Entrance Plaza. After you defeat him, he opens the gates and you'll now have easy access to that part of the mall. You can stop pursuing the cases after this.

I tried to do the "rescue 50 survivors" achievement yesterday. Now, I'm not sure if Jessie, Otis, Brad, Barnaby etc. count as survivors, but I'm hoping they do. IF they do I developed somewhat of a strategy.

Game plot spoilers:
Spoiler:
I was trying to figure out the point in the game where the largest number of 'non-rescued' survivors comes into play. In 7-2 Brad zombifies. But also, if you don't do any cases or let the cases expire when he is out of the security office he will be 'Lost' and you won't be able to count him. Jessie is there the whole time UNLESS you complete all the cases. Barnaby will be in the office after 2-2, but will zombify if you finish case 5-2. Isabella will be in the office in cases 6-7. Otis will be there the whole time, as well as any survivors you rescue -- provided they don't mutiny (fat ass or Kindell scoop missions).

Also, Simone will not go with you to be rescued unless you have solid knowledge of the zombie cure from Isabella, which you don't learn about until 5-2 or 6-1, I can't remember which... doesn't matter because 6-1 starts automatically once you get her back in 5-2.

So, if you get Isabella back to the office you can't avoid the Barnaby zombie scene. So you'd have to pick between Isabella or Barnaby as a survivor. The benefit of keeping Barnaby is you can stop doing cases after 2-3 (getting medicine for Brad), while the benefit of keeping Isabella is that you gain the knowledge of the zombie cure, which allows you to save Simone later on. Keep in mind, if you keep doing cases to get the A ending, you'll have fewer NPCs alive or in the office at the end.

And as I said, this is conditioned or whether or not the game actually counts those non-rescued people as survivors. I know they are counted in the number when you get an ending (heck, if you get one of the endings where Frank makes it on the helicopter it counts him as well), I just don't know if they count toward the achievement.

EDIT: I had mistakenly referred to Sophie when I meant Simone. Corrected.

Good points.
What about the survivors at the very beginning of the game. Brad tells you to make your way to the stairs. Well, none of the survivors on the first floor can follow you. I can't get them to 'Join'. Perhaps making your way to the stairs as quicly as possible before any of them die will count as a rescue???

Also, I posted earlier about the Gourmet achievement. I have discovered that, yes, the drinks are required for that achievement.

Here is a list of every food item in the mall:

Spoiler:
All items can be found in Seon's grocery store unless otherwise noted.

Cabbage
Corn
Japanese Radish
Lettuce
Red Cabbage
Squash
Zuchini
Apple
Grapefruit
Melon
Orange
Spoiled Meat (hold onto raw meat for a few hours, once spoiled it will become rotten looking and make fly noises when you select it - beware it will make you have brief stomach pains)
Raw Meat
Well done steak (put raw meat into one of the restaurant microwave ovens)
Yogurt
Cheese
Coffee Creamer
Milk
Orange Juice
Wine
Rotten Pizza (hold onto uncooked pizza for a few hours, once spoiled it will become rotten looking and make fly noises when you select it - beware it will make you have brief stomach pains)
Uncooked Pizza
Golden Brown Pizza (put uncooked pizza into one of the restaurant microwave ovens)
Melted Ice Pops (on the floor of one of the food court restaurans, or you can hold onto ice pops for a few hours)
Ice Pops
Thawed Vegetables (hold onto frozen vegetables for a few hours)
Frozen Vegetables
Baguette
Pie (the only non-condition related or non-mixed item I couldn't find in Seons, check the Columbian Roastmasters locations in either Paradise Plaza or Al Fresca Plaza)
Cookies
Snack

Mixed Drinks (my locations and recipes are just suggestions, any recipe for the drinks will count toward the achievement)
----------------------------
Nectar (made this in Columbian Roastmasters in Paradise - put two orange juices in the blender)
Quickstep (2 milks in the blender in the ice cream shop at the food court, or ice pops + yogurt)
Randomizer (cooking oil + baguette, try Jill's near the movie theater in Paradise)
Spitfire (cooking oil + condiments in the blender, try Jill's near the movie theater in Paradise)
Untouchable (made this in Columbian Roastmasters in Paradise - put an orange juice and a pie in the blender)
Zombait (brought snacks to Columbian Roastmasters and mixed them with an orange juice)
Energizer (mix a Randomizer with a Zombait: grab an orange juice from Columbian Roastmasters, grab some snacks in the theater snack bar, mix them at Jill's to make a Zombait, then mix a Randomizer from a baguette and cooking oil lying around at Jill's, then mix tose two drinks)

I think the ones in the entrance at the beginning, die, no matter what you do. I've tried saving them, and I tried just running up the stairs, and they always die. I've killed just about every zombie in the entrance, and the survivors still just stand there.

Thanks for the list. I'm working on this, clothes horse, and getting all the PP pictures, while I try getting Karate Champ.

Spoiler:
The XBox thread on Dead Rising that talked about getting 50 survivors makes no mention of any of the people from the very beginning of the game. I don't think they can be saved and I don't think they count as survivors since they die no matter what.

They have to. If you look at your notebook it says they are dead. I have tried both ways, stanying there fighting with them and hoping the zombies go away, they don't, and tried running right up the stairs, they all died each time thanks to that stupid dog.

To be fair, it isn't the dogs fault. It was the stupid old woman that wanted to open the door to save it instead of just writing the annoying pooch off because it was surrounded by hundreds of zombies.

It looked like the dog was a zombie, too

I haven't seen this posted in the thread yet.

Has anyone heard of the bathroom shortcut? I must have missed it after I killed the clown. Some survivor named Greg is supposed to unlock a connection between the Paradise Plaza and Wonderland bathrooms via a mirror.

I'm on my second play through the game right now. I never killed the clown the first time through, but last night I took him out, and the survivor on the roller coaster leads you to the shortcut. I'm not sure if he unlocks it or if it's always there and he just points it out to you. It's someplace you wouldn't really think to look, but it's incredibly useful for bringing survivors from Wonderland Plaza or nearby to the security room.

Ha Ha, I never turned off the roller coaster. Maybe he's still flying around on that deathtrap. I'll check tonight, Thanks!

Heheh...bring a sick bag with you. It's pretty easy to overlook - I almost missed it myself.

As a side note, I'm enjoying this game a hell of a lot. The second play through is much easier since you keep your level/skills/etc., which is making it more fun for me. Killing the psychos is a breeze now, and you can really focus on hitting more achievements the second time around. It's good to have a game with a large number of tough achievements.

Spoiler:
Is there a definitive list of survivors that can never be saved?

I know the initial people in the enterance lobby all die. Also, when you first step foot outside and meet the convicts in the jeep, they bash an old guy. I assume he dies, but I never could find him because I was worried about getting killed by the psychos and getting the girl out of there.

Re: Bathroom shortcut

I missed that shortcut my first go-through because I never fought the clown. But it's a vital thing to get done if you plan on rescuing any suvivors in Wonderland.

The way I see it, for safest pssage through the mall, you need to have five things done.

1) Get the maintenance key
Head through Leisure Park to the parking garage, grab a vehicle and drive to the room in the middle of the map.

2) Kill the convicts in the park
At least in the beginning, before 4 & 5 are done. If you do it early you can more safely get the first day escorts out through the park. Eventually they'll respawn, but by then you should have the whole mall open.

3) Open the gate between Al Fresca and Entrance
Brad does this in case 1-3, but you can do it yourself if you hit the button.

4) Open the bathroom shortcut
Defeat Adam the Clown and have Greg lead you to the bathroom.

5) Open the gate between Entrance and Paradise.
Must activate case 2-2.

Thanks!

I'm enjoying the hell out if this game, though I agree with everyone else that the save system just eats ass.
