Man I've been playing the living hell out of this game. I'm really digging it a lot more than SSBM. Just a fun romp all around

My launch Wii has been fine as well.

The gameplay isn't vastly different than Melee, but it's more balanced, and the amount of content is mindblowing. I'll be playing this non-stop for months.

I played using the classic controller, and I might give it a shot with the Wiimote, but as it stands I have no desire to play the game again. I beat it on classic mode with Link. I didn't like the controls, and some stages I didn't fight anyone and won. The second stage all I did was climbed ladders without pushing any buttons really. I was hoping the game would destroy me the first time through, but I was able to beat it only getting killed twice. Not what I was expecting, I was disappointed it in, and I feel that I wasted my $50. That is just my opinion. Keep playing and you will like it, its not an average fighting game, fun once you get the hang of it and all the weapons etc |

Upon playing SSB Brawl, I got the same impression initially. But playing SSE and getting to use the different characters, I'm REALLY liking this game. Now, if they can do something about handling the current crazy server load I'll be a happy camper! |
OK, I've spent a bit more time playing SSE and I'm liking it a bit more, even though I still find myself falling to an untimely death far too often. I also constantly get my ass kicked by those giant balls with the axe arms. But one thing I really like about it is that you unlock the characters you encounter. Anyone know if it's possible to unlock all the characters by only playing SSE?
Also I really don't like playing as Snake. They dropped the ball on that one. |

Those axe-balls are nasty, never found a good way to beat them w/o taking serious damage. I finished SSE last night, and got most of the characters, but I sitll think there's a few more. Will ventually go back and find all the hidden crap I missed. I only cleared 83%. snake is tough, I think it'll take some practice, but I see potential.
|
MasterofDVD I ended up getting it (about to play) so let me know when you want to play a match :D

Those axe guys were beating me as well until I applied stickers and now they are easy to kill. :) You do know that Spoiler:

I'm having some of the initial dislike of this game that others here have had, but it sounds like many of you have liked it more as you keep playing it. I tried all the different control options and still don't know which one I like, but it seems that the GameCube controller will win out. The analog sticks on the classic just aren't positioned in a way I like and I'm not getting the Wiimote controls.
|
I haven't even tried the Wii-mote controls because I just can't see how it can beat the Gamecube controller. It's easier to hold and is more familiar to me.
Lately I've been doing a lot of homerun contest. I suck though, I haven't broken 2000 ft with anyone yet. |

This game is disturbingly loud in my Wii, runs fine though.
(Picked it up w/ Wii Play w/ that TRU Buy 1 Get 1 $20 off.) Gotta say I'm happier with it than I was with Brawl, though I still suck ass at these games. |
Wow. Thats impressive.

Ok, this is driving me nuts. On Subspace Emissary, how do you get the crown (meaning you've gotten everything in the stage) on "The Plain" which is like the 4th or 5th stage. I've gone through it probably 5 or 6 times and still I only have the green flag. I went to that one red door at the top of that long vertical passageway which leads to a room with a bunch of blocks and water flowing in the background so I've gotten everything there (I think). What else would I be missing? I even beat the level on the "Intense" difficulty without having to use a continue. I've managed to get a crown of every single other level I've played thus far and I'm about 30% through it

I got to say that I loved the SSE. All the cutscenes were amazing. Even though there was no voice work, the movies still captured the personalities of all the Nintendo characters perfectly. I especially loved some of the funny scenes: Spoiler:

Finally picked this up last night, and I like it more than I did Melee. I've already become horribly addicted to the Home Run Contest, and the SSE is better than I thought it would be.
There is just a shit ton of stuff to do in this game. It's amazing. |
I know that Melee didn't have a single player mode like Brawl does but did Melee have even half the other cool modes and options that Brawl does? When my buddy showed me Melee right after it came out I was bored to tears with it in no time. With Brawl I will play a mode and then switch over to something else and then back to regular fighting modes. Next thing I know I've spent 3 hours or more playing.
They could take the Home Run contest out via some weird update and I could care les......because I SUCK soooooooo bad at it. I spent 20 minutes on that thing yesterday and hit a few embarrassing distances. |

Anyone finish SSE w/ 100%? I've got 99%, but can't find what I'm missing in the great maze. All 3 entrances are green-flagged, but I assume there's only 1 thing I'm missing. Any ideas? do I have to beat the boss at a higher difficulty to "crown" it?
|
I got all 100%, its not about difficulty level or bosses, the percentage marks how many of the figures, bonus characters, orange boxes you have gotten.
As for the last maze, the flagged entrance means near that entrance, there is something you have missed, a hidden box or figure somewhere nearby |
hmm, so you think its possible to "crown" one of the Maze flags, w/o the other ones? I was hoping they were all tied together and was just missing 1. Already spent about an hour wandering around in there... damn OCD
|
I just beat the SSE with 92% and am fine with leaving it at that. Now it's time to start brawlin with Toon Link!

Oh btw....I think I unlocked everything in Melee (Gamecube Smash Bros) including getting all 290 trophies (which was a VERY proud day for me). The one thing I hadn't been able to do yet was beat All Star mode on the hardest difficulty (think it's called 'very hard')...mainly b/c I don't have enough coins for continues. Does anything special happen if you beat it on the hardest difficulty (other than I presume the 'proclamation' by the game that you beat it)?

Is there anyway to do a multiplayer battle where you stock different characters? For example player 1 would choose mario, peach, and zelda so that when mario died peach came in next and so on. Similar to how the Subspace Emissary works. I seem to remember a mode like this in street fighter.

I finally played online the other night for the first time. It'll probably be the last. I know it's been said before, but the lag and waiting for other players is beyond annoying and really makes playing online an unpleasant experience. I won't even bother getting into the Friend Code BS.
Nintendo really needs to step up their game in the online department. |
The friend code portion is awesome once you get them in though. I have about 40ppl in and always have people to play against when I go online. I rarely get lag when playing 3-4ppl at a time and the wait is very short. It's the 'Anyone' area that is slow as shit. Out of the ~40hrs I've put into the game, about 70% of that is online FWIW.

Finally bought this today at Costco for $43.59. Anyone else play with the wiimote and nunchuck or just the wiimote? Been trying to get used to it for a couple hours but i'm having trouble. I'm thinking about going out to buy a classic controller for this.
