Super Smash Bros. Brawl! (with SOLID SNAKE?!)
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/10/su...g-solid-snake/
First game that will NOT use the Wii-Mote. Pit, Wario, Meta-Knight, Armorless Samus, Nitendogs look like new characters.. PLUS SOLID SNAKE?! Awesome. |
The news of Solid Snake in SSB has brought out the inner nerd in me. I'm sure I'm getting acne breakouts as we speak. Honestly, this is the most exciting announcement at all of E3 for me.
P.S. ONLINE MULTIPLAYER! Somebody freeze me now and thaw me out when this game comes out, I don't think I can bear to wait! |
Online multi-player.
Will NOT be a launch title. :( 2007 release. Kojima begged Sakurai to include Snake in the GameCube version of Smash Bros., but it was too late in the development cycle to add the character. When Brawl became a reality, Sakurai contacted Kojima and the decision was made to introduce Snake into the series. Solid Snake will use explosives ... and a cardboard box. Snake is the only thrid party character confirmed for Brawl. Sakurai has confirmed that other third party characters are a definite possible. There was talk of Sonic... |
I recall reading this in another thread....
;) |
It needed its own thread, dammit!
|
Asked which Solid Snake in the other thread. I see now which it is :D
I wonder if that'll hamper Sony in a post-MGS4 world? |
Well, Solid Snake does appear on the Gamecube in Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, which was a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid, so I don't think this is going to hurt Sony too much. Hideo Kojima owns the rights to all things Metal Gear, and clearly he's chosen to go with Sony for the main game installments. But he did beg to have Snake put into SSB, so I guess he spends his nights trying to get all of the statues. :)
|
I love you Nintendo.
|
This makes my snake solid. -eek-
|
wait huh!? what!!!! The surprises keep coming! There is a trailer for this game apparently, I must see it! SSBM is a game with the most replayability I have ever seen in the history of gaming, there's so much to unlock, so many characters, so much to do, and its fun to play. This game just upped the ante.
|
The trailer can be found here:

One question I have is did they abandon the idea of the controller shell?
This game is said to be Cube controller compatible, but can you also use the VC controller they have shown? Guess my Wavebirds will continue to get use on the Wii. |
Awesome.
One more reason to get a Wii. |
Forget Snake, I think the real news is Kid Icarus. Makes it seem promising that he will make a solo appearance in his own game. Unless I missed the announcement somewhere.

 I await your post then.
|
I think the fact that there's just a detailed character that has been developed here is proof enough that the game is, at the very least, in design/development. It'll happen.
|
Great information on the official site: http://www.smashbros.com/en/index.html
Very interesting read. |
Regarding the Nintendogs, I don't think they're playable characters. At least they weren't listed as newcomers in the trailer.
My guess is they're items for online battles as they seem to block your view of the battle. Much like the Blooper in MK:DS. I say online, because they wouldn't make much sense in a single-screen battle where it would hurt you just as much as your opponents. |

Wow, the video is so incredible. It is exactly like, what, 6 years ago? When they showed the GC Smash Bros. preview.
AWESOME! |

That's too bad. It's okay though. Zelda and virtual console will keep me busy for a very long time.
|
Yep, Metroid is a launch title too.
Mario Galaxy isn't though. I'm actually kind of glad, release too many games at the same time and they fall through the cracks and I never get around to picking them up in the case of someting like Smash Bros that I'm only casually interested. I'd rather it come in in 2007 when I'm through all the launch games and the DS's killer fall lineup and itching for something to play. |

Not to mention with a half dozen A list first party titles third parties would definitely suffer, and that is exactly where Nintendo needs to succeed this time out.
|
:jawdrop:
Wow! Nice job Nintendo! The Snake part in the trailer was so funny. Plus I love the new Samus Aran model! :D http://www.the-magicbox.com/0605/brawl23.jpg |
I'm not ashamed to admit my Grapple Shot extended when I saw Samus spin out of her suit. In fact, I need a fix...
|
I would love to see Little Mac or Glass Joe from Punchout make the series. The idea of Glass Joe finally winning a fight by laying out Kirby makes me smile inside.

They already have Jigglypuff as the "joke" character.
(Of course, if you played against me as Jiggly you'd be scared of her for the rest of your life!) |
It's a fighting game with Mario. There's certainly room for more than one joke character. This certainly isn't Tekken.

This is SMOKING HOT (click to listen):
http://www.smashbros.com/en/music/index.html The main theme was created for us by none other than famed Final Fantasy composer, Nobuo Uematsu! Additionally, opera singer Ken Nishikiori has also participated in this project on vocals. ...And as a special service to readers of this site, I can say that the game's music will be performed by a full orchestra. It will be a deluxe chorus complete with lyrics in Latin. It's of a slightly different disposition than previous Smash Bros. games, wouldn't you say? I also want to change the atmosphere of the game itself a little, too. But you'll just have to look forward to how I'll be doing that. |
nice! the music in SSBM was one of the best soundtrack compilations in the history of gaming. Does that mean the possibility of Square-Enix characters too?! ;). Sora in SSBB....
I'm also glad they used the normal controller for this, that was a good choice :). |
The story on the official site is a fun read, I like this part:
Until the day comes when I can announce the team's name, I shall simply refer to them as "The Studio." "Let's do it. Let's definitely do it!" The words of The Studio's executive were very simple. I was surprised when I saw the GameCube controllers they were using. The coating on the analog stick was worn down like an old eraser... "Our guys have played Smash Bros. more than 10,000 times!" It had to be a lie. But when I saw their battle records, it showed a terrible number of matches that were not fabricated. This was the result of years of uninterrupted playing of Smash Bros. during lunch breaks. There are often cases where your team doesn't understand the content of the game you're making, but that wouldn't be a concern this time. |

Well, Sora is the name of Masahiro Sakurai's company.
|
I hope they don't ditch Samus' suit altogether. Hope fully it will be a dual character thing like Zelda/Sheik in SSBM.

I don't care if the KH team was finished with a "major project" when this project was starting up. COINCIDENCE I TELL YOU! I will not think this is true. I can't, not yet. Not for my sanity. However, I will never be happier in being wrong should it be true :D |
