This looks the the Wii game of the year. Awesome, simply awesome!

manicsounds 02-09-08 04:31 AM

It really is. They claim that this is really the heaviest Wii disc to date, saying they are using the full dual-layer capacity for the game, and there have been troubles of older Wii players in Japan. They say it's mostly from dusty or dirty drives, but I don't know. I haven't had any problems yet, But Nintendo is willing to have your Wii checked out and cleaned for free in Japan right now.

As for the game itself, I've gotten most of the characters now, only missing the last 2. I'm almost finished with the Adventure mode. The last 20% of the Adventure mode is in a Zelda-style dungeon layout and it's quite easy to get lost.... luckily I found the map button....

You're in for a treat in March when it comes around to the United States.

Oh, and the Wi-Fi, or as I call it, Wii-Fii, is occasionally choppy at times, but quite fun on random battles. Too bad they didn't have that on Mario Strikers....

CreatureX 02-09-08 08:11 AM

Thanks for your impressions maniacsounds! The wait till march for this game is driving me insane.

Who is your favorite new Smash character? You can spoiler tag your answer if it's someone not yet revealed on the official site. :)

manicsounds 02-09-08 05:00 PM

Not really a spoiler, but Pikmin and Olimar is one of my least favorite to use.
His weapon is using the Pikmin he has, but if you lose them, Olimar is completely useless. Seriously, he can't attack at all without them.

EDIT: Ah... I should've read the instructions on Olimars moves.... by pressing B or 1, you can get more Pikmins after you lose them.

Is the Adventure mode good, or does it feel like a tacked-on bonus?

manicsounds 02-09-08 08:26 PM

I like the adventure mode. You need to use every character so it gives good practice for the players. I personally like the adventure mode, but I don't know how much fun I'll have once I finish it....

But then again, beating it gives you the final hidden character.....
Unless of course you're willing to play 450 brawls and getting the same character that way....

CreatureX 02-14-08 10:52 AM

Nintendo is going to be having a few SSBB tournaments. :D

REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ — Attention all Smash fans: Put up your dukes! Just before the launch of the much-anticipated Super Smash Bros.(R) Brawl, Mario(TM) and friends are hosting four regional Wii(TM) tournaments. The competitions will visit Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and finally New York for a Midnight Madness Launch event at the Best Buy store at 622 Broadway in New York. All of the 256 participants at each location will receive a $10 Best Buy gift card. One lucky grand prize winner will receive a custom-designed, crystal-covered Wii, a home theater system from Best Buy and other prizes.

“Super Smash Bros. is one of the world’s most popular game franchises because it draws in characters from across the Nintendo universe and beyond for some all-out fighting fun,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales & marketing. “Super Smash Bros. Brawl has extreme appeal among our core audience, but these tournaments are a great way to get new fans involved as well — before the game is even available in stores.”

Each regional tournament will provide the first 256 people in attendance the chance to “brawl” one-on-one with other contestants in a single-elimination tournament to determine a winner in each market. Regional winners will face off in a final multiplayer “brawl” at the New York City tournament.

The grand prize winner will receive a crystal-coated Wii with a design from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a home theater system from Best Buy and a copy of the game. The second-place finisher will receive one Wii system and Wii Remote, one copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and a $1,000 Best Buy gift card. The third-place finisher will receive a Wii and Wii Remote, a copy of the game
and a $500 Best Buy gift card. The fourth-place finisher will receive a Wii, an extra Wii Remote, a copy of the game and a $250 Best Buy gift card. For more information about the tournaments, visit Nintendo.com.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl features dozens of Nintendo characters, from Mario to Link(TM) to Pikachu(R), as well as new characters like Solid Snake, a gritty soldier from Konami’s hugely popular Metal Gear series, and Sonic The Hedgehog. The combat-filled game lets characters of all kinds brawl until only one is left standing. Its predecessor, Super Smash Bros.(R) Melee, was the best-selling game of all time for Nintendo GameCube(TM). Super Smash Bros. Brawl has more characters, more features and more action-packed fun. What’s more, Super Smash Bros. Brawl uses Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi Connection, which allows up to four players to simultaneously brawl no matter where they are based. I pre-ordered at Amazon. So will they ship it so I have it on Sunday? I may grab a copy at a B&M and return my unopened Amazon copy if I haven't received it come Sunday.

Quack 03-03-08 09:53 AM

I guess it's kinda sad that I've never even played Smash Bros....

clappj 03-03-08 10:11 AM

I'm sure it might've been posted before, but Circuit City is giving away a $10 GC for all SSB preorders.

FantasticVSDoom 03-03-08 10:39 AM

Me neither... And this is the first video game that Ive ever pre-ordered as well.

superdeluxe 03-03-08 10:46 AM

Didn't see this mentioned, but Gamestop is having a deal where you trade in 2 Wii games, and get SSBB for 9.99$ There is a list of Wii games, but definately a good deal.

superdeluxe 03-03-08 10:47 AM

Oh and great movie by nintendo, releasing the game on a weekend night :D, so kids/grown ups can play all night (read morning)

CreatureX 03-03-08 10:49 AM

Circuit City is offering a $10 gift card when you preorder Brawl. You get the gc when you pick the game up.

runner001 03-04-08 04:16 AM

I haven't sorted through the 8 pages of this thread so I'm sorry if it has already been asked and answered. Could someone tell me if there is a preferred method of playing this game? (what type of controller would be best suited)

No one's played it so I doubt that can be answered. If you're a SSBM die hard, then the Wavebird would probably be the best fit. I'm going to try out all the control schemes and see which I like.

IGN gives SSBB a 9.5

It's gonna be a drinkin brawlin mess at my place Saturday night at midnight!!!

Count me as another who hasn't ever played this game. I'm definitely going to check this out though, looks really fun. I guess I should have preordered it though.

What's the best website to order this game and get it the quickest? I usually don't order games online. Is there a website that will get it to me quicker than others?

went today to try and "preorder" it. the guy said they were sold out of their preorders!

I thought the point of a preorder was so that you can order the right amount that you need to sell? They guys said they only set aside about 15 copies for preorders and the rest are for first-come, first-serve. I wasted a trip so I went home and preordered it online and got the $10 GC too.

Gamestop.com has a coupon for free next day shipping on this that I used a few weeks ago. I'm on my way out right now, but I'll find it when I get home in the morning if no one has posted it by then.

that sounds great. if anyone knows it or can find it i would appreciate it.

slop101 03-04-08 11:25 PM

Even with next-day shipping, since it won't ship until Monday, you won't get it until Tuesday. So why get it online when you can waltz into any store and pick it up for yourself on Sunday? No need to pre-order either, as stores like Best Buy will have thousands of copies.

It's dead here, so I'm able to get online a bit, the code is NINTENDO

I have no problem waiting a day or so for a game, since my days off are Wednesday and Saturday. If I can get it by then for the same price without having to put up with the crowds I gladly will.

slop101 03-05-08 09:47 AM

What crowds? Have you been to a Best Buy recently? They are deserted - apparently, we're in a recession...

SDSU92 03-05-08 12:21 PM

Does anyone know if Toys R Us is running a special for SSBB?

Now maybe not, as it seems like BB's gotten in and will be selling a bunch of Wiis on Sunday to go along with SSB's release.

It'll be 49.99 there with the option of getting one of six Wii games at half price. The six games are:

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games ($50)
Bee Movie($40)
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 (i think $40)
Zack and Wiki ($30)
The Spiderwick Chronicles ($50)
MySims ($50)

steebo777 03-06-08 10:15 AM

That's a great deal to snag Zack&Wiki for $15 for anyone that hasn't played or bought it yet.

Does that include pre-orders as well?

slop101 03-06-08 02:19 PM

What's this obsession with pre-orders? Gamestop's really done a number on you guys. They might be sold out, but I promise, places like ToysRUs will have plenty of copies to go around.

steebo777 03-06-08 03:08 PM

For a game with this anticipation, I don't want to chance it. PLus I can get it at midnight at GS, but not until the next day at TRU, BB or CC. For the same cost as other places, GS can have my money for this one.
