I have AT&T Callvantage service which uses a "stripped down" D-Link router that only has one port on it.

I just got a chance to actually set up my Xbox 360 last night, and I have some tech questions. I have seen a couple asked here, but the responses didn't fix my problems. If there is a better thread for these questions, let me know:

1. I can't connect my computer to the Xbox 360. My xbox finds the IP and DNS, but I can't get it to pick up my computer. I am trying to listen to songs from my computer, but no luck yet. I am connected through a wired router. I disabled my firewalls, Mac filtering, etc, but I still can't get it to connect for some reason.

2. If I went wireless, do I need the xbox wireless adapter, or can I do it with a second wireless router?

3. If I was able to get it to connect successfully, what do I need to stream videos from my computer? Do I need WME?

I am sure I will have other questions when I actually get a chance to play with it a bit more, but for now, this will suffice.

Thanks in advance

I have a question related to an inquiry in the 1.0 thread. My friends and I put multiple live accounts on one Xbox so that when everyone was over we could hop on Live and each log in to play ranked matches. This could also be done with multiple memory cards. Now...

A couple friends tried this last week with the 360 and it completely wrote over the profile on the hard drive with the one from the memory card. Needless to say, one guy was upset b/c it completely wiped out his gamertag rankings. So we could go the memory card route, right? Not that I can see, since there are only two memory card slots. That would mean 3 could play on Live.

So how do you play 4 players on seperate live accounts on one tv/360?

This is all in regards to Halo 2, BTW.

movieking.

I know you need Windows Media Connect installed on your PC for your 360 and PC to commuicate. I know some people have problems, but mine worked fine. WMC should see the 360 if they are both running.

Wireless, not sure...but I know KMART is selling the MS Wireless 360 adaptor for $50 this week. YMMV, but it seems to be national...a misprice wonder.

To stream videos, you need the WME I believe.

I have WMC installed on the PC, and the XBOX 360 is allowed, and files are shared. I get connected with the XBOX since I was able to update my Xbox Live details, but it's just the computer that won't connect. Strange.

Thanks for the info. I figured I needed WME.

Any one else got ideas for me?

Do you have a firewall running on your PC? You may have to speficialy allow the XBox to connect to the PC.

yeah to be able to watch videos/recoreded tv you need to be running windows MCE2005. and on top of that make sure windows media connect is installed on the machine you want to share with. i'm thinking anything else would be a network problem, but you never can tell with microsoft's software.

Re: WMC

Try this fix. It worked for me:

It appears both of these conditions must be met. I could not get it to work by doing just one or the other. Your mileage may vary.
1)-->TURN OFF INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING (If you had your PC set up to use XBMC with your Xbox, you may have had this option turned on. I hadto turn this off to get WMC to connect. Not 100% clear as to why, but it worked for me.
2)-->Enter the MAC address of the Xbox360 itself into the Alternate MAC Address setting under Additional Settings/Advanced Settings on your Xbox360. I used the Wired MAC Address of the Xbox360. (What it says on the lower left of the advanced settings page) Also check to be sure this MAC address matches the one under the properties for your Allowed Xbox360 in WMC.

I take it EA has NO plans to release it's College Baseball game to the 360? I actually enjoyed EA's baseball this year....I want to try this game, but I would like a 360 version. The game looks promising.

Sorry if this is not really 360ish related.

FYI, for future people reading.

So far it is a no go. We managed to get multiple accounts on one box, but in a less than ideal way.

When you copy your Live account from your hard drive to a memory card it doesn't copy it. It MOVES it from your HDD. So once it is on the MU it no longer resides on your 360. So erase the MU and you are toast. So after gaming night is over, you have to copy each account back to the memory card and then back to their respective HDDs. Pain in the ass.

Apparently this is unavoidable if there are 4-players. Two will have to reside on the system, since there are only two memory card slots.

Did you run Network Setup Wizard for the Control Panel on your PC? (workgroup should be MSHOME)

Per my post #296 of this thread:

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=296

Point one being turn off internet connection sharing (ICS). Check the following link for turning off ICS:

Xbox 360 sells 326,000 in USA;
Call of Duty 2 tops software chart

Rob Fahey 15:45 14/12/2005
Early sales for Xbox 360 can't match Xbox due to stock shortages

The first independent figures regarding the launch performance of the Xbox 360 in North America have been released by the NPD Group, revealing that 325,902 consoles were sold by the end of November.

Shortages of the hardware at retail have held back Microsoft's console sales, which lag behind the early performance of the original Xbox - which sold 556,000 units in a comparable amount of time after launch back in 2001, despite direct competition from Nintendo's GameCube, launched only three days later.

However, the console has had an incredibly strong launch in software terms, with 1.27 million units of software shipping alongside those hardware units - representing a tie ratio of 3.9, far higher than the original Xbox tie ratio of 2.4.

Whether that healthy figure is down to consumers being "encouraged" to pre-order additional software in order to guarantee the status of their console pre-orders as the imminent shortages became clear in the run up to launch or not is a matter for debate - but for software publishers, it represents a major bonanza from the new launch.

Activision, in particular, will be delighted with this showing; Call of Duty 2 was far and away the most popular launch title for the Xbox 360, and with just over a quarter of a million sales, 77 per cent of all Xbox 360 purchasers brought home the game with their console.

Electronic Arts took the next two places in the inaugural Xbox 360 monthly chart, with Madden NFL 2006 selling some 178,000 units, and Need for Speed Most Wanted selling 108,000, while Microsoft's Perfect Dark Zero - the best selling title in the UK at launch - was the highest ranked first-party game at number four, with sales of nearly 86,000 units.

Microsoft claims to be making regular hardware shipments to retail in the wake of the launch, and will continue to do so into the New Year - but with many specialist retailers still working through a backlog of pre-orders, it may be after Christmas before there's much free stock of the Xbox 360 on shelves.

Apparently Ubi Soft is unhappy with the 360 version of Kong. So much so, they recomment picking up the Xbox or PS2 version instead:

Fans wanting to get the best out of the King Kong video game should avoid the version for Microsoft's new Xbox 360, the game's maker Ubisoft has suggested.

Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot admitted that the 360 game is too dark on standard TVs, making it hard to play.

"I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't see it when we were developing the game," he told the BBC News website.

The game of the Hollywood blockbuster has received generally positive reviews and sold well in the UK.

Multiple versions

Ubisoft's team worked closely with King Kong film director Peter Jackson, and the game has been praised for recreating the cinematic experience of the film.

As with many big blockbuster games, Ubisoft made multiple versions in order to sell as many copies as possible.

Versions for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC hit the shops in the UK in mid-November to favourable reviews.

The Xbox 360 edition went on sale at the beginning of December.

Kong is currently at number four in the official all formats games charts, with the 360 version accounting for 12% of sales.

Players will have expected, at the very least, that Skull Island would look better than on other consoles, taking advantage of the better graphical and processing abilities of the 360.

But Ubisoft has warned that the opposite may be the case.

"We have a problem on the 360," said Mr Guillemot. "The screen is dark on some TVs and it totally changes the experience. When it's dark, you don't see where you have to go."

The Ubisoft boss said the team who made the game used certain settings on high-definition TV screens.

It did not occur to them that there would be a problem with standard televisions, which are what most people use to play console games.

Other 360 games, like Microsoft's Perfect Dark Zero, offer an option to select what type of TV is being used.

"We are looking to see if we can fix the code," said Mr Guillemot.

"It is the beginning of the high-definition TV era for us. It's a shame, but it happens with new machines. I don't think we will have it anymore."

He recommended that fans of the movie stick to the version for more established games consoles.

"When you play on an Xbox or a PlayStation 2, you start to see that it is beautiful," he said.

Kong looks simply stunning on my 360. Im playing it with a HDTV however. It must be pretty bad on a standard TV for them to come out slamming it so bad.

If you have an HDTV id say it looks fantastic with correct darkness settings.

Yeah, Kong looked good on my HDTV too....some parts were dark, but not TOO dark. I had audio issues, but those were just a glitch.

2. Madden
3. NFS
4. Perfect Dark
