Still, on Ebay, how many Xbox 360s were sold at that price? 20,000 units? Xbox 360 was never stocked in large quantities, thus the high ebay prices. If the PS3 does indeed launch with 1 million units, I guarantee that they will be widely available at launch due to the $500 price tag.

Michael Corvin 05-09-06 02:52 PM

^ I thought the same thing about the 360 and the $400 price. Quantites kinda screwed that up.

uteotw 05-09-06 02:59 PM

All this makes me glad I stepped up from a PS2 to a 360. $399 was tough but $599 is just way too much. As long as I've got Splinter Cell, Hitman and GTA--all in HD, I'm content. Besides who really needs a 60GB hard drive for gaming??

I know this is a PS3 thread, but regarding the 360, right now I could sure use a 60GB HD for all of the damn content download!

hahahaha

I'll be very short and brief - my rant on (another forum which is mysteriously edited out) was a bit more...full of swear words.

I want to buy the PS3. I don't like FPS and racing games much - the 360 is a bust for me (my xbox sees very little use - I have about 10 games). I go where Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest go.

No way. This family can't afford $600. And don't get me started on the tard-pack. It's even worse than the Microsoft tard-pack. I'm probably going to need HDMI eventually - not an option for me.

Guess I'll be playing the PS3 in about 2012 when it gets down to about $300. Wii + 360 for this generation, I guess.

With multiple similar comments by different users, makes me wonder if MS will see a sales spike in the 360 this week.

But you can afford $400 + $200 for 2 consoles + games + accessories? -rolleyes-

Anyone who doesn't think they'll sell out at $499 and $599 is insane. Honestly this sounds like insecure 360 and Wii fans spouting off about how the PS3 is DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The playstation brand will be enough to sell the console. Don't get me wrong, the price is not cheap but the amount of tech you get for the price is pretty crazy.

Anyway, continue with the price bickering.

I think that's a majority of the posters on these forums.

I'll be getting the 360 someday when it gets a better selection of non Racing/FPS games. I'm anticipating just the Wii for the next year or so.

I guess it would be better to say, my family shouldn't be spending $600. I can't think of any games I need bad enough to spend that kind of cash. Not even Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are worth a $600 startup cost and I fricking worship Dragon Quest. I'm thinking $200 for the Wii this year, and $200-$300 for the 360 maybe late 2007/early 2008. Way more gaming for my $s.

It's going to be weird not having the latest Sony console in the house, though. We had a PS2 a few weeks after release, and the PS1 was the first console I bought when I was living on my own.

Blitz6Speed 05-10-06 03:30 AM

I got my 360 for an AMAZING price 6 months after its launch. Even if they drop the price by 100, i still got it cheaper now LOL. I expect to get a PS3 deal very similarly, just gotta be patient. I dont need to get it day 1, i like to hear all the stories lol.

Blitz6Speed 05-10-06 04:51 AM

p.s. -

I was looking at the spec sheet again. Both systems do 1080p. No tv supports 1080p over component, just HDMI. So obviously it must output it somehow. So maybe they have a connecter available that goes into the port, and converts it into HDMI vs having a seperate HDMI port? Im not losing faith on HDMI on the 499 unit, they're identical systems, so it has to be possible to do it somehow.

Michael Ballack 05-10-06 05:06 AM

I'll be getting the 600 dollar version, but I'm not pre-ordering, buying a bundle, or paying more for it on ebay. Patience payed off for waiting for the 360 and I'm going to do the same for the ps3 and wii unless I luck out at the store one day which is doubtful.

Well if you have been actually reading the forums you would know a good majority actually HAD PS3 at the top of their list but are now considering other options because of the price. So much for the playstation brand.

There is no HDMI<>Analog converter. It would defeat the whole purpose of HDMI.

Most likely there is an error on that sheet. Either they left off the HDMI for the base pack or the 1080P is an error. Now since they haven't come out and reassured us that the base pack has HDMI, I'll assume the 1080P was a typo.

I sure hope they find a way to work that in or there will be some confused and angry customers. In fact, Sony may paint the studios into a no-ICT corner (which wouldn't be a bad thing) or deal with the wrath of the people who they sold the PS3 on with the promise of next gen movies as a bonus.

You can count me in; I was planning on a PS3 (after a price drop) and a Wii.. now it'll be Wii only. A price drop still won't put the PS3 within my comfort range. No insecurities, no predictions of doom, that's just way more than I'm willing to spend on a game console (even if I could easily afford it without breaking a sweat). Maybe if it gets to $300 or under and there's a Kingdom Hearts III, I'll reconsider.

The first run will sell out. After that, we'll see. The PS1 was the only console I owned during its generation and I have PS2 and GC from this generation. I definitely would've fallen into the group who'd buy for the Playstation brand, and there's just no way I'm spending that much money on a video game system. About the only way I'd even consider it is if they packed in a second controller and 2 or 3 kick ass games, in effect selling bundles instead of standalone systems.

The amount of technology might be amazing, but it's only a fair price if you want and will use that technology. I'm interested in Blu-Ray, but only marginally. The main reason I buy a system is to play games and Sony priced themselves out of what I'm willing to spend for that. If Microsoft ever gets around to fixing the backwards compatability of the 360, I'll for sure be picking one of those up in lieu of the PS3. Otherwise, I'll just get a Wii and enjoy that until one of the other systems either drops in price or adds something that makes me willing to drop ridiculous amounts of money on it.

This is my stand. I don't think the PS3 is doomed by any means. There are gamers that really want it and have the budget for it so I know they will have no trouble selling out their first 4 million units this holiday season. I personally bought a $700 Denon and a $500 HD DVD player within a month without even flinching.

However, for a video game console I just can't spend that kind of money. Especially with my history with Sony hardware. I definitely want to play KHIII and FFXIII, but those will be there down the road for me when the PS3 is under $300.

It will be interesting to see how Sony does once the early adopters have bought in, but with their strong catalog of titles and the Xbox360s failure in Japan they should be fine.

Wow. This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. (Except I bought the slightly cheaper Denon). I admire your brain. ;)

BBEANLPHIE 05-10-06 08:58 AM

I am saying the same thing myself everytime i think about the $600 price tag plus TAX *ouch* in NYC I just shake my head. Then again with all the hype Sony will *try* create if its effective hype a large majority of us who are saying no now will likely break down and pick up the system anyway on launch as the hype continues to build. Same thing with the Xbox 360 for $400 I would no way get one I said to myself and so did all my friends but after launch and reading and seeing the hype plus the xbox live service offering so amny features I went through a scavenger hunt to find one. If Sony properly markets the system im sure most of saying no now will be itching to get one at launch.

silentbob007 05-10-06 09:42 AM

I'm sure there will be lines, camp-outs, and rampant shortages of the PS3 at launch. Why? Because if there weren't, I think people would say that the product was not in demand. Obviously enough people want a PS3 to sell it out ... what will be interesting is the legs. 360s were hot while they were hard to get, but now that I see them in every store I go into, is the demand still high?

Save Ferris 05-10-06 10:08 AM

Ive always wanted to own a playstation but after being told Sony couldnt care less about getting new customers (not just by people on this board but by the marketing decisions that Sony is making) I feel a lot better about not wanting to give them any of my money. As an 'entertainment giant' they seem to have gotten very full of themselves and it feels good to put my chips in with the underdogs. Wow. MS is considered an underdog.

Im sure Sony will sell lots of PS3s but I hope they learn to treat gamers better. The 360 seems to be all about the 'gaming community' and while of course its all hype, there is some real value in there. As a consumer I really feel good about 'voting with my dollars' in this case.

BBEANLPHIE 05-10-06 10:11 AM

At this point with the 360 it seems like everyone who wanted one before already got one.
I'm sure with the impending release of gears of war and other top tier games plus the fact that the ps3 being priced at a mere $599 will raise sales itself for the 360. +
