My launch unit is working fine. |

Any truth to this report?
The 20GB console won't include an HDMI output, which means that it won't be able to deliver high definition pictures. But perhaps more disappointing is that wireless bluetooth controllers won't be supported; instead, gamers will have to make do with retro-style wired-up versions of the increasingly controversial PS3 pad. I was under the impression that the 20GB will be lacking wireless networking capabilities and that BT is standard. |
I do think it's true that it won't have HDMI. But it can still to HD over component for games and for bluray movies that don't have the copyprotection feature that requires HDMI to output.

I'm under the impression that all PS3 controllers are wireless and I haven't heard any mention that the tard pack would use wired controllers. Hopefully that one is untrue.
|
I think if the tard pack didn't use Bluetooth, Sony would have mentioned it at the press conference.
|
I'm pretty sure I remember them specifically saying the wireless controller would come standard with all PS3's at the press conference.
|
Same here.
I haven't found anything about it anywhere else so I guess it's pretty much false. |

that is a ricockulous statement...my launch day unit is working perfectly...not one problem ever |
mine still works fine..
|
Yeah...had mine since 2001.....still works great!!!
|
My launch unit bit the dust, too. I got in on a good tradein deal for the slimline PS2...which I detest. And one of my friends had the PS1 that you had to flip upside down to get it to keep working.

Um, isn't there anything else worth talking about in The Official PS3 Thread? We all (or most) have PS2 experiences, but really it's not a scientific survey of the PS2's reliability record and not pertinent to the a PS3 discussion anyway.
Sorry to play Jr. Mod here, but can't we please move on? |

I know I am probably going to buy a warranty from wherever I purchase it from.
|
I don't know if this was already discussed or not, but there's a rumor that there is one more reason NOT to get the "core" PS3 as if we needed another...

I think this rumor will be proven untrue.
|
I agree, it really doesn't make any sense. In fact, it seems harder to manufacture wired controllers anyway. Wait... are there even controller ports on the PS3? I suppose the USB ports could be used...
The non-upgradeable hard drive rumor will probably be true, though. |
A friend of mine is offering to sell his HDTV to me, a Sony, 30" I believe for like $700, or he'll trade for my current SDTV (32" Sony) + $200. I guess he needs money. I'm wondering if I should take the offer.. I'd kind of like to be able to take advantage of the 16x9 480p for Wii and maybe (just maybe) it might make a PS3 a little more realistic for me.
|
You can get 26" LCDs for about $1k right now. Anyway, here's a video demo of the PS3 menu interface, looks similar to the PSP interface:

The Sony CRT sets are also the best direct view sets on the market. |
There's the Westinghouse 37" LCD 1080p sets which are $1500 or so, however they come with no tuner, those are a pretty good deal. Here are some pictures of one someone took:
