Anybody know where I can score some ectoplasm? I know I can kill some ghosts, but I don't know where to find any. Any specific locations?

Last night, I lowered the difficulty a bit in the options to help me out....that seems to have helped a great deal....my friend has both the pc version and 360 version...he said the difficulty is set higher on default on the 360. Dont know if thats true or the settings are just different on the PC version.

The only way I know of getting that is by killng a ghost. I went back into one of the first caves I explored and found a host of new enemies in there. I thought it was going to be a cake walk. (I went in to see if I forgot something) anyhoo, this guy appears out of no where and starts doing some kind of magic and making this minitorish looking thing appear and attack me, then he made a ghost appear that I couldnt kill until I realized the sword was not going to do me any good on a ghost Thats when I figured out I had to toss some magic at it, after a LONG battle it died and left extoplasm behind. So to make a short story long, go back into a cave you already explored and there will be a host of new bad guys in there possibly ones that can conjor up ghosts......

JUST FYI, Vampirism can only be cured in the first three days at a temple, after that you need to go on a quest that originates at the temple in the imperial city.

For the quest you will need some hard to get items but all in all it isn't that bad (some people think it is horrible but I found the following to be easy

You need 5 Grand Soul Gems, a tall order for sure but between the shops in the market and all mage guilds you can find 5 Grand Soul Gems or more fairly easily. Other than that you need some alchemy supplies (nightshade, garlic, and bloodgrass or something like that.)

You also need to kill a powerful vampire who is pretty easy and get the blood of an argonian. After that you can finish the quest and stop being a vampire (I always save being a vampire for the end game : ).

Also of note:

Once you finish the quest you can get the 1000gp quest reward from the count as many times as you want. Just make sure to do it then because I don't think you can exploit this bug

Great... I think the only magic spell I have right now is that fireball type thing that I started off with. I've been only doing melee attacks thus far.

I want to continue being a vampire, i'm just curious if we have an unholy shrine to cure this weapon curse or something that is reducing my speed. I would hate to have to cure my vampirism, cure the curse, then try to find someone to reinfect me.

Yeah, thats all I had too when I went up against that ghost, and let me tell you, it took many a fireball.

Silver weapons as well as magic weapons should also damage a ghost. The magic weapon can even be out of charges.

I just hit level 7 or 8 this morning (can't remember which), and I'm really enjoying it so far. After closing the first Oblivion gate, I went off to do Thieves Guild quests, Mages Guild quests, and random side quests. Once that got a little tiresome, I hopped back onto the main quest line, and got just past the part where you
Spoiler:
infiltrate the daedric cult and steal their holy book. That was a fun quest. You have to give up all your items to a cult member in order to sneak into the inner sanctum, and I tried to pickpocket the guy to get my stuff back. I managed to take a few things back before he caught on. He didn't get upset, but I couldn't take any more of my things from him. Later on, you have to decide whether or not to sacrifice an innocent person to complete your "initiation". If you choose not to kill the person and just swipe the book, you get swarmed by about ten cult members, so I chose to go through with the sacrifice. After the sacrifice, everyone dispersed except for the cult member who took my things and one other cultie who was guarding the altar. I lured the one who had my stuff into a darker area so I could kill him and take everything back without anyone else seeing. Then I swiped the book and ran out of the cult's base, narrowly avoiding the many angry culties chasing after me. It seems like there are a number of ways to do this quest, but my approach worked pretty well, except of course for the innocent sacrifice. But I sure wasn't going to leave without all my gear!

I like the amount of freedom you have, and how some quests give you a few possible approaches on how to tackle them (charge in with your sword drawn, or take a sneakier approach, etc). The quest management system is really well done, so you can easily jump between different quests, and you always have a bit of text to give you a place to start if you don't remember what the quest was about.

The few negatives:
  • too few voice actors. It seems like there are maybe 3 male voice actors and 3 female voice actors in the entire game. You'd think they could've gotten a few more people - it's just weird to meet 40 different characters who all have almost the exact same voice.
  • repetitious conversations. When you bring up topics to different characters, a lot of them say the same exact thing, word for word. Same goes for conversations that other characters have with one another. I do like that their conversations tend to reflect local gossip as well as major world events, though.
  • glitches. My game has locked up once, and several quests were a bit buggy. Nothing too major (except for the lock-up), but still a little annoying.

Overall I think it's a fantastic game, and you can't beat the amount of things that are available to do.

Go into any of the chapels and the lower levels will have them. I think they call them undertows.

I tried doing that, but one of the chapels undertows needed a key, and another I could lockpick, but well... is it safe to do that since the door is red to begin with?

It's safe as long as you don't get caught. Time to go into Theives Guild mode.

A few questions from an overwhelmed newb:

Is it possible to be a member of more than one guild at a time?

Does anyone know of a specific shop that I can buy a potion to cure the curse you get before you become a full-blown vampire? The curse that you have three days to rid yourself of.

Regarding the above mentioned curse: you have to sleep for it to turn you into a vampire, right? I'd read that if you get the curse you can have it for more than three days before it turns you into a vampire so long as you don't sleep after the third day.

What types of quests can I do to raise my fame and lower my infamy? Right now, the latter is higher than the former and its causing me to be unable to cure myself at altars, hence the question about buying the pot.

I think that's all for now, although I'm sure there'll be more questions where those came from in the future.

Thanks.

You should be fine as long as someone is not right behind you. There are 5 ghosts in the town where that quest originates.

-You can join as many guilds as you want in any order.

-I haven't found a shop that sells them but you can find them in caves all over the place.

-As long as you don't sleep the vampirism will not take effect.

-You can't lower your fame or infamy. It all depends on what missions you do. Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood missions will raise your Infamy. Your bounty is what is keeping you from using altars, not your infamy.

Well i have no bounty on me but do have infamy of 31 and fame of 7 and i can't use the shrines. I had assumed it was due to being a vamp - i hadn't even considered the infamy.

I'm having a few problems that I'm assuming could be glitches.

1) I'm trying to end the Leyawiin Recommendation quest for the Join the Mages Guild quest. I've gotten the amulet to give to Drasil, but her replies won't update so that I can give it to her.

2) In the Brotherhood Betrayed quest, I can't make it past the part in which Olav the innkeeper, I guess, is supposed to give me some information about Raynil the vampire hunter. I've even bribed Olav to give me info.

3) In the Path of Dawn main quest, I'm not sure about what to do once I'm told to find a hidden message in the Mythic Dawn commentaries. I read the books, no update, then attempt to make out what the books are saying, but I really have no idea.

Any help here guys?

Edit: Apparently, you've got to wait several days on number 3 for it take effect.

I decided not to start over, I really didn't want to lose my character. So I'am finally cured of being a vampire. Now I can go back on my merry way.

If you don't want to break into a church In Anvil, or rather on the docks of Anvil, there's a ship who's crew has all been killed and they've turned into ghosts. The captain wants her mother's crystal ball that was left in the hold. I had a lot of trouble killing them all, but there's only one ghost on the first level. (then 2 on the next and I think 3 on the final level) She gives you a nice sword afterward.

I read somewhere that if the text is grayed out then what they have to say on a subject is nothing you haven't already heard. Saves some clicking though it isn't perfect...I'll still get repeated answers, but it's something.

I'm enjoying this game far more than the 10 minutes I spent playing the previous one. I felt to overwhelmed in the last game and had no clue where to start. This game is much better about giving you a sense of direction. The game does have a substantial learning curve for myself since the only real RPGs I ever got into was FF games.

Today I was fighting some stuff in the middle of the woods when a message popped up saying I was kicked out of the Dark Brotherhood and a spirit would visit me the next time I sleep. It said also that I had to kill the spirit if I wished to rejoin. I was very curious about what I did to piss them off. Then a minute later I get a another message saying I was suspended from the Mages guild for stealing. WTF?!?!

I managed to kill the spirit but I can't get to the proper person to get back into the Mages guild. Not sure what the heck I'll have to do to get back on their good side but I'm sure it will be a real pain in the ass.

The stuff you were fighting in the woods...did you attack them, or did they attack you? If the former that might be why you were kicked out of the Mages Guild. Unless your opponent is completely evil, you can't attack them unprovoked. Or maybe a stray shot (assuming you were using a ranged melee attack) hit a mage guild related being?

I'm not familiar with the Dark Brotherhood yet, so I can't comment on that.
