In Kameo, If you talk to the guy in the book, he tells you exactly what to do. He will be very specific, especially in cases that a task is taking too long

Kameo so far is really fun. It has that "launch title" look about it where everything isn't quite as polished as it could be, and the control of some of the characters

Spoiler:
Deep Blue

is excruciating. But it's fun.

Perfect Dark Zero so far has been a let down. I just can't believe you can't JUMP in that game.

Well, I can't believe you can't roll in Halo and Halo 2. I mean come on.

Seriously, I don't see the problem with the lack of jump in PD0. Neither Goldeneye nor the original Perfect Dark for the N64 had jumping. None of the Ghost Recon games have jumping. All these games are still very fun.

And someone who picks "Highly Recommended" means it, whereas 8.2...I mean, what distinguishes an 8.2 game from an 8.4 game? I don't like arbitrary numeric ratings, but it's especially silly when you get that granular.

My ideal review site would have:

1) No decimals or percentages or stars or GamePro-smiley-faces associated with their reviews.

2) A small team of reviewers with a bio somewhere listing what types of games they like and what some of their favorite titles are. Y'know, because I'd more strongly consider the opinions of someone who has similar tastes. The advantage of a smaller team is familiarity, but don't let it be so small that the writers are overburdened and rushing through their reviews.

3) Reviewers who can describe the game, describe the game play, say what they liked and why, and what they didn't and why, and can do so in a reasonable amount of space. 4 paragraphs aren't enough. 6 pages on IGN.com are overkill. There really is a happy medium in between.
Heads up: I don't read reviews. I just need a quick summary. If something is a 9 or above, I know it's great. If it's below a 7, it's not. If it's in between, then maybe I will read the review.

So... I wouldn't use your site.

It takes away from the immersion. Jumping is something everyone can do. Give me a half-assed Call of Duty 2 jump, that's fine. But jumping is a lazy excuse so level designers need to think less when making a game.

Everyone can roll too. I can't believe that in other games you can't effectively use cover and shoot around or above it. It takes away from the immersion. See where I am going? There are a lot of things one can do in real life that aren't in a video game.

If you haven't noticed, PD0 let's you go up and down over reasonably-sized obstacles when you approach them. In my opinion that is sufficient. However, to those people whose idea of effective strategy is jumping around in multiplayer games, then I can see how they would be unhappy. I would note that you don't see a lot of soldiers, police officer, or SWAT teams employing that technique.

I am not saying jumping shouldn't be in any game, but in the context of PD0 it works fine without it.

But still, you wouldn't read a review that was labeled as "Highly Recommended", but you would if it had the number 7 next to it?

There are heaps of '9' games I don't buy because after actually reading the review content *gasp!* I know the game wouldn't interest me. Still, whatever floats your boat..

I'll read reviews if a game getting high scores, but it's not in a genre I like all that much, i.e. racing, FPS, sports, etc. to see if it's maybe one of the few games in that genre I might enjoy.

If it's in a genre I love (especially if it's a sequel) and is getting high scores across the board. I usually won't bother reading any of the reviews since I can be pretty sure I'll like it.

Sure I would. Highly Recommended is the same as a 9, or 4 stars, or 3.5 or what have you. It's a summary of the rating. Give me a summary of the rating, and I'll be happy. I don't care if it stars, pink moons, green clovers, or red balloons.

In Kameo, I found a pearl in a clam shell, what exactly do I do with it? All I seem to be able to do is roll it around.

Okay. It's just that that's what I said I'd do in my original post, and you said that wasn't sufficient for you to read my hypothetical site.

I don't have a problem with summary ratings -- I just dislike arbitrary summary ratings. "Rent It" means something. "6.4" doesn't. Sure, there may be a guide that says "6.0 - 6.9: Rent It", but how do you arrive at 6.4 specifically? I hate sifting through all the flame wars on other forums where people get hung up on the numbers and ignore the reviews. More descriptive, meaningful ratings would ease a lot of that, and it'd also ease off skewed ratings where virtually nothing ranks below a 6. (If your scale for all intents and purposes begins at 6, why have a 10 point scale?)

I have my selections to COD2, and one of the driving games after playing Madden and PD0, and reading the reviews about Gun.

I am leaning towards PGR2, but I am unsure about the drifting racing. I really didn't like the drifting of Ridge Racers in the past, although I played the last one and it wasn't too bad. All of my driving games have been sony, so I am more used to the GT series, and midnight club. I believe Forza is like the Xbox equivilent of GT and NFS being like Midnight club, is this correct?

Get PGR3. Especially if you are going to be on Live. It is an excellent blend of arcade and sim racers, not as arcadey as Midnight Club but not near the sim of GT. The drifting is not a core component of the game. They still reward you for proper (read: fast) driving techniques.

Ok, I'm playing NBA 2K6, and I don't know if it's my game or the 360, but the game "stutters" quite often, in the commentary and also sometimes when dunking. In addition, during timeouts or quarter breaks, sometimes it doesn't cut to the players walking back to the bench but just shows the court with the players just standing there. The drive also seems to be running a lot more than while playing PD0. Anyone else have this problem?

Are there any arcade style golf games for Xbox or 360? Not simulation like Tiger Woods, but more cartoony like Hot Shots Golf for Playstation...

Not yet.

edit: oops, misread that and thought you were asking only about the 360. See the post below mine.

#1 Anyone have SOUND issues with King Kong? Right before the "Sacrifice" chapter, the sound went all distorted. It sounded like a BIG echo and it made the game unplayable. I restarted the game and it fixed itself, but then it went back to being annoying. I had to shut the game off it was THAT bad and loud. My receiver goes from 0 - 105 (loud to quiet) and my normal listening volume is -45 to -50. However, King Kong was STILL too loud and annoying at like -80.

Just curious if anyone else had this problem? It is a rental, so maybe it's just a BAD disc and I can get a replacement.

#2 - Anyone having issues with chatting on Call of Duty 2? No one could hear my voice on LIVE. I had to invite my friend to a private chat just so I could chat during the game (and we were on the same team). Also, I could not hear anyone else....but I know my mic is working. Also, no ROOM creation? what's up with that?

fujishig, I've played 2K6 more than any of my other games, and haven't experienced these things

Crap, that's not good.

I played a little more. Even elevated that damned power brick just to minimize overheating. There is still a slight pause at times right when a player is about to dunk. The other "delays" are usually things like commentary, when I'm speeding through the "cutscenes" animations and the commentary is lagging behind (like when someone gets fouled, there's usually a scene of the player who fouled arguing or looking dejected, then a closeup of the guy who's shooting the freethrow while the announcers say who committed the foul, etc. I usually just keep pressing the buttons to skip this stuff, and it seems like I have to wait for the commentary to finish before I can proceed).

I really hope my Xbox is not buggy... I guess I'll find out when I crack open PGR...

Well, I've played a good amount of games:

Call of Duty 2 - GREAT game, single player is fun...amazing game. LIVE play is ok, needs some work, like the ability to CREATE a room. I also had headset issues (see above)

Tiger Woods - Fun gof game, I really like it. Graphics are great. Gameplay is good, not too tough. I never really played TWoods though before.

Madden 06 - Mixed feelings. I don't care that they stripped all the little features. Graphics are GREAT, gameplay is just average. The controls don't seem spot on, but I'm adjusting and I like it. Playing through my franchise....I can fire Mooch today hahaha

Condemned - FUN game, very creepy. I'm really enjoying this one. Seems like it will be short, already through 4 chapters after about 2-3 hours of gameplay.

Quake 4 - (never played the PC version) I think the game is pretty good. Seems almost like a Doom 3 clone, but refined a little more. The LIVE play is decent, better than Doom 3, but not my cup of tea really. Small LIVE levels and fast typical Quake play. I like it though, probably the game I play least.

Perfect Dark 0 - Oh yeah, GameRush does not have it yet!

NHL 2K6 - (rental) I thought this was a GREAT hockey game, not leaps and bounds above the XBOX version, but still better. Gameplay seems to be a bit faster now and graphics are good. Fun game, I may pick it up (or X-mas present)

King Kong - (rental) WOW, graphics are amazing. The gameplay is ok...nothing too great, but fun. Some small puzzles to solve. I had to stop playing though because of sound issues (see above post). It was SO bad, I had to stop playing. The game did seem really good though.

I haven't experienced any problems with my copy either and I've played it a ton. I was already a big fan of the 2K basketball games, and the player models in this game (including the uniforms) are amazing.

I am really having a good time with Kameo so far. The boss battles are a bit stressing but I am loving the rest of the game.

Spoiler:
I agree that getting Deep Blue to go where you want can really REALLY suck. That battle with Coralis (sp?) drove me nuts this morning. I tried fighting him for over an hour before I had to leave for work today. I was so stressed after it all my hands were shaking and my back was sore from leaning toward the TV. Then I came home, sat down and beat him in less than 5 minutes. I guess I just needed a break to gather my thoughts.

I also bought NFS:MW tonight since my buddy is having so much fun with it. I figure that is I get this.....then he can get Tiger Woods so we can something other than Perfect Dark online.

I'm loving Condemned but I refuse to play when I'm alone. I might be called a chicken but it's better for my health this way. I want to send it back to GamenFlix soon so I might wait until dawn to play it more.

So, no one has had any sound issues with King Kong? I want to play it more, but it keeps resorting back to that horrendous sound.
