Where's Rallisport Challenge 2?
|
Half my games aren't on the list. You're not doing a good job of selling me, MS...
|
They need to make a mailing list of sorts for this. That way you can sign up to be notified when certain games are added to the list. Looking over this list every week or so is gonna suck.
|
No Top Spin too!!! :(
|
No Fatal Frame games? Atsa spicy meatball!

I enjoyed reading this quote:
One of the great things about gaming on Xbox 360 is the satisfaction of knowing that every game will be playable in high definition. We are now proud to reveal that this extends to the original Xbox games as well. Every original Xbox game will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360’s anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture that is clearer and crisper than anything available on Xbox. |
Does that page also mention the rumor I;ve heard? That to play any of the original xbox games, you must have the hard drive for the 360.

Yes. You have to install the "emulation software" to the hard drive. I got this from Gamespot: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6139702.html "However, there is a catch. To play an Xbox game on the 360, players must first insert the current-gen game into a next-gen console hooked up to Xbox Live. The system will check if the console has the latest emulation software. If not, it will automatically download said software, install it on the 360, restart, and load the original Xbox game. Obviously, a 360 hard drive--which comes with the Halo and Halo 2 software preinstalled--is required for the backwards-compatibility software. For 360 owners who either can't or won't log onto Xbox Live, Microsoft offers two other solutions. First, they can go to Xbox.com, download the emulators, burn them onto a CD, and then insert said CD into the 360, which will auto-install the software. The other option is to order a free CD from Xbox.com which will be mailed to the requestor for a "nominal" fee. However, the CD will be mailed out for free to Japanese 360 owners." |
Damn, I thought for certain Burnout Revenge would be playable. I guess maybe they will not create an emulator for this game since it is due out for the 360 at a later date.

Wow, there is a lot of games absent. I knew it would be difficult for them to do, but based on MS comments I assumed they had it figured out. Starting to look a look a lot like the original xbox launch. Lots of promises that don't get fullfilled until 3.5 years after it comes out. I sure hope they get their shit together, they need to put Sony on the scramble.
|
Damn it...the only game I really really wanted to be BC (oddworld: strangers wrath), isn't on the list.
Why bother with titles like Fifa 2k3 and 2k4, when you could be working on Exclusive titles? |
Here's a good interview regarding the compatability. Right now they are at about 25%, hopefully they can reach at least 60% within 2 years and at least cover the more popular games. (DOAU/X, Doom 3, Far Cry, KUF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, the Splinter Cell series, the SW: Battlefront series, etc.)

Looks like none of the ESPN 2k series have been included except for Soccer. Not to bad of a list to start with, there are several games I have in which I did not expect to see though. I wonder how much the original publisher is responible for helping in coding the backwards compatiblilty.
|
How big are these emulation files? Just wondering if you will end up filling your whole hard drive if you have too many old games you want to play.
|
The interview states that they're only around 5megs.
|
I think it will be interesting how often they are able to update that list. If it's every month or two, versus 6 months to a year. If they can add games on a regular basis, it wouldn't be too bad. I know if I purchased an XBox360 I probably wouldn't be popping in my old games for some time.

Pretty good list, I was just surprised that some of the newer games that aren't on the list. |
WTF... why is Buffy: Chaos Bleeds on there and not the original. CB sucked. :)
I can't believe JSRF isn't on there either! Also they're missing quite a few very popular titles (such as the Burnout series). Catwoman being on there is just an insult. |
That ESPN soccer game is not part of 'the series'. That's Konami's game, not Sega's/Take 2's.
Considering that posters all around internet messageboards thought it would just be the Halos and Fable on Day 1, this list is surprisingly good, even though it's bloated by the dregs of the Xbox library. (In hindsight, it's not surprising, since the bottom of the barrel games probably do not push the original hardware in any fashion... thus instant emulation when successfully targetting the more ambitious.) |
I would think that new titles would be a priority to confirm BC for. That means bigger software sales. I was considering a Half-Life 2 purchase but wanted to wait until I knew if it would play on the 360 or not. The Xbox isn't dead. There'll still be a new title here and there that I'll want to pick up, and I'm not going to want to play it on the old Xbox if my 360 is hooked up.
|
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Indigo Prophecy, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath  |
Suprised that anything that's not a Platinum Collection isn't automatically on this list. Very disappointed that X-Men Legends I and II, Spider-Man 2, and the Splinter Cell games aren't already on this list!!
|
I still don't understand why many of you are buying a new system to play old games!?! -confused-
That's a step backwards. :horse: -ohbfrank- |
What is so hard to understand? Just because a new system comes out the other doesn't magically disappear and cease to exist.
1.) Unfinished games I currently own 2.) All 360 games will run SRP for a while, so in between big purchases I can snag some Xbox games for a bargain. 3.) It would be nice to sell the old box to cut into the price of the new one 4.) Games that will still get play regardless if they are "old" Halo 2, Burnout series, etc. As I mentioned in the other thread: Battlefront 2 Destroy All Humans Mercenaries Republic Commando Advent Rising Psychonauts Conker's Bad Fur Day Prince of Persia 2: Warrior Within Project Snowblind Every one of those were released this past year and all of which I've been waiting to pick up on the cheap. Glad I hung onto my box. |

That's a step backwards. :horse: -ohbfrank- I have games on my Xbox that I'll still want to play. NCAA Football 06 for example... there's no next gen version of that until next summer. I don't want both systems hooked up in my living room if I can help it, so I'd prefer that the 360 be able to play it. Also, as the Xbox starts to come to an end, no doubt that 1) New games should get a touch cheaper, and B) used games will be plentiful. For the next 6 months or so, there won't be an amazing amount of new 360 games that I'll want to play, but there WILL be regular Xbox games that I'll want to check out. Eventually I'd like to trade in my Xbox or sell it. But before that happens, I want to be sure that the older games I still enjoy will be playable on the new system. So to some of us, this whole BC stuff makes perfect sense. |

With half of my games not on that list, they're practically begging me to mod my XBox so that I can eliminate the most likely failure point. I wouldn't pirate any games; it would just be an insurance policy. |

I thought there was a recent article saying they found a work around for that? |

Would you guys mind posting the games you have that aren't listed? I would be curious to see what games you have that aren't going to be backward-compatable on launch.
As for me, I've got Halo, Halo 2, Test Drive: Eve of Destruction all ready to go. I hope that the Midway arcade classics get added, becuase those are some pretty sweet collections. Otherwise, I'll be happy w/ the new games. |

My biggest complaints are RallyeSport games, PGR, and the ones I posted earler. As someone pointed out, a lot of the games that are supported are the crap games that don't push the current xbox, so they are easier to bring over. I'm sure titles like Halo were top priority and thats why they made it already. |

Xbox.com: What about saved games as well as free and purchased downloadable content? Will that be transferable to Xbox 360? Todd: Content will not be transferable from Xbox to Xbox 360, including saved data and downloadable content. However, all free downloadable content for original Xbox games plus premium content for Halo 2 will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace for free. Xbox 360 owners will be able to get this free with an Xbox Live Silver or Gold membership. |
I've gotten rid of most of my older Xbox games but i was suprised to not see the Midway Arcade Treasures supported. They are something i will definately be holding onto.
|
Could it be that some publishers dont want their games to be 360 compatible so they can sell you a 'new and improved' XBox 360 version? Could the publishers do that?

It's just going to take time to get more games certified as BC. People have to sit and test these games all the way through in order to confirm that they'll work on the 360, and so it'll take time to do this. I bet by January we'll see another 200+ titles added to that list. |
Games I own not on the list:
X-Men Legends I & II Spider-Man 2 Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay Star Wars Jedi Starfighter Midway Treasures Vol 2 LotR: Two Towers Splinter Cell Series Enter the Matrix Path of Neo Lego Star Wars That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Xhonzi Oh, also: Mechwarrior Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 |
