I also started playing it last night, when I decided that my wife was neglecting the dog by not playing with it too much.

I agree that the mic could be a little better, but my dog did respond to most of my commands. I only played it for a little over an hour, but I taught him to sit, lie, and to chase his tail.

There is so much that you can do with this game, it is amazing. Oh yes, I did see the Animal Crossing ad in the back of the game booklet, So looking forward to that title.

That's awesome. I just taught my bitch to backflip. She can't land on all fours though so she stumbles.

The Dachsund & friends version has the pug available right away. I went with the Dachsund (weiner dog), and called him Oscar, as in Oscar Meyer

I was wondering when the Hot Coffee mod would be out.

I'm doing pretty good on the game. I have nearly 2000 trainer points and I have taught the dog 10 tricks including the back flip which is very cool. I have also found some neat items like the clown wig, naptime record, santa hat, toy mushroom and bark ball. I'm liking the disc competition, but really have no interest in the other two.

That's how you do it, but I don't think you can officially teach it to your dog. I've never seen the light bulb pop up when I get my puppy to do it.

EDIT:

I just tried it again since it's been a while since I've done it just to see, and this time I did get the light bulb! Does this mean that you can only teach your dog certain tricks if you have higher TP?

I taught my dog the "Breakdance" move a couple days ago. For me it was a combination of "Play dead" and "Chase your tail". Funny.

Does anyone want to make a list of commands that are not available in the initial training book that they have figured out?

I haven't had any trouble with the mic - it's exceeded my expectations, if anything. I'm surprised at how organic, aside from menus and the like, the interaction can feel in Nintendogs.

Oh my God:

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/nitendo...ne-week-123340

The numbers are in and people really do love Nintendogs. The DS-only puppy simulator sold about 250,000 copies in its first week, according to Nintendo. Tendo goes on to say that the game is both America’s hottest selling video game and the best-selling new game franchise ever to hit a portable system. (Both statements are based on Nintendo’s internal tracking of sales, the independent numbers won’t hit for a week or two.)

Nearly 15 percent of all DS owners bought Nintendogs in just a week, a virtually unprecedented adoption rate for any title on an established system. And it’s also helping sell new DS hardware. Coupled with a price drop to $129.99, retailers are reporting DS sales up between one and a half and three times previous levels, and last week DS comfortably outsold our portable competitors

It looks like the game is well on its way to having the same impact on the gaming market here that it did when it hit Japan. Just goes to show that gamers are hungry for games that break the mold. Let’s hope that developers and publishers are paying attention.

the best-selling new game franchise to hit a portable? Is this by sheer numbers, or by percentage of games sold compared to systems? Because I have a hard time believing anything could beat Pokemon.

Key words: "new game franchise". When Pokemon was first introduced it must not have been an instant hit. (Or less marketing, whatever.) You get my point.

So to answer your question, its by raw numbers.

According to the training book, that appears to be the case. You can not teach your dog to "stand" on his hind legs until you have X amount of points. I dont know what that is, and I have just started to get my dog to "stand" although I have been able to make it stand a few times.

It has been hard to divide my time between this and Advance Wars DS. I also bought another dog, and having two dogs in your house makes it a lot more difficult to train one of them, figured out a few days later to put one in the hotel.

I have 1600 TP.

Pokemon was far from an instant hit. If anything Nintendo was hesitant to release it in the US. I picked it up and loved it as an RPG. Only many months later did the marketing really hit and all the card and cartoon tie ins.

So Nintendogs definitely has a faster start than Pokemon originally did in the US.

How do you pick up the packages that you sometimes see while going on walks? I'm not talking about the ones that show up on the map, but the ones that just show up on the street while you're walking. I've missed the two that I've seen so far. Do you just tap them with the stylus? My dog was walking so quickly, and I've seen them so infrequently that I didn't have time to react.

Although I've never done it myself (since I'm almost always not paying attention while walking my nintendog) i think you have to pull back on the leash to make the dog stop when the package is on the screen.

Also, how does your dog get better at the events? By going to the park and playing frisbee? my dog still can't catch for beans...

Thanks, that seems to be how you do it - frantically jerk back on the leash, giving your dog blunt neck trauma, all for a green frisbee. I guess I'll have to start paying more attention during walks.

I'm pretty sure that practicing at the park is the way to improve your dog's frisbee skills. I've just gone to the park twice and my dog seems to be quite a bit better.

If you keep your eye on the map during walks your dog will stop near a present or trash. Just watch when you stop. I've got nine breeds unlocked and a bunch of items but still haven't upgraded my house. I think I have around 2300 trainer points.
