I believe that the new PS2 chipset that is running in the new 75001 series PS2s is the same one that Sony will be using in PS3. Because of this, I have added the Incompatible Games list to the games section (first page) based on this assumption.

Those who chose to wait in line for the premium showing were given a Valkyrie Profile calendar and were treated exclusively to a third trailer. This mysterious trailer starts off with the title "Valkyrie Profile," then breaks off into footage that looks far too good to be a PS2 game but not solid enough to be pre-rendered CG. We got the feeling that we were seeing a next generation installment in the Valkyrie Profile series, but when we asked the staff on hand, they seemed to genuinely not know what we were talking about.
This trailer was shown after the remake for PSP and new game for PS2. One can only assume that a new game in the series is headed for PS3.

That is pure speculation on your part. If you're going to add it into the Incompatible games list, please add that's it's speculative as some people might hold it as being official.

AQ Interactive will be developing a game called Vampire's Rain for the PS3:

And I also added that stipulation to the incompatible games list, per your request.

UT 2007 will be a PS3 launch title and be PS3/PC exclusive.

Its funny after seeing that pic of the controller it reminds me of

I have one of these in my closet from the original Playstation made by Alps interactive. I got it for free since we couldnt sell them in the store. Well its not that we couldn't but they just didn't sell. Even after the markdowns so eventually the employees took them home.

Yeah, and there is going to be another lawsuit down the road and Sony will need another style remote for the PS4, probably something like this:

It has just been announced that Japan and US will share the same region for Blu-Ray disc. This means that any Japanese game will work perfectly in a US PS3 without mod (and vice versa). All you fans of Anime, J-RPG, and quirky titles can now rejoice.

That seems to only apply to movies so far. It doesn't mean they won't make games region specific via some other means.

Yeah, the article is specific about it being a movie region and only states that games could be a "possibility." Hell, Japan and Europe are both Region 2 for DVD but you can't play Japanese games on a European PS2.. so it doesn't really mean much.

You don't have to do a lot of reaching to come to this conclusion. Current regions are shared by games and movies. Does anyone really think they will require games to use one region and movies to be another? What is going to happen when they put bonus footage on games - like they did for God of War? Are they really going to have the game be one region and the movie be another region? A two region disc? I don't think so.

And the reason for Region 2 Japan and Region 2 Europe movies/games not working is because Japan is NTSC and Europe is PAL. There is no such division with HD.

Well, it would be very, very nice if it turns out to be true for games. Hell, I think it is cool enough that they are doing it for movies. I just wish they would get rid of region encoding all together.

Wow! Both ATi and Microsoft have said the PS3 is crap. They must be right! I'm not going to buy a PS3 now. Thanks for that link.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize this thread was only to provide positive information regarding the Playstation 3 rather then general news and opinions about the console and the hardware. It hardly stated that the PS3 was crap; I thought the information on graphics was interesting. How was that a threadcrap?

It wasn't a threadcrap.

It didn't bash the PS3 and even said that the graphics chip is very powerful but they didn't think that it was as specialized as it could have been.

On the other hand, the MGS4 promo video speaks for itself, as far as graphics capability.

For the same reason that posting any "opinion" about the PS3 from Microsoft is a threadcrap. You are posting a biased "opinion" from a person who is trying to sell the Xbox 360. This person has a financial interest in badmouthing the PS3 - no matter how slight it is.

I don't care what news you wish to post in this thread, but propaganda is not news.

Moves and Games don't use the same region coding.. even if the PS3 can play movies from the US and Japan that does not mean it'll play games from both territories (but it doesn't mean it won't either). Until it's specifically stated otherwise, I'm still betting on me having to buy a mod-chip or some other silly device in order to play the kinds of games I enjoy that Sony of America denies publishing rights to here, a practice which is both sad and baffling but I guess that's the state of the industry they've built here.

I'm pretty sure current DVDs use the same regional coding for any media - regardless if that is a movie, game, or music. But if you want to remain cynical about the situation, feel free to proceed.

Hey, it's not cynicism. Games don't use the same region coding as movies. If you have proof otherwise, please let me know. As for the NTSC/PAL issue, it's not that cut and dry. They've got TVs that can run an NTSC signal and RGB monitors are popular over there and there are games released there that even have a 50/60hz option if you've got the equipment. But you still can't play Japanese games with these options even though Japan and Europe are both movie region 2.

Looking at my DVD colection, all my US DVDs are Region 1 and all my Japanese DVDs are Region 2.

Looking at my game collection, all my US games are Region 1 and all my Japanese games are Region 2.

Coincidence? I tried to find anything on this at the DVD Forum website, but they only have a one sentence line in their charter about requiring regional coding. Not sure who the official source for this info is.

And I don't belive the PAL/NTSC is an issue with digital TVs receiving a digital input. Analog signal has frequency (50/60hz) and digital signals have Mbits.

I would hardly consider that bad mouthing, unless you're just so overly sensitive to any comments regarding the PS3's capabilities that you feel you have to defend it regardless of who says it. Again, it wasn't a thread crap. I thought it was interesting enough to post here, moreso on how the PS3's graphics chip ended up, rather then ATI guy saying that 360 would be better in the long run.

Lighten up.

EDIT: But for the sake of your rules, i'll delete the post.

I really think you are missing the point. You say "I thought it was interesting enough to post here, moreso on how the PS3's graphics chip ended up" as if this guy from ATi knows how the graphics chip ended up. He's never seen it, nor has he ever used it. If he had - he wouldn't be able to talk about it anyway. I don't care if said it was the best GPU ever - it is still a baseless comment made by a person who not only has no idea what they are talking about (in terms of the RSX) but also has a general interest in skewing the facts, even if he did have them.

The only thing interesting about the article is that some guy from ATi would take time to comment on an nVidia product. I don't see how that is relative here.
