Not that I am complaining. The game looks like a lot of work has gone into it. It's looking to be shaping up very nicely.
I do kind of hope that this game releases around the same time as PS3. Why? I no longer own a Playstation 2 and dont really want to buy one again. I sold off this generations systems to help pay for this upcoming generations systems. I have been living off only the DS for months which actually hasnt been half bad this fall. Some nice titles. But, if the PS3 is postponed to next fall for next falls holiday season, I will have to. I dont want to wait months and months to play it if its released in the spring.
I barely get that way about games (very few which tend to be highly popular titles), but I wont be waiting with this one. Im getting it on release day.

I don't think Sony cares much about having a spectacular launch lineup. They know they'll sell assloads of these things even if they launch with half-asses graphics fireworks demos.

What are you talkin' about? Fantavison ruled!Of course, I bought Suggler's Run, which wasn't much better.
And though there wasn't anything spectacular at the PS2's launch (besides maybe SSX), the PS1 had Twisted Metal and Ridge Racer at launch, so that wasn't shabby at all.

Because I wouldnt want to wait from Spring all the way until Fall to play it. There will be no Playstation 3 to purchase yet at that time if its pushed off. Hope that makes sense.

Our Best Buy store requires that items be sent in for service before paying out on the replacement plan. So, that kind of kills that idea.
Funny thing is when I purchased a graphing calculator a few years ago, the salesperson actually told me to buy the replacement plan, use the item, and then return it after the semester and buy cd's. I couldn't believe it. I am dead serious. I didnt do that though.
Maybe I will just see if someone will let me borrow theirs for a week or two who doesnt use it. But, hopefully everything stays on schedule and that way there will be no problems.
I also plan on pre-ordering as soon as they start taking pre-orders. Hopefully from somewhere legitimate this time that wont knock my pre-order out after six months because I paid in full. Huh? Yep, I thought the same thing.

What Walmart (and others) should do is tell everyone in advance to show up at 11pm the night of the launch. Everyone present at 11:30pm receives a number. Following, a random drawing is held as to who gets to buy the system at midnight.
I recognize this potentially screws those willing to wait in line, but I really do think this would be a superior system by providing increased safety and sanity.

Of course a lot of stores haven't filled all their 360 pre-orders yet, but at least those people know they'll eventually get one without having to check stores repeatedly.

Jeff that would make way too much sense and be way too easy.
Here's my much better solution: Sony will ship out an unknown number of PS3s. Tons of people will camp out at stores days early. The manager knows how many PS3s they have, and knows it's way too few for the people waiting, but doesn't inform anyone in the crowd of this. The crowd devises their own numbering system based on who got there first. At midnight, the manager refuses to recognize the numbering system and says whoever can run to a bin in the back and grab one then bring it up to the front will be able to buy it.

I don't think anyone will take preorders until the date and price are set. I'm hoping for info during the CES show in January.

I don't think we'll see a price or release date at CES. Sony isn't going to reveal a Japanese release date and price at an American show. What we (hopefully) find out is an online network plan, and some playable demos of games.
There has to be an upcoming games show in Japan where they can make an announcement. Otherwise, they'll just have a press conference.

I will be pre-ordering this from a more legitimate place this time. I may even pre-order from two places just so I dont get tossed under the carpet again.
We would also like to thank some of the idiotic people in the trading forum for providing us a really good laugh. Sell a PS3 with sharp rug tooler weapons and they even believe this. Oh lord.

"With eight decoupled SPU SIMD engines, each with dedicated resources including DMA channels, the Cell BE has eight times more SIMD capability (for up to 16-way data parallelism) than traditional processors with vector architecture extensions, such as the PPC970 in the G5. The PPE is also free to process other applications even while all SPUs are in use. The Cell BE can perform especially well in cases where a general-purpose processor would normally get tied up by a single SIMD application. With its performance density and efficiency, the Cell BE can outperform leading-edge processors on a variety of workloads by approximately an order of magnitude, in some cases more, when software is tuned and optimized for this architecture."
I love it when tech articles talk dirty

I distinctly remember seeing preorder signs up and thinking that it was crazy because we had no idea how much the system would really be...

Scroll down and watch the "Motorstorm" video. The developer confirms that it was running real-time on a PS3, though with the AI and physics turned off. So it was running in game engine, but somewhat disabled. I hope they can stuff all those turned off processes inside the Cells so it doesn't affect how the game looks, but that will have to wait to be seen.
