Can any of you confirm that 360 games have an MSRP of 59.99? That's what they're preselling for on Amazon.com.

If that's the case, then I say "Boo-urns"!

That's the rumor....EBGAMES has them for that price too. Pretty much "unofficially" confirmed for a lack of better words

Prices will go up next generation with the possible exception of in game advertising driving prices down. (To where they are now) Without exact numbers its hard to say if the advertising will only bring it to $60 or lower.

One thing that is is certain is costs will go up on next generation systems. Game creation is expected to last at least 2 years per game with bigger games taking up to 4 years, this is contrast with the avergage of 18-20 months currently.

I think even if the 360 games are $60, the PS3 and Revolution games will launch at $50 and force them to drop.

The next gen games could very well be $60 each to start and if the industry is doing well at that pricepoint, who's to say they would lower it.

Ultimately the consumers will dictate the prices.

Yep, everyone is willing to throw the extra $5-$10 for "special editions", so we've already said we are WILLING to pay more

But that doesn't necessarily show that they'll pay more for "plain" games rather than "special editions."

That remains to be seen.

I question the success of these LE's anyway. I still see an awful lot of new Halo 2 LEs around as well as the RE4 ones.

Yup, that's my point.
It doesn't matter if the games are the standard version or the special editions. If the manufacturers like the revenues they are seeing at the pricepoint they are setting, why should they lower their prices?

I'm not that impressed with the Call of Duty screenshots. If it gets hot, do the soldier's pants melt? They appear to made of plastic.

I agree, and I imagine 360 games well launch at a higher price as a result.

But if the first party Sony and Nintendo games are $50 it will pressure them to lower their prices.

I'm not that worried about higher prices because other than 2 or 3 game series like Zelda, there's nothing I'll pay more than $20 for so I'm largely unaffected, other than perhaps having a slightly longer wait for games to drop into my price range.

I don't see MS launching games above $50. DVD media is very cheap to produce and their margins still have to be there.

Does Sony's drive support the DVD format? If it's only blu-ray, their cost of media will go up and could drive up their COGs making them consider a higher price point. Of course they will bite the bullet if everyone else still sells at $50.

Probably so. Microsoft may sell all the 360 games at launch at $60 each just to "test the water". Then once the PS3 is ready to street, announce that the 360 games have "all been marked down to the ridiculously low price of $50."

It would have to support CD and DVD formats or else it couldn't be backwards compatible with the PS1 and PS2.

Xbox 360 Launch Date: November 4th 2005

http://www.xbox365.com/news.cgi?id=GGuGPrLGrr07140635

According to a slip-up on the Microsoft Partner site, Microsoft (by mistake) has announced (and quickly removed the infomation) the launch date of Xbox 360 as November 4 - 2005.

The Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system places you at the center of the experience. Available this holiday season, Xbox 360 ignites a new era of digital entertainment that is always connected, always personalized, and always in high definition.

If I recall correctly, it was a couple weeks later. I want to say it launched on 9/15 and the Gamecube on 9/18. At any case I'm pretty sure it was somewhere in the teens and that they were 3 days apart.

I remember waiting in line at 7 am on a Sunday morning at KMART, to buy the Gamecube. So the Xbox would have been launched on a Thursday.

Was it September or November?
Anyway, I also remember the day being somewhere in the teens too.

Setting aside Nov. 4 on the schedule right now.

November, brain fart when typing the date in. And yes, the X-box launched in the middle of the week and the GC on a weekend. I waited at midnight at Wal-mart to get my GC.

Ok, did a google search.

The X-box launched on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 and the GC on Sunday, Nov. 18 2001. So that's settled.

Xbox 360 falls into wrong hands

The son of a Microsoft employee gets first public crack at company's next-gen console and posts pictures on the Web.

With the advent of the Internet, gone are the days of teenagers sneaking through their parents' sock drawers for stimuli. Nowadays, being the coolest kid on the block (or the Web) takes a lot more than some smut.

Imagine this scenario: A young gamer's stepfather gets a job at Microsoft testing top secret hardware. Said stepfather returns home with an Xbox 360. Now the kid is eyeing the box like fat campers do a pack of Twinkies. Of course it's not too hard to picture what happened next. However, it's even easier to picture with photographic evidence.

The youngster, who says he is 16 years old, had a friend snap some pictures of him playing with the 360 (apparently with his father's permission, according to the post) and then posted the photos (see inset) on GameSpot's forums, which have since been deleted. The poster says his father is in charge of making sure the power supply doesn't "explode."

The first picture shows the culprit in a suspiciously barren apartment with the 360 standing inverted next to him on the floor (the wires sticking out of the console are apparently used for hardware testing). The second picture depicts the same scene from a different angle, this one showing the Halo 2 title screen on a small monitor. The final screen shows the Xbox 360 launch screen on the monitor.

He goes on in his posts to tout the hardware and preinstalled programs, including the 360's dashboard and other features of the console. He also describes the unit's multimedia functions, including streaming music to a PC.

Reportedly, the hardware is or is near complete. The post also described the external power supply as being "not compact."

Assuming the pictures and reports are authentic, it sheds some light on some previously gray areas. If, in fact, the unit was playable, the Xbox 360 is indeed on its way to its holiday release date. Backward compatibility also appears to be coming along nicely with Halo 2 (unless there is an original Xbox hidden under the pillow, which is the lone piece of furniture in the room).

While some may grumble that this is actually a viral marketing ploy by Microsoft to show that the 360 is indeed on the way, it's more likely a great example of how to get your stepfather fired.

No surprise there, damn RE4 was awesome and only sold 1/2 million, apparently many gamecube owners are morons.
