The thing that bothers me, is the boss fights aren't really hidden, you just run into them, fight them, then get the item. Is this how the whole game is? Are the only hidden things now missles/health containers/etc... ??
There is plenty of things besides missles hidden. More so then Prime IMO. You will use you new abilities to find more in previously entered areas. as well as new.

This is only true of Metroid and Metroid II. In Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Prime and Metroid Zero Mission all major upgrades are essentially found in a linear fashion and most of the time protected by a not-so-hidden boss. Super Metroid and Zero Mission both have a degree of freedom to this, but typically never discovered through the initial play-through.

I guess you're right, for some reason, it just seems a little more linear to me this time. Maybe it's just due to the last one I played was Zero Mission.

Anyway, am I the only one seeing all the jaggies? Is the progressive scan exposing jaggies you normally wouldn't see?

Prime and so far Prime 2 are VERY linear. If you've just played Zero Mission that will be insanely obviously as there is ALWAYS two ways around everything in Zero Mission and very few items are actually required to finish it.

Hmm, I guess it has a linear design (get item, find where to use item to advance), and you must do these in order, but the fact that you must explore to find your next path makes it non-linear?

The bosses in this game are BRUTAL.

I have nightmares thinking about playing this on HARD MODE.

Just got the Grapple Beam.

Are they still in Austin? I remember their office used to be in the business center I work in. I passed it everyday on the way to work. That was a few years ago.

Just beat the boss of the third temple last night. It's not that he's really that tough, but trying to figure out exactly what to do to beat him... ugh! What made it bearable was the fact that he kept leaving behind the ultra power ups (+100 health) whenever you damaged him. He wasn't as bad as the boss of the second temple though. By the time I figured out how to defeat him, my energy was pretty low. I had to kill so much time just avoiding attacks and sitting in the "light" bubble to recharge my energy. I mean,
Spoiler:
it only made sense that you have to target the red circles on his wings, but how was I supposed to know that you need to aim from behind?
Anyway, it seems like I'm not too far from the end now. Too bad some of the best weapons/upgrades don't show up until close to the end.

Content-wise, I'm probably close to the end, but time-wise I guess I've still got a little while to go. I'm collecting keys to gain access to [what I believe is] the final area, much like collecting the Artifacts from Metroid Prime 1. Some of the clues to find the keys are pretty vague, and its taking me awhile to find them all.

Oh yeah, I don't really like the logbook/inventory system. It seems a little tedious to navigate.

I've got a question folks. If I enjoyed Halo 2, would I enjoy Metroid? I don't have a gamecube (I picked one up for my niece for Christmas but would consider picking one up for myself ) Thanks for any replies, and this is a thread-detractor, I apologize

Not necessarily. Halo is a FPS whereas Metroid is more of an adventure game. Although it is in the first person perspective, it does not play like a typical shooter. It involves a lot of exploring and backtracking. For what it's worth, my friends that have and love Halo have a lot of trouble with the Metroid control scheme. They're really too different to compare.

I've been trying to avoid this thread due to spoilers but just wanted to vent. Due to the holidays and lack of time I decided to actually wait for a good deal on this game. Well I was about to take advantage of EB's trade in five get a free game deal. Well I get there all excited and walk in with 6 games (just in case they don't accept one), and all of them were excluded. None of them were sports games. Argghh... When did they get so strict on the trading in. I remember being able to trade in almost any non-sports game. They showed me a list of the excluded games on which none of my games were listed. But the computer did exclude them and the list was dated back in september. Oh well, I guess it is my own fault for getting my hopes up.

Anyways, sorry to high jack the thread. Go back to playing Metroid you lucky bastards.

Well, I played the original on a regular big screen TV (no progressive in) and am playing Echoes on my Widescreen w/progressive scan, and honestly, it doesn't look all that different to me. And while there is an option to widen the display in Echoes, I still end up having to stretch the screen somewhat, so I end up with some oblong circles.

If you want to play it in widescreen, i'd suggest going to the screen setting and squish it down as much as possible before switching your TV into widescreen mode. I keep reading people talking about stretching their HUD but this has the opposite effect you'd want I would think. You're stretching the picture twice in effect, no? If you squish the picture (slider bar down to 0) then switch to widescreen, it will pull the picture back out to fill the TV with minimal distortion.

I finally got some *real* time to play over the long weekend. I really love this game. I got lost twice and spent a LOT of time scouring previous areas. First time I was convinced I needed Power Bombs and simply missed a slightly harder than usual to notice half-pipe. Second time, I was convinced what I needed would be in the area I was in due to last 3 hour fiasco and this time it really was in a previous area. My clear time is bound to be 5 or 6 hours over the normal first-time clear due to this. But I think I'm far enough in that chances of getting lost again are minimal.

Spoiler:
Just got the screw-attack! The instructions on its use threw me off and it took me a few minutes to figure out how to REALLY use it. The second encouter with Dark Samus was freakin' cool, but much to my disapointment, a bit easier than the other bosses so far. The next two times she better kill me at least once!

Side note
MP:Echoes is 37.88 at Target this week. Haven't decided whether or not to pick this up as I am still working on PRIME.

I think my final time will be much higher than average as well. At 20% I have about 5 1/2 hours. Of course this counts the time I sit in the light in dark world recovering energy. Sometimes I will surf the web while I recover and leave the game going. Just beat the first boss Amorbis, was pretty easy, I beat him on the second try. Really enjoying the exploration, and have been taking my time going back through each area as I get a new ability.

What "screen setting" are you talking about to squish the screen down? The only option I can find is for screen stretch, which seems to stretch the HUD.

Where did this come from?

Anyway, perhaps a launch title for the Revolution, although I would think a launch Zelda would be more powerful, yet unlikely.

I must be the world's most patient Metroid fan. I get my MP2 for X-mas via my brother. I guess the FREE compared to the $40-$50 is what keeps me going.
