This would push me over the edge on XBOX Live... if it was on the XBOX that is.
The main thing for me on this one would be the online play, and there is no way I'm investing in Sony's online solution.
Looks good though.

They are the reason I have been anticipating this game since it's announcement and have skipped BG: DA 2 entirely until it hits bargin bin. It helps that I dig the EQ universe as well, hopefully they used quite a bit of it.

Since the game is free to play online I'm not sure what the problem is? All you need ,if you have a PS2 that didn't come with the ethernet adapter, is to just buy one for $39.99. Unless you don't own a PS2 at all, then I could understand it not being worth it.

This one looks to be a lot of fun. I'm probably in (though I'm so far behind with new games right now I could easily be busy until the eventual price drop).

Yeah, the online possibilities are cool but setting up games may be lacking.....
I'm in it for the coop play that my wife and I enjoyed in BG
A but we're busy so we might also end up not getting to it until there is a price drop.

At least it's refreshing that there isn't any charges to play online. I mean, how many people has the money/time to justify monthly fees for this or other subscription based online games?

Free is great, but if this was on XBOX live I wouldn't have to worry (as much) about people cheating, dropping in and out of games, finding people who at least act like they are over 12 years old etc.
I'm not saying it is a bad game, or that Sony is bad, I'm just saying this would be a must buy for me on XBOX live (or with XBOX live type support from SONY) but for me it is probably a pass for now.
FWIW, I like Sony a lot better, I just hope they get the online play right next time around.

Well, FWIW, I know there are a lot of people who prefer Sony's set up just because there isn't any online fee (after the modem). Yes, there will be cheaters and quitters, but it will still likely be a lot of fun. I guess that the Everquest name had the potential to frighten a lot of consumers off, since the ads are boldly proclaiming Free Online Play.
BTW : In case there's anyone who doesn't realize it, Champions is a second-party Sony game and of course will not be coming to the Xbox.

Ive got to admit, after finally seeing how Xbox live looks and works, that Sony's system really sucks. I definately think its worth the 5 bucks a month just to be able to avoid all the hassles. Ill definately echo MrKen's sentiments that you'll be spending more time setting up a game then playing it. If this was on Xbox it would be the biggest thing since sliced bread.

Even though I'm definitely buying the game on Wednesday, I went ahead and bought the latest OPM because of the included demo. It rocks! Graphics, gameplay, music...everything is (almost) perfect. The only gripe that I have is that it's sometimes difficult to target enemies if you're primarily a spellcaster. But, that's only a small nitpick.

Also they have always said the game was single player first, with a tacked on online portion. Do I think the online portion is goofy if games are hard to get going? Yep, but online isn't and never was my main reason for buying this particular game.
*Wasn't directed at you, just a general statement.

Playing Champions of Norrath can be a little bittersweet. The core components that make up the game experience--the graphics, the sound, the actual gameplay--all come together to create an experience that is, across the board, better than the original Dark Alliance and better than any of Champions' current rivals. The game offers an enjoyable single-player and multiplayer experience, and there's enough to it to keep you entertained for a long, long time. That all of this fun is hampered somewhat by some noticeable bugs, which could have and should have been addressed before the game's release, is a shame. However, Champions of Norrath is still truly great, warts and all, and that speaks to the sheer quality of work that Snowblind has put into its latest game.

Champions of Norrath took a fun thing with Dark Alliance, reworked and polished it until it shined even more than before. The story is forgettable, but the action takes steps away from the button-mashing of other dungeon crawlers and brings more strategy into the genre. With the different strategies required for many of the enemies, and the huge amount of spells and items collect, the game constantly changes over time.
The real treat is the ability to play the game any way you want to and to be able to play with three other people off or online. The online functionality is still very new and a bit shaky, but works out great if you have a crew of dungeon crawler fans that you don't mind talking to for the next few weeks. If you had to pick between this and, say, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 or Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Snowblind's newest action-RPG is, without a doubt, the champion of them all.
