The deal is legit
It's been verified by a TRU manager over on the IGN GameCube boards. There is a TV commercial and it will be advertised in this Sunday's ad circular, which has already been printed.
The deal is buy 2, get 1 of equal or lesser value free. From what I've heard so far, the sale may also extend online, including selected preorders (this is based on info from the Toys R Us manager and experiences from similar previous sales). It doesn't look like they'll be allowing preorders in-store, but YMMV. Other than that the sale is open to any games in stock at the B&Ms. My suggestion is get there at opening on Sunday because it'll probably be slim pickings at the end of each week. They do this in the spring to clear inventory for the summer and in the fall to clear inventory for the holidays. As somebody noted, this is the first time GameCube and Xbox games have been included, however.
GameCube games - Oct. 19th-25th
Xbox and PS2 games - Oct. 26th-Nov 1st (can mix and match between these two platforms)

He's a longtime poster and has staked his reputation on it. Most of what he's said has been verified by others so I have no reason not to believe him. He's been feeding us information about it for a couple weeks now. And as others on this very board have said, TRU has run identical sales on PS2 software before, so there's no reason to believe it isn't true.

Some (not all) CCs & BBs will call and verify that the products you want are available at the store you want to PM with. If CC or BB is going to PM at all with this, it might be a good idea to go there first. But I remember doing this online before, so running out of stock shouldn't be a problem, if they do it that way again.

If anyone else needed any more confirmation of the sale going on.

Gotten from the cheapassgamer site, which was taken from someone at Gamefaqs.

Since there will be printed ads, if games start to sell out at TRU, would you be able to go to CC or BB and pricematch this deal?

I'd not bother going through the hassle. I ended up ordering mine through Amazon/TRU.

Checking...
My immediate reaction is to say that the Amazon link posted above is a different sale, but who knows. Maybe that's the online version of the sale (details were sketchier on the Amazon aspect), but the guy was pretty insistent that the in-store sale will be on ALL GCN software, without exception.

Has anyone tried adding three games to their cart? The discount doesn't automatically apply itself and I can't find a code anywhere. HELP!
Since this wasn't supposed to start 'till the weekend, maybe Amazon just has it up early without the codes so that people can't buy anything until the sale date becomes official? That seems odd though.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Here's an idea....now maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it make things easy if you just walk into TRU today, grab the slips for the games you want, and then go back to the store anytime on Sunday and hand your slips to the cashier? This way you're not fighting with everyone else on Sunday to get the 3 hottest games.

I don't think the TRU staff likes people grabbing slips and leaving without buying the game. Anyway, my local TRU has the actual games on display. It wouldn't be possible for someone to just grab the slips and hold onto them until Sun.

My store has all the game cover hanging on a wall with slips to take up to the cashier when you're done with your shopping. I didn't realize that all stores weren't set up this way.

Mine just has the games on the shelf, but it's in a special corner at the front of the store cordoned-off from the rest. It has its own registers and theft detectors so they can regulate who comes and who goes. The place is almost always completely empty, so I can't imagine a crowd there Sunday. When I went to pick up my GBASP when they started streeting early, I went by after work and I was the first person to ask for one. The manager tried to sell me AA batteries with it...hehe

My store hasn't used the slips in years. You have to buy the physical copy of the game.
Which is a good thing, since back in the PS1/N64 days you would wait as long as 30 minutes for the guy to go in the back and find your game.
