I've been playing for a few hours now and I love it. The course designs are great. Right now I'm on the Peach Invitational (I haven't even tried the other modes yet, I'm just unlocking the courses).

The only thing that sucks is how you can't freely move the camera around the courses, like you can in Hot Shots and EVERY other golf game. It doesn't make any sense and is really frustrating.

One thing is that Target and HV are going to hold contests for prizes. What I don't know is if they can tell if you bought the game there or not and if that disqualifies you.
The save option isn't there in contest mode. If you could save it then you'd play the first hole until you Eagled it (or whatever the best you could possibly do is) then save it, move to the next hole and play it until you mastered it. Without saving it you have to live with mistakes as you move through the course. There are many people who will invest much more time in mastering that course than I will in the contest. If I could save it I would have mastered the holes one at a time though and given it a shot.

The game is awesome by the way for anyone considering it. I played with my 4, 6, and 8 year old kids yesterday and they all loved it as well. I only beat my 8 year old by 1 stroke (but I did beat him).

It's got tons of variations as well. We played the coin collect game and had a great time (my 8 year old beat me at that). You're not aiming for the cup but to collect coins in that game. He stumbled across some silver coins in the rough and cleaned up. It's an awesome single of multi player game.

I agree with Matt925...the inability to move the camera around freely sucks. I don't feel like I have the control to set the shot up the way I want it. I thought this game would replace Hot Shots 3 for me but it didn't. It definitely has alot to offer compared to HS3 but it doesn't stand up to it when it comes to actual game play.

One thing that sucks is, HS3 doesn't offer the 'automatic' swing and when I play with my kids it's usually no fun cause they're all over the golf course and it takes an hour to get thru one hole lol. Mario Golf has this feature which is really cool cause they've actually held their own against me in a couple of game we played.....I just can't get past this camera control issue. argghhhhh.

the camera thing doesn't bother me. i don't really care whats happening outside of the hole i am playing. you can always look at the overhead view by pressing X if you ever need to see the whole hole at once anyway.

Can you move the camera to different places you want to hit to when you need to layup?

Based upon your guys talking about it, I went and picked it up at bestbuy, look forward to it. First new game for me since zelda, which I was quite happy with.

To elaborate more on huh?'s answer, you can only move the camera along the track of the planned trajectory of your shot. So if it is a 5 par hole, with a number of turns, you can only look at one leg of it up close. And you can't move it up or down, the camera automatically raises and lowers along the flight of your planned shot. And if there are hills or obstacles, it really hinders your already limited view. You can see the whole course by looking at the overhead view, in which the course is ridiculously small, taking up like 1/10 of the screen, and you can't zoom in or anything.

So there is no way to go along the whole course, moving up and down with the camera to see around obstacles and plan you upcoming shots.

It's not AS BAD as it sounds. After you follow your planned shot, you can slightly look to the left or right so you can plan your next one. And by moving all the way back, you can get an overhead view larger than the specific screen, and you can rotate it.

It's manageable, but it could be ALOT better, and in every other golf game it is, so I'm not sure what they were thinking here.

But this is an outstanding game. The depth of gameplay is surprisingly deep (and I had the N64 version and have played Hot Shots 3 and Tiger Woods 2003 many times). You have an incredible amount of control over your shots, the courses are great, and the mini-games are great. There are a series of challenges you have to pass to unlock new ones, sort of like getting licenses in Gran Turismo.

Awesome game, but it could've been better if they made a minor common sense adjustment.

Well I stopped yesterday hoping just to pick up the tournement flyer but they said they hadn't gotten them yet. Didn't expect the game until Friday at the earliest.

So are you gonna hook us up when you get it?

I have some questions... what do you do in the hole in the Lakitu cup with all the trees? That one is impossible

I haven't gotten the game yet (hopefully I'll have time tomorrow) but it sounds like the camera is just like the last game. It's obviously not perfect but you can easily work around it. You can move the camera right to left easily enough obviously. To move it farther or closer just change your club and the camera will focus on the new landing site. Granted it should be different but it's not the end of the world.

Man, what a waste of a $6 rental. After about 15mins, I couldnt bring myself to play this game anymore. Heres some things I found wrong right away:

-The controls are pretty lame, and that auto shot is stupid. Pressing A, then B in a millisecond to 'manually' shoot isn't fun, so all that leaves is skill-less 'auto'

-Making 3ft putts is next to impossible. No matter how fast I hit the A button 2x, it's always too hard and the ball pops out of the cup. Not that putting from far is easy anyways. The greens and Gfx are so blah that you can barely tell what you are aiming at, or which way the green runs.

-The Graphics are incredibley bland, it looks like a PSX game almost.

-The interface is freakin' huge and confusing...just all gets in the way.

-Pressing L-R to make your shots go further/shorter doesnt always work and almost every approach shot flies over the hole.

-And the WORST flaw of all. You can't skip watching the ball fly through the air, and all the stupid animations. I can literally play 2-3 18 hole rounds of Hot Shots in the time it took me to play almost 1 round in this game.

The list goes on and on, and this is from about 15 minutes of play. I will try a game with my girlfriend in a bit, but after that, I dunno. Thank god I have Hot Shots 3 if I need a golf fix.

PS: One thing I was worried about from this forum was the camera. I dunno what you think is bad with it, just move the C-Stick and the camera moves and tilts everywhere. Works perfectly fine.

Loving the game. Havn't really found any flaws except the inability to skip some animations. Other then that it's a blast.

9.2/10 (Based on only 3 hours play time)

Hit the button the second time when the power meter comes back down.

I don't think you're being fair here. All the reviews I've read said the graphics look good at least.

The interface is freakin' huge and confusing...just all gets in the way.
You need all that info to make a good shot. There's no way it couldn't be there.

That's good to hear. I had a feeling the camera problems were being overblown.

I am HOOKED. I didn't want to leave the house today and I had to twice. NOW I know why people call in sick to work to play some games (not that I'm about to do that, but I can see why now ). This game is AWESOME.

BTW when it's your turn if you don't do anything for a few minutes, funny messages appear on the screen

Played a round and 1/2 with the woman. We both hate it still Really sucks because I was looking foreward to some golfing action tonight. Guess I'll have to hope blockbuster will gimme a different game.

I've changed my view on the GFX now, its definitely like a slightly higher resolution N64 game. Exactly like the Zelda re-releases. Everything is blocky and jagged, nothing is round except the grassy hills on the course. The tree leaves etc are all 2d sprites. And aside from the colors of the characters, everything is green and brown.

People...definitely RENT this before buying. Hot Shots for PS2 is way better and 1/3 the price. Tiger Woods 2003 is also way better. I have never played a golf game this bad, honestly...and I have played almost all of them.

I played a quick 9 with my gf, and must say I'm pretty happy with it. It seems way to easy, but that's sorta nice, because I can get my gf to play where I couldn't with Tiger Woods etc..

The automatic shot is just to cheap, but that's the way to reel in people who can't time button presses very well.. My gf tied me playing this method.. Then again, she's a double tapper in monkey bowling too in monkey ball, and loves that

I think the graphics look great, same as mario party 4 in my opinion, and I thought those were good too. Discostu, are you playing with it in progressive mode, hooked up to a hdtv? On mine I'm more then happy with them.

The camera is a bit annoying, but it seems as though you don't have to aim as much as other golf games, because it's easier so seems to not be a huge problem.

Overall I'm liking the game. I recommend it, esp. to fans of the original.

Nope, I don't have an HDTV yet...but I can tell that by comparing it to every other GC/PS2/XBOX/DC/PSX/N64/etc game that the gfx are not next gen at all. Maybe if there were more level unlocked or something...i dunno?

Is there a guide to which club to use when?
