i think the L or R button enhancement to judge distance is pretty cool. for those that didn't read the impressions on planetgamecube posted above, you can hold the L or R button and it will help you with a distance meter in order to aid club selection (you don't have to use it). also, they mention that you can add slice and top spin to your shots in this version by double tapping the stroke button. that is similar to how mario tennis worked.

I knew what you meant but I figured if you wanted specific things out of the game it would be best to either rent it or talk to everyone here that gets it.

I do have a question about the game.
My wife prefers the Hot Shots Golf type of swing.
I prefer the Tiger Woods method.
I heard that this game has both but can I play a game with her and can we each pick the style of swing we want? I skimmed the review above and it made no mention of this.
Did I hear false info?

If you are talking manual or automatic, you can choose which each time you swing (so yes you and your wife can have different strokes). Manual is A B A/B and automatic is A A.

My store got this game today...

I never really played the N64 version for more then 10 minutes, so I wasn't even gonna pick this game up. However, I opened a copy, and played for 20 minutes, and fell in love! This game is just so friggin' awesome!

P.S. Peach look's hot in that skirt

Okay after Target was NO help at all with the extra course, I called Nintendo and talked to a really nice lady who replied the following: The Target and Hollywood Video games will each feature a special course with either Target or Hollywood Video-themed environments (respectively). The course can be obtained entering the special code that will be printed in the special manual. So the manual is different, and I tried to find out if the game disc itself is different so I hinted at it but she evaded the question After playing, you go to each website (depending on which version you bought) and enter your score. Apparently there may be prizes for the top scores.

I just talked to a HV rep and he said that he thinks all copies of the game will have the two courses and that he believes he'll be giving out the HV course passwords for free since they come in a flyer instead of the manual. He thinks it's not really an exclusive and that anyone can enter. If that is true, then it seems that the HV is a freebie but the Target one really is an exclusive since you have to have the code in the manual. He corroborated that there will be prizes for the top scores and that the contest will end August 31st.

Argh I'm even more on the fence now... don't know if I should go with CC or Target... and now there's HV in the mix.

NEWS !!!

Best Buy MIGHT be having this for $39.99 as a special sale tomorrow. I won't know until tomorrow 10am PST. With the $5 off coupon that's $35!! I figured if you get it at CCity for the $50 and $10 giftcard, it's the same as the $5 at BBuy since that's $10 off but you have to buy 2 games. Now that it might be $40 minus the $5 and you can get the two extra tournaments, it's a no-brainer I will post as soon as I get home from BBuy tomorrow.

Is this something new for Best Buy? I've never heard of them doing this before.. I wonder if they would price match, since I paid $45 using the $5 coupon today.

Here's what the Hollywood video thing really is...

If you rent Mario Golf from Hollywood video, you get a special code. The code unlocks a few courses to play. It then scrambles your score, which you would then post on the internet. If your a top scorer, you win prizes. Keep in mind if you rent Mario Golf, you also get a $5 off coupon to be used at Game Crazy's.

Gamer Gift Cards are in CD's cases usually near the video games.

Green CD cases where the video games are. You can see a $5 off coupon right through the CD case.

All you have to do is put like a buck on the card, on the back of the case is a $5 off 19.99+ up coupon.

This... is driving me... C-R-A-Z-Y

No go at Best Buy "try again tomorrow" - they no idea why anyone would say $39.99 ... sounds like the rep was talking out of his behind. ANd the door greeter said they were in the video game section already there and then when I said they weren't he was like ooppss

CCity - no idea when they are coming in.

HV - MIGHT come in Friday.

Why is Las Vegas like the last freaking city to get this?

I just picked it up at BB.
They had it for $49.99 but I had a $5 off Gamers Coupon plus
another BB coupon (they sent me in the mail) if you spend $50 or more on dvd's, cd's and games you get a $10 BB gift card.

They were having some problem with these coupons going through so they just took off another $10 !!

So I got Mario Golf for $34.99.

It's out at my Circuit City...$50 with a free $10 giftcard...paid for it with a $10 GC from a previous deal and $40 cash.

I'll try to put up some impressions later.

I picked it up at TRU (free due to TRU visa). Anyone get it at Target and know how the Bullseye course can be unlocked or if it's specific to the CD's shipped to Target.

I couldn't justify $50 vs. Free for just the one course (though I tried).

Thanks for pointing that out GatorDeb, the code worked perfectly. To enter it go to Contests | Password, it's a bit disappointing, I only played the first hole and it's pretty much the first hole of the 3rd tournament you can unlock. The yardage was different but that may have been due to pin location. Hopefully there will be new holes on that tournament but it may be just a selection of 18 holes from the existing tournaments in the game. I would be a bit upset if I had bought it from Target for just that reason and it wasn't really new holes.

BTW, you can't save when playing that tournament (for obvious reasons). I'll be interested to see the Holleywood video course as well. You have to enter that code every time you want to play the Bullseye course too, it doesn't save the fact that you entered it.

Why can't you save it?

One thing is that Target and HV are going to hold contests for prizes. What I don't know is if they can tell if you bought the game there or not and if that disqualifies you.
